nah, Tung Po(electric street wet market) is still great. the people making the food is more important than eating car exhaust. and TBH, Sing Heung Yuen's milk tea isn't as good as what they used to make, and Ho Wah (the old side) on Mallory st is still better, and what's wrong with being indoors at Sun Heung Yuen(Kwelin street near Ap Liu street) for their eggs and corned beef sammies? but i do miss the old DPD at Ngau Tau Kok estates. it's good that they've congregated into the wet markets' restaurant levels. Electric Rd Wet Market(Claypot Indian), Java Rd. Wet Market(Tung Po), Bowrington St. Wet Market(Cart noodle place)... lots of good places to choose from... there's plenty of "vibes" at the pretentious outdoor places along the stone slabs at Nojo ramen or sit on the outdoor roof patio at Simply Thai in CWB. i'd rather not smell the BO mixed with overuse of deodorant while i eat crab curry or the drunk vomit smells during summer heat while slurping ramen.
Absolutely ! Right now your heart warms up. But if you keep eating those junks, your blood test index soars and diabetes will cripple you the rest of your life, if not shortening it.
Love these! Keep them coming! Hong Kong was where I was born in 1969!!!! Immigrated to the US in 1974. Love watching these videos. On my bucket list to visit HK. Unfortunately I’ve never been back but my parents have to visit my aunts & uncle. ❤ This American appreciates where I came from! :)
Hong Kong is an incredible place to visit and the Hong Kong Travel Guide by Maria Denney made our trip even more enjoyable!😊😊 The guide is well-researched and provides a wealth of information about the city's top attractions as well as some hidden gems that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. I highly recommend it!
This video brings back such nostalgia. I miss eating at the DPD's during the late 80s and early 90s, where the DPD staff would wash their dishes on the side of the streets. and then use them after to serve up their next customers. Definitely miss the golden days of Hong Kong.
Haha, I just came back from Dai Pai Dong in Sham Shui Po tonight. On taste, it embarrasses some fancy restaurants 😋 so much wok hei!!! Uncle Roger would approve!
I love Tai Pai Dong literally government kill the tradtional Street food culture for people and tourists all loved. Moving to hawkers center don't feel the same like old days. Absolutely if I am the government, I will revive the food street culture and allocate many areas for it.
HK-style Typhoon Shelter fried squid, Sweet + Sour Pork w Candied Floss - not only the appearance + most likely the wok hei flavored goodness, but also the names of the dishes are uber creative + immensely aesthetic. Hong Kong has the BEST food in all of China - Cantonese Food rules !!!
Not sure. Never had a chance to visit and so I’m expressing an opinion. What I’ve seen, being outside is part of the ambiance or atmosphere of a Dai Pai Dong…sort of like the sidewalk tables at cafes around the world. If it were moved inside, as some have been, I think the vibe changes. Don’t know if anything is lost. My personal preference would be to sit outside and watch the neighborhood while I eat instead of being inside. Thanks for making and sharing great videos like this!
Hong Kong, very strong.. survived attacks from the Transformers, Godzilla vs King Kong, and even internal riots.. can hit old uncle to death.. burnt shops, assault police, destroy public amenities.. and pretended nothing had happened..in 2023. Very strong people.. Wow..
I've been visiting HK since I was a young boy starting 1979 and my relatives always brought me to the non frou frou places to eat. Well, they did a few times, but I always preferred the mid end ones. I remember we once had dinner at a two Michelin starred one and I said thank you for the dinner, but next time bring me to the other dai pai dongs that I have not tried. I Never liked the fancy ones as they do not represent HK cusine for me at all. Impress me with flavors. Not with how much you can spend.
@@blurryface6261 With their oh so tiny stalls, SG hawker centre's Chinese foods lacks Wok Hei, I hv nothing to add. Besides, best chefs and cooks hv left HK? Quit BS lah.
@@426dfv They don't need a big stall because they only specialise in a few dishes. Since you say no wok hei, I feel sad for you that you went to the wrong stalls. The best chefs have already left. It is a well known fact that the best Cantonese food is found outside of HK.
@@blurryface6261 kept saying i went to the wrong place. Fact is, hawker centre is not dpd. Out of all hawker centres i went, they all lacks wok hei. Plus ppl cant even order/buy beer after 10:30pm. So dull...
i really hate to hear when people say it is Hong Kong spirit.... IT IS NOT. Those cooks do not want to cook for you people. They cook for money and it is very hard work! There is not one second those service peopel or chefs think that they are happy to cook for you to stand for HK spririt.

No I don't like macaroni in tomato soup. Best noodle for tomato soup is mung bean glass noodle with slices celery or parsley and potted fried noodles (yee mee) don't know hk market have or not, abundance in Malaysia.
I went to Hong Kong a few years ago and was pretty disappointed by the quality of the cooking. Frankly there is just as good Hong Kong style restaurants in San Gabriel Valley/Bay Area California, Vancouver CA and New York City.

If a dai pai dong has been moved indoors, do you think it has lost its vibe🤔?
Most definitely
No lose vibe. Still yummy and deeeeeliciousy.

I don't believe so, if the food is still the same and the atmosphere inside is the same; you just have a warmer experience.
Yes. The orderly and standardise units kill the passion of only one
As a Hong Konger living overseas, this warms my heart💗

Dai pai ding is unique for hong kong, everytime i go back to HK, I go to one to eat for sure. Its childhood memory as well.
It's as good as or even better than a lot of TV productions, totally professional, informational and entertaining

As someone from Shanghai and currently living in the UK, I really wish they can bring this culture to the streets of London
you can but i bet we all want someone to do it. the chinese community can definitely get around and get to do that on every weekends and holidays.

Hong Kong should learn from Singapore's success.
Build a hawker centre to house these Da Pai Dong's, everyone wins.
too bad SG's hawker centre doesn't taste as good as HKs.

If you are speaking Cantonese, the correct phonetic spelling is tai pai tong. The soft "d" is pretentious anglicised /mandarin spelling
