Give the Devil His Due

- I said that this presentation at SkeptOKon was "in honor of the Dakhma of Angra Mainyu", an Ahrimanic (Satanic) church who's devotees actually believe in a literal devil. However, they're involved in one or two court cases of interest to secularists like myself. At the time of this presentation, I didn't realize I was actually praising the efforts of two separate groups. So there need be some clarification. The devil worshippers successfully sued for the right to hold their black mass in the Oklahoma City Civic Center. They also backed The Satanic Temple, (a non-theist group with no affiliation) in a separate suit over placement of a monument to the Ten Commandments. The Satanic Temple is trying to erect a statue of Baphomet right next to it. Who would have guessed that two different Satanic organizations would have challenged the state in the same courthouse at the same time?
It is also a timely presentation, considering that a religious zealot just decapitated an Oklahoma teen for "practicing witchcraft".

An atheist goes to hell. On his descent he thinks "Damn, looks like the religious were right after all...", but he didn't have much time to ponder because just as he hits rock bottom, a tall man arrives in a puff of smoke. "Hello, welcome to hell, me, I'm the devil, this is hell, your room isn't done yet but you can have your welcome drink at the bar where you get directions to the various activities, over there is the tennis court, back there the swimming pool, the spa is round that corner and if you look over there...", the man goes on and on about various anemities and activities and our atheist starts to ponder... hell doesn't seem that bad a place. "But", he interjects as he spots something, "what's behind that grey wall over there?"
"Oh that", the devil said, "doesn't concern you". The atheist sprints over to the wall and looks behind it. And goes pale as he sees various people crying and lamenting as they are pushed into pits of molten sulphur, with sub-devils pushing those trying to get out back into the torture pits with pitchforks, throwing glowing coals at the sufferers.
"Ah, I see! You show me all that and what I could have had, and THAT is waiting for me, right?" "Oh no", the devil says, "far from it".
"Then what is that?"
The devil shrugs. "Beats me. I don't really get it myself, but that's the corner for the Christians. They like it that way".
@Belagerungsmörser the Sheep I concur. A standing ovation is due.
Lol hahaha hahaha hahaha

Lmao!!!! Good one, have to remember and pass it on!
Ain't that the truth!
All you need to remember, is, that it wasn't Satan that drowned every living thing on the planet, apart from one single incesteous family, along with their pets.
@Treponema Pallidum The lucifer crap is in reference to a babylonian kind not a satan figure.
Likewise the word lucifer means morning star and is Latin.
But in the bible when they mention Lucifer it is not talking about a spirit but a human.
@Treponema Pallidum Infact in the amplified bible they actually give you the actual context of the passage and who it is talking about in Isaiah 14:12.
@@Raiden-the-Goat32 Lucifer was an angel of God, not a human, at least not in the Bible. This is common knowledge bro
@@Raiden-the-Goat32 Even if Lucifer was a human, he didn't drown the entire world except for the group that squeezed onto the ark
"All you need to remember, is, that it wasn't Satan that drowned every living thing on the planet, apart from one single incestuous family, along with their pets."
Yeah, you focus on that nonsense, nookie! Whatever you do, don't realize the fact that God is going to judge us, or that His wrath is severe, just because this entire globe is covered with from one to two miles deep of "SEDIMENTARY FLOOD LAYERS!"
Go ahead and pretend sedimentary aka flood debris is not really evidencing that there was a global flood!
Lot's of people ignore it, deny and defy it, pretend to know it's billions of years old, and that there aren't a couple dozen scientifically measurable and many times over measured facts and evidence that defy the eons of time flippantly asserted by all those who, like you, would rather believe the flood never happened, or that God had no right, or there's no evidence, or that there is evidence, but only for a local flood, etc...
Or you could thank God that He's bothering to warn you to flee from the coming judgment! And if you're smart you have plenty of warnings to heed, right here, right now, so that you aren't swept away as those in Noah's days, who were eating and drinking, working, playing, and getting married, right up to the day The Lord shut Noah and his family up in the Ark and the rain began falling... There were plenty of them standing outside looking right up at the salvation they rejected because they were just so sure they did not need it! It was right there, and though they may have ponded on its hull until their hands were bloodied, they were not let in. No amount of tears or I'm sorry's fashioned would ply the door open not even a crack for their infant's to pass through...
All I can say is stupidity is reserved for the "braver than I'll ever be!"
I just had an atheist divulge his own stupidity to me!
And although I thoroughly explained what, and why, I have no doubt he still doesn't see it!
He is so solely fixated on his disdain for God he refuses to acknowledge anything God has done as evidence that God has done it!
He also ignorantly proclaims the lie that all he's doing is "disbelieving God exists!" He is intentionally denying the fact that by denying The Creator he is by default embracing this universe was created by nothing, for no reason, mindlessly, and powerlessly over time and by chance. So, the genius atheist has replaced The Living God with a demonstrably impotent naturalistic formula of time+chance= everything in this universe and on this Earth, living or benign, that's ever been created, and for all time...

She didn't much like it herself, but she understood why I did. From that point on, she staunchly defended me and my friends from religious family members, friends, coworkers, and even the parents of the friends who played with me. I believe she changed some of their minds and let us continue to play a game that we loved. She often said: "I'd rather have them using their imaginations and playing a harmless game here, than hanging out at the mall."

@Gh0st Flow Yeah, pretty sure more Christians fall into that category than Satanists, or anybody else for that matter. This also depends on how the individual defines "destroy." You can verbally, emotionally, mentally, financially and physically destroy someone. Which is it? And when does self-defense come into it? Are you saying they're all going around killing people because they were cut in line at the store or some nonsense? Also, if they are Satanists, I'm rather sure the Christian concept of sin doesn't bother them, just as it doesn't bother Atheists or other "non-believers." That, however, doesn't mean they have no code of ethics, morals or what have you. They just don't require a priest in a church to tell them what those are.

But no matter what you will not change to many people's minds on their beliefs with questions they believe on faith not on fact they believe their faith is fact and that you're wrong...... No matter what questions you ask they don't have to have an answer to say you're wrong because in their minds you're wrong no matter what say .... Even if facts support what you say ........ @Stasis Field Religion is meant to be like a platform built by the visions of past sages for an easier analysis or integration of truths of creation and our psyche. People who do their religions right in my experience have been the most compassionate and intelligent bunch. I am very skeptical about your claims that it has helped you become more grounded and loving. You see I have also been a religious person and then dropped out for the reasons you mentioned and then realized I was living in a vaccum trying to think about everything by myself for the first time. How can you get closer to the truths about and beyond creation so that you find abundance and peace within and act precisely? Most atheists in fact after the excitement settles down realize they have no real, intimate purpose. You can check out the SHAPESHIFTER video from the "Amazing Atheist" channel to see what I mean. Most of the better atheists that I know are not really good role models for life, they judge a person based on superficial matters and so cannot really be helpful and their wisdom is apst nonexistent

In my experience, very few “do their religion right,” in that regard, because every individual puts their own spin on their holy books to accept the things they agree with, while disregarding the more barbaric and downright wicked stories of supposedly “all good, all loving deities.” I personally don’t care what people believe until they start using those beliefs to justify racism, bigotry, and violence against those they don’t understand. Sorry, wrong reply (to many posts) I was thinking more of Numbers et al, there.
How much of nature was Satan permitted to control?
"Eternal punishment" is really an oxymoron.
Let's say I steal a cookie from the cookie jar. I'm punished by being made to sit on the naughty step and receive a slap on the wrist for my transgression.
The whole point of such punishment is that I suffer undesirable consequences for having done the wrong thing and, therefore, will not wish to do the wrong thing again in any hurry, lest reap these undesirable consequences once more.
And, yes, we can note that this is essentially Pavlovian training. The slap on the wrist causes pain - but not serious pain, it temporarily smarts a bit - but this makes one mentally associate the transgression with the undesirable consequences of pain. Much like Pavlov's bell would make dogs salivate, as they associated it with being fed, after Pavlov trained them to make this association by ringing the bell before "feeding time". So that the next time you feel like transgressing, this association with the pain you will receive for being caught will make you recoil from committing it.
But here's the fundamental problem with the mainstream interpretation of Hell. It's eternal.
So there is no "next time". There is no second chance, no rehabilitation. Regret and remorse don't matter as this gig is eternal and you don't ever get out of this never-ending punishment.
Eternal punishment is not punishment. It's just sadism, pure and simple.
As the punishment achieves no end goal - how can it, as it's to go on forever? It's eternal Pavlovian training - so you will undoubtedly be well trained, but for what, as you never ever leave this training to ever go on to what you're being trained for?
So, God roasts all the evil doers forever. But what exactly does that achieve? Indeed, as it's infinite then, by definition, it cannot achieve anything, as it will never ever reach an end state.
In our fear of potentially suffering this punishment, we're not asking the really obvious question here.
Why bother? What does it achieve? These folks are not going to transgress anymore, as they've been condemned to eternal isolation in their own special realm.
Hell is life imprisonment. Well, "death imprisonment", I guess is more accurate, but you know what I mean. They've been banged up in the inescapable cage of Hell for the rest of all time.
That'll do it. That'll stop the wrong doers from inflicting their transgressions on anyone else, who're happily sunning it up in the paradisaical plains of Heaven. Job done.
So what's the point of all the agonising pain and suffering? It's nothing more than just sadism at this point, surely?
Punishments must be finite or, simply, it ain't punishment anymore. It just becomes eternal sadism - no purpose, no end goal, no second chance nor rehabilitation.
It's just a never-ending "power trip" for these inexplicably needy beings - whose insecurities and sadism know no bounds, as not even infinite worship - for God - nor inflicting infinite pain - for Satan - is ever good enough to satisfy them, as they demand this for all of the rest of eternity. And still it goes on.
Hell makes no sense.
And, by extension, how the Hades can Heaven be any better, when you must spend your "eternal bliss" in full and complete knowledge that the other realm exists and, down there, Uncle Billy is being needlessly roasted for all time?
Here's the fundamental logical problem - the very entry requirements we're told you need to get into Heaven, as being "a good person", means that there's no way you could suffer knowing that there's billions and billions of souls suffering below you. You're a good person, so there's no way you can just ignore and "tune out" the eternal suffering of infinite souls below you and not care. If you could easily do that, then you ain't so great of a "good person" and wouldn't be let in through the pearly gates by St.Peter for, bluntly, being such a miserable sociopathic cunt. You're clearly not a team player, if this is of no issue to you, so entry to "the giant family" would, indeed, seem like a major mistake for Heaven's social cohesion.
Here. I have 72 willing virgins for you. Now, as you spend the rest of eternity seeking sexual gratification - which is totally "mixed messages" on the Pavlovian front as well, as I was instructing you how this was all so terribly wrong when you were alive, but now you get rewarded with it! - just keep that mental image of Uncle Billy burning in eternal torment in your thoughts.
Ah, you see. Turns out Heaven is also eternal punishment too. Just of a far more insidious kind. If Hell is the physical torture, then Heaven is mental torture.
"Praise the Lord! (Uncle Billy's on fire) Praise the Lord! (Uncle Billy's screaming in agonising pain that'll never end) Praise the Lord! (Billions are suffering infinite pain)"
And those nagging thoughts never go away because, of course, Heaven and Hell are eternal. This never stops, this never ends, this never - by definition - achieves anything.
Eternal sadism. Some insidious never-ending Chinese Water Torture, tapping away at your soul - be that in Hell or in Heaven, it kind of doesn't matter, as both are working on eroding your soul into nothing, through a death of a thousand cuts. Well, death of an infinity of cuts, in Promethean style, as Hell's fire never actually consumes and Heaven also infinitely restores the boulder to the bottom of the hill again (okay, okay, I'm mixing my mythological metaphors, but you know what I mean).
God and Satan are apparently on the same side - and always have been - and, frankly, are just totally and utterly psychopathically insane.

He is only trying to show that we are a worse kind of creation than him, and he wants to prove to god that he was more fit to be king of this world than Adam and his progeny. According to Greek mythology, none of the gods really cared how much you believe in them. And that when you died your ultimate fate (Elysium, Asphodel, Tartarus) would be decided solely by how you lived your life, regardless of if you believe hard enough

As a person who is just in the past couple of years finding my way out of the bullshit of religion and accepting myself as an Atheist I appreciate these videos. Unless you have found your way out of the mess that is religion yourself you will never really understand how hard that struggle can be. Even though I could never believe that lie again it helps to watch these videos and bolster my strength and knowledge against the ignorance in the same way that Christians go to church to renew their faith. Of course, the major difference is that I new require no faith to be free any longer! A very sincere and heartfelt thank you to all of those out there fighting the good fight against ignorance.
The panic was such a thing, and it's still on-going, really - Just not as newsworthy anymore.
My aunt was taken by cancer when i was young. Very slow departure. Lost most her hair and most her mind. Yet still on her deathbed, she'd handed me her tarot deck, told me she wanted me to have it. I didnt even get to look at them before my parents threw them away. She spent her final days... Well, not quite here. Somewhere else in her head. She was kinda gone already. I dont know if that was a blessing though. I just remember her talking about the little men dancing on her pillow, coughing up blood as the family prayed around her because "she's possessed".
I dont really hold them like she did, but i did buy a deck like hers years later. Didnt know her very well but it felt right to have it.

There is one way to know if heaven is real and hell is real, you have to die, but after that. It is appointed unto man once to die then the judgment.
I think most people don't get that devil worshipping (irrespective of religion) is another form of theistic religion (although some groups may claim to be non-theistic) in itself and should be treated the same way as all religions are treated (by atheists). Although the definition of theist is someone who believes in god, I call devil worshippers theists because they believe the devil to be their god. Some may also make the mistake that if one is an atheist, then one must conform to the devil's ways, whatever those ways may be construed as by theists, which is just stupid. Beautiful lecture Aron, I never believed in any religion even when I was a kid in the 70's. I was always treated as strange because of it. But I still always had that fear in the back of my mind of the devil and hell and damnation. I know it doesn't seem to make sense, but when you hear it day after day from everyone and everywhere it still gets ingrained in your head of the possibility. I rebelled at the age of around 11 from religion when my family was going to the Mormon church and said I was never going back one day, and I was lucky my parents didn't make me go back. I only wish I would have escaped the fear of hell before I was in my late 40's. This lecture would have helped me see the light much more quickly. Thank you for sharing your voice with us and I hope this video helps many, many more people see the light so that they don't live with that fear as long as I did.

About Erishkigal. It's worth mentioning that depending on which tradition you are following Erishkigal is either the sister or an alternative version of Inanna, also called Ishtar. Inanna was the goddes of fertility and life. She was also the patron goddes of the city of Uruk. Inanna was, again depending on the tradition you are following, the daughter or the wive of the god of water and wisdom Enki. After besting enki at a drinking game she tricks him into giving her the twelve "me" powers which essentially gave her absolute power over everything making her one of the first all-powerful gods. By the way, i highly recommend you to read those songs, they are beautiful. Back to the point, enki is the sumerian main deity and also a predecessor to the jewish god Yehova.

@@rudyhill9286 -- Have you read the bible? Because there are Many. But if you are like most BuyBull believers, let's be honest, you will make Excuse after Excuse for those verses. Most buybull believers will actually justify Child Abuse to defend their beliefs.
So I ask you first -- “Is there any amount of evidence that could shake your faith and make you question your beliefs?”
If no, then what would be the point in showing you actual verses in the buybull of the EVIL that supposed "god" is responsible for?
@@rudyhill9286 Exodus 21:7, gives men rules to sell their daughters into slavery. I would call that child abuse at the very least. In this day and age, that would consist of a whole laundry list of charges brought up against someone who did that to their daughter. That isn't even relevant to the quote though. Sagan was referring to the believers of these religions abusing their children. It happens all of the time. There were fundamental Christians who killed their adopted child not even half a mile from my childhood home a few years back. The Bible is still being used to justify child abuse to this day. Now one couldn't say that religion was the primary cause of these abuses, because back then nearly everyone identified with one of the major religions, but the abusers were religious none-the-less.

As a child, Satan was also the first thing I recall questioning. I heard the story of Job, and I said to my parents, "What if everything bad that happens is just the devil working with God to test us?" And they said, "No, you've misinterpreted the story, that was a one time thing." But that was, to me, a workable solution to this big conundrum about why God allows evil to exist, why he doesn't just smash Satan into bits right now.

War, strife a bloodshed have been happening since long before the first coming. As a method of exposing Satan, it's clear that waiting for bad things to make evil self-evident is not viable. And if one angel revolution wasn't bad enough, saying that they're going to keep rebelling against God doesn't grant much confidence in him as a leader.

I definitely need to read up on all these pre-bible myths and religious texts, I'm especially interested in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
Personally I think the origins of these religious characters are more interesting than the characters themselves, especially if you're trying to follow the evolution and adaptations of them into new religions. Its also interesting to see the different traits and features of them being transplanted into new religions and myths, especially those that predate judeo-christian religions.

If you want a brief summary of Gilgamesh, it's basically "Superpowerful king-guy has shagged too many wives, so the husbands pray to some deity to get rid of him and some deity gives him a buddy and they have zany antics."

Aron, You sir are the most influential historical figure of the 21st century.
There are 7 deadly sins, if I remember correctly. How many is God guilty of? 😁
All of them:
Pride - He's so full of himself he has to make a bunch of things and then make one thing better than the rest that are in his image.
Greed - God wants the love and fear of everyone alive and punishes them for not giving it to him for eternity.
Wrath - Punishing people for eternity for simply not believing in him and summoning a global flood to kill all things because he was mad.
Envy - God only wants your love and fear and doesn't want other Gods to have it.
Lust - He must be worshipped and desires your worship, or like before, burn forever. He also got some chick pregnant to make a random son just to die.
Gluttony - Kind of a repeat, which a lot of these. God wants all the worship and can't get enough of it. Want, want, and never gives until your dead, and then maybe you get something.
Sloth - Essentially being a lazy twat. God doesn't do anything anymore. He's not making new life for us or coming down to explain stuff. Lazy bum.

The Church of Satan has renounced violence. It would be nice if christianity did the same. No it does not deserve to be capitalized.
Michael Dziengel Why does it not deserve to be capitalized? Christianity is a proper noun, and should be capitalized according to the rules of the English language. It's not about respect. Would you still not capitalize it if a sentence started with the word? For example, my second sentence. It would just look weird to have the first word of my sentence in lower case.
I'm an Atheist, by the way, so I'm not coming at this from a Christian bias. There's just no sense in breaking the rules of a language simply because you don't respect a certain group of people.
keybladesrus Why have you capitalised "atheist"? It isn't a proper noun.
(I'm with Michael Dziengel btw, those nutjob omniscient-wizard-in-the-sky cultists don't deserve even implicit linguistic respect, lol)
bnipmnaa Huh. I had often seen it written that way, but I just looked it up, and you're right. Atheist is only capitalized at the beginning of a sentence. Now that I know, I'll write it correctly in the future. That's because I respect the English language, and how I feel about any particular group has nothing to do with that. Christianity is a proper noun, so it gets capitalized.
If you don't want to, then fine. Just know that you're incorrect.

Nathan Thompson The interesting question is whether religion brings ingnorance or ignorance brings religion.
Bit of a "chicken or the egg" dilemma there.
I don't think the "chicken and the egg" analogy works for this question.
