Faerie Tale Theatre 27: The Dancing Princesses

You'd be surprised how many people don't know the story of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses". I couldn't find a decent version of the story except for this one, which only features half the number of princesses. Still, it keeps the basic plot and formula, it just works with some limited means- and it works well.
PLOT: An overprotective, widowed king to six daughters is furious when he learns that their dancing slippers are destroyed every night, and perplexed trying to determine how that can be when the girls are locked in their guarded room every night. So the king decrees whoever solves the shoe mystery can marry one of his daughters. One contender is a traveling soldier who is aided by a witch. The witch gives him an invisibility cloak and a warning and he sets off to solve the mystery of the dancing princesses.
This was the very last episode of the series and stars Lesley Ann Warren (Miss Scarlett from Clue) as the eldest princess, Robocop Peter Weller as the soldier, Roy Dotrice as the king, Poltergeist's Zelda Rubinstein as the witch, and Shirley MacLaine's daughter Sachi Parker as the youngest princess.

I loved this one. According to Wikipedia, this is the closest version to the original in everything except for the number of princesses and the deaths of the princes who fail to figure out the secret.

The original version also had three forests that the Princesses would pass through to get to the hidden kingdom. One was a silver forest; the second was gold; and the last was covered with diamonds.
