When we were living in Montana, we had to deal with these kind of situations where wild animals became to comfortable around people. The sound of gunfire has always been a good stand by when it came to protection at the camp. We never did have any direct confrontations with animals in the 20 years that we lived there. Grizzly Bear, Moose, Mountain Lion, Bobcat, and Black Bear were not normally a threat unless these animals had young. Thanks for sharing your story FSB. :)

Good story and thanks for sharing it with us. It shows being prepared can make it a much safer outcome.

That is why we should be allowed to carry, to defend our life. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Just found your channel from Bushcraft Bartens. We have coyotes here in Yellowknife, but outside town, it's bears and wolves. Up here I carry a shotgun for predators. Excited to see more of your videos. Take care.

I agree with you fully, Deep bush or deep woods is their territory and it alway's have been, my most dangerous encounters have been in the deep thick areas that wildlife feels safe in. It is their home and like us they have a tendency to protect their home (especially when young are involved). My guess to your situation and it's only a guess is that the spot picked was semi close to their den as normally coys won't move in on ( large groups) of people with a fire going. Now if your close to their den they will not care as much and will move in.

I think that was the case also, as we had gone back to that area later, and you could always hear them not far away, but never had them come back in again...maybe the remembered the loud bang....
