This is the dirtier years, the solo and Revolution years when the man from MN was interested in sex, funk, and spirituality. I like the NPG and symbol years but P was at his most passionate and fiery in early solo and Revolution years.
Prince wrote this song as he did with all songs credited to him. If the band contributed a note or wording, and they were on his payroll -- that is called "work for hire" and it's legally Prince's.
Dez wasn't even in the picture no one was but prince he wrote ,produced and played every instrument sang all the background and pieced it all together in the studio by himself. He was a musical genius.
@@jamesnewby6878 - Actually, James, that is not true! Prince’s second LP named “Prince”, which included the hit single, “I wanna be your lover”, Dez was in his band on guitar. He would remain in his band on guitar until “Purple Rain”, and was replaced by Wendy. In the movie PR, Dez had formed his own band and was featured in the movie. He would not return to Prince’s band at all, in the rest of Prince’s career. Where Prince played every instrument, arranged every song, composed every song and produced himself was on his very first LP entitled, “For You”. If you have never heard it, I suggest that you do because it was excellent. I knew then that he was a musical genius. It is true that Prince usually wrote ALL of his material. However, he had to have an established band to tour, which he did. Trust me on this info because I am, indeed, Prince’s biggest fan. Nobody loved him as much as I did! Don’t you just miss him? I sure do! I adored him! Peace to you.
@@jamesnewby6878 - Well, I don’t doubt what you have commented! As I said, Prince usually wrote ALL own material. However, he had to relay his achievement to a band to take it on the road. He was indeed remarkable. So, we are in agreement. I get you and you get me. Peace.

I wonder if Dez got paid for writing this.
I’ve never heard any stories about Dez writing this song before.
