  • I was at the reptile store and casually learned a lot of stuff about this white throat monitor. Always fun to learn about reptiles that I know nothing about.
    Covers natural context, basic needs like food, housing, and temperature.
    If only I had the money, time, space to keep one. Don't we all?
    Leave a comment below for what other stuff you want me to film.

      Wow, 18 years? Thats great. I can definitely understand how sad you must have felt, though. What was his enclosure like?

    I don't actually own this monitor. He's one of the store's personal pets and was a rescue. They aren't very common where I live so I have no idea how much they would go for. Try looking it up on kingsnake, they might have some posted there.

    Thanks, I'm a turtle guy but I love reptiles in general. Is there anything specific about large lizards that you want to see?

    You breed White Throats? I've tried finding good info on them but had almost no luck.
    How much for a young one? How is their temperament? Would you recommend them as beginner, intermediate, or advanced pets?

  • @armandfoster6048
    @armandfoster6048 11 років тому +1

    Well... These are hard to find (captive bred ones). Wild caught ones usually die faster and the offspring always dies quickly.

  • @Boneyman

    I agree, I believe that live should be fed only if it's absolutely necessary.

    my sister has a white throat monitor and it eats 3-4 large mice or day old chicken 3 to 4 times a week.It is about 2 foot and was born oct this year. Very active but not aggressive and does get fresh water every day and really likes a warm bath good pet cost £450.00 in the uk (Niles I was told are little bit more snappy told not to bother hard work?)

    Nope, I own a few of these. I breed them. I have a feeding schedule for an adult:
    Week 1 rat
    Week 2 chicken neck
    Week 3 boiled egg
    This keeps on going and mine love, they're fat and healthy blah blah blah.

    i was listening to you talk and had to laugh, the Water does not get no 9 feet neither does the Nile, the 2nd largest
    behind the Komodo dragon.is the the Croc Monitor is only because of its LONG TAIL is te CROC then water and the Water is very tamable and smart. and if youdeal with the water all the time are dog tamewith no bad temperment like your describing, try looking up NERDS they will even prove it, i hand feed mine,

    • @mattslev
      @mattslev 5 років тому

      Lar Lemmon - Water monitors can approach and exceed 10 feet in certain parts of their range, particularly Sri Lanka where there has been a confirmed specimen of 10.5-feet. Also, Nile monitors can reach 8 feet in length. Sure, these sizes are are atypical, but they’re still possible.

    • @paradiddlesixix7530
      @paradiddlesixix7530 4 роки тому

      water monitors are "bigger" than a croc monitor if you are going by anything besides total length or tooth size. but yea they can be really tame and smart animals. nile monitors on the other hand use their smarts to come up with ways to kill you.

  • @donnanelson9181

    They are arboreal. They need a tall enclosure with branches to climb. Poor thing.

  • @robertyoung701

    Hey look. It is guy who is saying you should risk injury to your monitor by feeding live because they evolved the hunt in the wild. That isn’t stupid, right? Nahhh....

    • @alx-xt3en
      @alx-xt3en 3 роки тому

      I honestly don’t trust myself to feed frozen thawed. I feed live but always make sure my animals are ok. I feel like if you make sure everything goes well it’ll be fine.

      @TheAdaoo7 7 років тому +4

      aspurr20 well technically it can but not actual aggression. it develops the knowledge to clamp on to something that moves and tear at it. it may just associate your hand with live prey. so this guy isnt entirely wrong guys.

    this poor monitor.... so thin, dehydrated, and VERY malnourished by the way he drags his body... a typical white throat shouldnt let you pet him that much without being aggressive.
