A traditional summertime favourite in Hong Kong, sugar cane juice is increasingly hard to find in the city because of limited sugar cane supply. Among the few remaining local shops selling sugar cane juice is Kung Lee, which has been around for 70 years. The store uses traditional methods to peel, steam and press the sugar cane with an antique juicer. Ben Tsui, who’s a fourth-generation owner, has been reinventing the business with new products to attract new customers.

Awesome! In countries like Pakistan and India sugar cane has been an important commodity for centuries, the juice that street vendors make is extracted in its purest form using mechanical pressers!
India and Pakistan is part of CHINA to destroy USA and JAPAN

Yep that is true
In Malaysia, only during fasting month like now do we get to drink this. After that hard to find
Turning the sugarcanes into sweets and draught beer to preserve the shelf life. Brilliant move.

“But my dad injured his hand and they needed extra help.” Looking at the machine that he was using as he said that, I’m afraid to ask how his dad’s hand got injured 😲
Probably his hand went though inside that rolling tube🤭
That machine came after his dad was injured
@@lukasloh2509 oops welp i guess some vampire would be interested in it🧛🏻♂️
I got a patient that got her hand crushed by the machine when I was still an intern. It was her dominant hand. She was due to get married just months after the incident happened. She got so depressed as she thought her fiance would leave her after that & requested me to accompany her to the operation theater. I still remember holding her hands when we pushed her to the OT. She recovered but her hand was deformed. We'd met again after 5 years. She recognized me immediately & called out for me while crying. It seems like she indeed got married to her fiance & is very happy. Since that case, I have a little bit of phobia with the sugar cane machine.
This is the new one. It's still way saferthan the one machine people use to juice sugar cane back then
We have this at every street corner in Mumbai. And I am not exaggerating.
India.
Yes, ganna juice 💛🤤
I’m from Brazil and here we have many shops that do fresh sugarcanejuice as well.
Here in Brazil is easy to find sugar cane juice. We drink like this or with a little bit of lemon juice or pineapple juice.
Same here in indonesia sometimes we add with dried plum too
Malaysia has same climate as Brazil, so it was easy to find sugar cane juice.
Guarapa time
They are using bad quality sugar cane.lol
WE LOVE PASTEL WITH THAT HOLY DEAR
I am from India and when I was doing my bachelors I used to drink so much sugarcane juice because I was studying in a really hot and humid town. But the sellers there would use ice made from unhygienic water and I got stomach infection from it. But do I regret drinking that sweet sweet nectar after cycling from class on hot summers? NEVER!!

i was happy to find out that Asia is big on it too.

In India we have many sugar cane juice stalls. So sweet and delicious.

I would love to try that one day!
It’s quite common in se asia
I'm gonna go there later.

Is this drink healthy?
In Bangladesh during summer, our streets are full of little carts selling sugar cane juice.. It's really refreshing. We get the purest, non chemical juice thanks to the vendors
Thank you for supporting a local shop!
Sugar cane juice is extremely common in Singapore though, it is sold in all hawker centres and some coffee shops
By the way, we Singaporeans like to add Sour Plums into sugar cane juice too in addition to Lime
Biasanya tukang tebu mangkal dimana gaes?
As a Chinese, sugarcane is to die for

I love hongkong people, kind and very friendly.
I love sugar cane juice! Where is this shop located in HK? I will surely visit!
How much per cup in HK? It is a common drink in Singapore but it's price has been increasing over the years.
We also have that here in the philippines. The oldest one is in ongpin st., been there since i was a kid. Am 56 years old now. Don't know how long it have been in business.
This shop is wonderful. The herbal jelly they make is top notch. My absolute favourite
Nice!! Hong Kong has a lot of traditional food that are commonly seen in SG/MY too. Yummy esp. Wanton mee.
Happy to see a family business started in 1948 still standing today and being operated by the new generation.
here in india too sugarcane is a really important crop and in summers u can easily find the vendors selling sugarcane juice
funfact: sugar was first invented in ancient india and the word sugar is derived from the sanskrit word sharkara
Doesn't surprise me, India along with China, Near / Middle East and Egypt are the ancient civilisations.
I would drink this as a kid in Puerto Rico. Absolutely loved it.
There’s a lot of people selling sugar cane juice in Indonesia
Kindergarteners to kids to university students to getting married and having kids..

Is sugar cane juice just sweet , I have not not tried sorry if I'm stupidly wrong
I've been here, their sugar cane juice tastes great, highly recommend!
Real funny! All sugar cane taste the same. Unless some shop added water, or mix more sugar to save the cost
Always proud of hardworking ppl. Keep it up.

In Australia, it's called cold pressed and 1 cup sells for $8 AUD..

One of the best advice I would like to suggest is to add some Himalayan Pink Salt to enhance the flavour of juice.😊😊😊
Add mint and black salt taste gets 1000x better. I rarely drink it though but everyone i know loves it

Here in Malaysia at least, you can literally just find one on the side of the road
Sugar cane juice can be found everywhere in Malaysia, at least in Penang. It's not cooked, but pressed raw. We don't add anything to it. I know in Vietnam they add lime, but not usually in Malaysia, although I've seen some.
Wonder how does it taste with a lil bit of lime juice. Gonna find and try one tomorrow for iftar
Should add some calamansi lime in it. Give more dimension to the drink.
In msia, this drink can be found at pasr malam. Rm5 per jug.
One of the best drinks I've ever taste. In my country you can get a glass for a quarter or penny + snacks.
Wow its widely available in India and i luv it.
The most delicious juice ever!
In india you can find sugar cane juice very very easily ,
Actually it's my favourite but because of covid I didn't have it from last two years now

Sugarcane juice is every southeast favorite summer drink..
Congratulations to Hong Kong for the sugarcane drink. In Malaysia we have a lot of this, its a very tasty drink, better than coke

I am here buddy!
Now that's an honest living
my backyard used to have sugarcane.. reminds me of my childhood when my dad would chop the canes down and we chop it up to smaller sizes to chew on
In Malaysia 🇲🇾 a lot sugar cane, during afternoon time
Sugar canne juice is also very common in Brazil. Great video.
Much respect
I would buy a box full of it was sold here in USA 😀 love sugar cane
Ya. U can find this almost everywhere. Theres also some in Latin America and Caribbeans.
Love sugar cane. Its still easy to find here in Indonesia.
I sold sugar cane juice during ramadhan month only coz we planted ourselves n the stock just enough for one month only.. making sugar cane juice are quite delicate coz once you wash the sugar cane you need to dried it off completely so it won't turn sour faster but can't wash too early before process... N it need to keep in refrigerator soon as possible to keep it sweetness.. ( ˊᵕˋ )
Learned that there are some juice vendors who add sugar in the juice (a tube containing sugar water is injected and mixed in as the sugar cane is pressed making it not visible to customers.). Hope this store sells authentically pressed juice!
In Zimbabwe we chew the sugar cane and get the juice directly in our mouths freshly pressed but this is a hassle free method 😁
That's really cool!
Surprise surprise. Everyone does that
Same in the philippines.
Might have put it on my bucket list before the CCP stamped out HK’s vitality and distinctiveness.
Never been to hong Kong I wish to come there and but some of that
Come to Vietnam and you can find it everywhere in summertime 👌👌
Why nobody complain about the shop owner making a juice wihout wearing gloves? I see it trending on videos of indian food hawkers
For the HK based chinese here can you suggest to them to start selling carbonized sugarcane juice? That would really help them out
