- There are several reasons bettas might lay on the bottom of a tank, some are normal and good while others are an indicator that a betta fish is sick or stressed. One of the most common reasons for a betta laying on the bottom of the tank is that it is sleeping.

I noticed my betta staying at the bottom recently. For days he didn't move much, other than come up for air. I realized his heater quit working and the tank temp dropped to 62° 🥶. I got a spare heater in the tank and he's back to his active self. I'm so glad he survived it.
Bettas are can be really tough sometimes. I'm glad you were able to find the source of the issue and fix it. I'm sure he really appreciates it.

My betta loves his spider wood cave and I often catch his sitting on the gravel beneath it- then he will quickly swim out as if to say “BOO!”

Thanks for bringing this topic up! Whenever I ask a fish aquarium store employee why Bettas behave this way, often the standard reply is that they're lethargic and might be diseased (though it sounds reasonable given the conditions they were in)
Another great video to get some really important info. Also if you create some more merchandise (I like hoodies but idk what’s most popular) I think it’ll help. Incorporate more betta into I think, just my thoughts though

Fintastic video! This is one of those random fish behaviours we all see, but often dismiss. Like, 'glass surfing', you see your fish doing it, but you're not sure if it's normal or not. Or, 'gulping air', sure fish do it from time to time, but what if they do it all the time? Reading fish behaviour can be tough to decipher.

My betta literally just died right before you posted this video. I actually found your channel while trying to figure out what was wrong with her. I tried several different treatments, took tests repeatedly but still couldn’t figure it out.
My fish is sick right now too I’m trying my best but I don’t know if she’s gonna make it
Whenever I get nervous about something my bettas do... temp check, quick water test and (even if that comes out clean) emergency water change. I am not experienced enough to find out exactly what's wrong in a short timeframe, and this usually gives me some more time to research and locate the problem.
Hello these last few days my fish stays under the water and doesn't eat food, breathes above the water and falls back down! but doesn't move help me????

One of mine doesn't sit still - he's non stop swimming I can only imagine he sleeps at night. The other one is a rose tail type and he often stares into that 5th dimension doing nothing

My boys never rest on the bottom. They all have betta logs so sleep in those or their betta leaves close to the water surface. Great informative video. Thank you👍
Betta logs are cool, I think bettas are most happy restign at the top.
Mine slept in his once and now he sleeps under a branch at the bottom. He’s weird lol 😂 betta logs are awesome though, he likes to swim through them
@@lotuslady9821 Haha they are so individual love bettas so much. They each have their own little quirks. You get such entertainment from them
@@alisonnicholson Sparkles is definitely hilarious to watch. He likes to think he can take on my cats. They like to sit on the floor and watch him while they sun bath. He on the other hand tries his hardest to get to them through his tank.

My Betta passed away yesterday. I can't figure out if it was something I did, or if it was a fluke. 3 days ago I noticed my Betta wasn't as active, and wasn't eating. I check my water multiple times. Amonia and nitrite we're both 0, and my nitrates we're very low. The 10 gallon tank stays a consistent 81-82 degrees. He was only in the tank with two nerite snails so he didn't have to compete for food. There was no sign of anything wrong with him, and just one day he was extremely lethargic and not eating, and 2 days later he died. I'm extremely upset, but also very confused. I had him for 4 months, so I don't think it was old age. I know that sometimes things happen that we don't see coming, but I'm so confused about this. Has this ever happened to anyone as well?

Mine does this every so often when she is constipated. I try not to overfeed, but often she'll lay eggs and eat them all and stuff her face.

My fish is white but shiny but my fish is just laying there if its not interrupted he would stay there all day all night for a long time but also i dont know if its just that I changed his tank yesterday since its a new tank and not a 1 gallon is now a 3 gallon
I have one betta thats laying on bottom with her head towards the marbles. Fins up and down. And then id check on her every so often finding her in a different spot entirely. Checked temp. Got the heater on. Trying to get tank warmed up. So i dont loose her lets see what happens

hey i have a question, i just got my betta for my 10 gallon and she was fine for 2 days and then she stopped eating today and she is resting at the bottom of my tank but my temp is fine and she is not as active i dont know what happened can you help me?

ok that helps a bit thank you, mine does like to stay in corneres and even wedge between the glass/floor and the water filter i got and it worried me, also was worried my filter was bugging them too cuz it for some reason loosens and then vibrates loud against the tank and it drives me nuts at night and i was concerned that it was bugging the betta too >< im just small panic of my fishs wellbeing

When I found out they don't got eyelids I put so many little caves into my baby's tank😅
I changed the water in my aquarium today and i put half of my substrate with half of new water. So now he is laying at the bottom. Is this a bad thing?
What type of substrate did you add?

Same !! I noticed mine doing that yesterday. If he moves, he will stop and his front body will float up and the rest downside and his fins just stay in place without moving. I don't know what to do
