Wow, that Northern Kentucky (NK) team can really play. Good job, NK. Even though you lost, you showed a lot of hustle and determination.
This what makes the tournament special. You gotta come out and ball every game, no matter who youre facing.

Totally agree I am from Youngstown Ohio area and I really thought YSU was going to be playing in that game especially when they beat the Norse in February pretty bad I was at that game. Props to Northern Kentucky showing up big in the conference tournament and getting the big. They would have been even better if Adrian Nelson hadn't transferred to YSU.
Houston dodged a bullet. them boys on northern Kentucky were chucking threes from half court if only like 3 of those actually went in. LOL
They shoot above 35% from 3 so the fact that they shot 35 threes makes me absolutely *certain* that was the entire plan. Some of those in-and-outs were brutal.
@@verde7595 Also, the majority of those shots were pretty good looks, it just wasn’t their night unfortunately. This game almost reminds me of the Southern vs. Gonzaga game in 2013 except that game was closer in the end. I’m not saying Houston is as weak of a 1 seed as that Gonzaga team was but if they don’t get their stuff together, they’ll go out in the second round just like Gonzaga did that year.
People in this comment section clearly wanted Houston to lose lol. Much respect to NKU, probably the best #16 seed I’ve ever seen. That being said, as a born and raised Houstonian and lifelong UH fan I’m always riding with my Cougars. Everyone in here is making comments about them being a different team without Sasser. Sasser is an ALL-AMERICAN. ANY TEAM would be different without him. Either way, they hung on and got the W. That’s the bottom line.

@@ryanamburgy2791 Yes, that I’VE ever seen with my own eyes. Meaning me personally from all of the games I’ve actually watched during the tournament each year. Hats off to FDU for their big win as well 🫡. But I stand by my comment. NKU is the best #16 seed that I PERSONALLY have watched play.

Man my Norse kept up until the last 5 minutes. Had a few of those 3s dropped, it would have been way different. Great season.Go Norse 🤟

Bro does this Houston do it to me every year I ended thinking they might make elite 8 or final four. Then I watch the game and they be really about to lose then just turn it up. But I don’t think they’ll make it far.

16 seed has upset 1 seed team in tournament play before. These NKU kids want to win and played excellent but in the end UH won. UH has looked flat the last 4 or 5 games. It’s hard to keep playing at a high level the entire season but they can’t afford to slack up now. It doesn’t matter who they play the other team is not going to just lay down. Auburn is next and it will be like a home game for them being played in Birmingham , Alabama so UH can’t afford to come out sluggish or they may get in trouble fast.

Near the end Northern Kentucky had no legs left, every shot was missing short because they gave it everything they had to try and win that game. They out worked Houston the entire game, but just couldn't hit the shots they needed to win. They deserved this win, but just didn't quite have enough.
This is one of those situations where Houston won the fight, but Northern Kentucky won the night. Mad respect for the effort they gave.
Everyone will forget tomorrow, but they outplayed their seeding. Could have easily made round 2 if they played anyone outside of seed 1.

As a Texas Longhorns fan I felt bad for northern Kentucky because they were struggling from three-pointers tonight but I’m proud of northern Kentucky for having most of this game within single digits of the lead!! I give Northern Kentucky a lot of credit for that!! I wish northern Kentucky would’ve upset Houston but it’s okay!! Now I hope that the Elite 8 is Houston vs Texas and I hope that the national championship is FDU vs Texas Longhorns!! I still hope the Texas Longhorns win the whole tournament!!

With Sasser gimpy they're an upset waiting to happen...a groin, like a hammy, takes forever to heal and the more you try to play with it, the worse it gets and the longer it takes to heal. Auburn just may be the team to put them out of their misery this Saturday...too bad too, because it really wrecks my brackets. I had them in my Elite 8.
I didn't think they were in misery already. Just had a tough matchup against a feisty team. We'll see who's contending and who's pretending Saturday

I think ncaa needs look at there seeding. I bet huston don't have this close a game for a week. So your gonna tell NKU is 16thnd wrost team in that region, they seed so called big teams with good seeds.i bleed blue, Kentucky blue, but a 6th seed, northern KY gets 16 th seed. NKU was a big man away from winning this game, to many 2nd and 3rd shots for huston, to many bunnies inside. Prord of these dudes though, Sam Vincent is a special player only a sophomore ncaa torney will see him again!!!!!!

these low seeds come in with a chip on their shoulder - they want to embarrass a 1 seed. they can be tough and pesky. NK was all of that. Probably better than a 16 seed. I am worried about UH - they look extremely flat. They clearly have massive talent. But - come on guys - look alive.

Down a star player, UH played like a team that did what they had to do. It takes six wins for a championship and style points don't figure into the box score boys. 5 wins left Coogs.
It’s concerning tho that without sasser Houston really struggles. That’s not a a good sign when looking at a national champion favorite, one trick pony teams always go out early.
