Hi dude. Awesome review. I started with the longboard in 2019 (at 49 years old) and the deck with drop through was very practical for me to learn to push, have balance and stability on the deck. I use both decks only for cruising (top mount and drop trough). For easier cruising, I use drop through. to work more thrust and flex the knee more, I use the top mount. Thanks for all your reviews. Regards from Argentina
That’s awesome dude! Just goes to show you age is just a number! I just started longboarding this year after not skating for more than a decade lol, not that I was even a good skater before lol
This is an inspirational comment!! I'm 50 and just now starting to skateboard with my 15 year old son. I bought a Landyachtz Drop Cat 38 and so far it's been alot of fun!! Cheers!! 🤙
One huge thing you missed is how much better a low deck is for pushing and footbraking. You can push faster and longer when you don't have to squat down so far with your leg that's on the board, and it's easier to maintain stability and balance footbraking. The carving thing is true but I think a little misleading. Yes you have more leverage on a topmount, it's a quicker and more aggressive feeling turn. You can get plenty of turn out of dropped boards too though if you set your trucks up right. I personally don't think I'm missing anything on a dropped board turning wise, and I really like the stability and easier, faster pushing. The foot positions you can get with topmounts are nice though, you get the whole surface of the board to play with. I know a lot of really good downhill riders prefer them too.
Yes however the reason why I prefer topmounts is that they are sooo much better for pumping. I have a Loaded Vanguard and a Dervish Sama and the Vanguard just pumps on god level.
One of the problems I have with my drop-through board is when I'm kicking off aggressively sometimes my back foot touches the back wheel because it is exposed. It's easy to fix, but for a beginner it's something to keep in mind. Well this has never been a huge problem I can imagine the worst case scenario is that you stop the board and fall forward because your foot stops one of the back wheels.
I knew what I wanted to do when I started longboarding for real. I've been on and off skateboarding for years but decided to get serious. I didn't know buying a drop through deck was for me when I did get it. But I was lucky I chose the right board for my style: Edit: I did break my wrist and forearm within a month of getting my longboard, but somehow that accident made me even more confident in my abilities 🤣.
I’m 26 and my dad’s 57. He gets around super good and we just started longboarding together. As a newcomer, I’d advise a drop through for your first purchase. Being low to the ground does wonders for your balance. Once your balance is out the way the practice is easy for everything else
Ive just bought a pintail as Im utterly sick of my local area and my skateboard which I love to bits just can't handle the roads around me. I can't wait!!!
I bought a flexible pintail and put sidewinder 2’s on it and it’s so easy to slide crouched or standing. I have another with the same setup and just bought my first drop thru. Stuck the same trucks on it and squared wheels, the ride is so smooth and enjoyable
Axis 40 is a dropthrough that does everything extreme speed, awesome carving, and all-around perfect. Also your hands down not everyone agrees top mount is better to each their own. I can do everything you can do on top down on a drop through❤
I'm new to longboarding and in the process of deciding what to buy. I like the idea of the stability of a drop through, and am looking to do carving and eventually downhill once I get better at riding it. What complete board or board and seperate hardware would you suggest I buy? Thanks!
Yes, but it’s not necessarily so black and white either. Most boards favor one of those, but you can still find boards with a pretty good balance between the two
are long boards able to go longer distances on a flat surface road vs the distance of a cruiser board?.. I usually gotta keep pushing every 2 secs on my cruiser
if you dont already you should try snowboarding man. that carving cruising feeling you get longboarding is also there when snowboarding. nothing beats great mountain conditions and powder, its like carving on clouds.
You just helped a brazilian haha! I couldn't find this type of content in portuguese, talking about the specifics of the Top Mount and Drop Through. This was really useful! Thank you!
I actually have both from my experience it was easier to learn slide on drop through but as soon i was going high speed i was more stable on my top mount. I would recommend top mount for downhill but for crusing/slide def drop through
It might sound dumb, but it scares me to mount into a longboard (idk, I'm scared of falling, and my ballance is pretty bad), would you recommend these as a beginner in order to reinforce balance and learn how to ride?
If the drop through board has tails that let you pop the board then it’s possible, though a kick flip would probably be very difficult on that kind of board
Great vid... Going to order my 1st ever type of board with wheels... Going with the zflex shadow lurker drop thru longboard... Your opinion of this board?
Not necessarily. If your drop through has raised tails you shouldn’t have a problem. Even with flat tails you could still do those things. I think the best board for you would maybe be a dancer board though? Those are top mount, and the one I have is amazing at freestyle!
@@OgdenSikel ok but there is this longboard that I want it’s a drop through freestyle and it’s budget so I want to get it can I go fast on a freestyle and what’s the difference between cruising and freestyle?
I mean, the loaded tan tien is my favorite drop through ever, but it’s pretty pricey. You could check out some rayne boards also they’re pretty high quality
Nope! Here’s a good example: dancing boards. They are top mount because they can have extra surface area for better dancing tricks. Or pin tail boards, which are made for speedy cruising
Drop throughs are more versatile and can be good at a lot of things. Most boards made specifically for downhill are top mount and usually a little shorter than other boards to make them easier for sliding and such.
