I have mine set up beetles on top, baby worms then pupae on bottom.. I’m making a good many worms but would I do better changing it to like your setup?
@@clevelandbrowns3622 petco.. I accidentally let a container get too warm (they won’t turn into pupae or beetles if kept in the fridge) so I started with 8-10 little pupae (kinda molts and looks like a big maggot) and now I’m making enough worms for my gecko and dragon after just a few months
I know this video is months old but if you want a large supply of mealworms, separate the pupae and beetles. When the beetles emerge they'll eat the pupae since they're so moist. I have a very large, very successful colony and this has helped a ton. Also, I'v heard grain mites can kill an entire colony. I haven't seen it but just a tip, microwave your oats (and let them cool) before putting them in. I thin abut 2 minutes for a cereal bowl sized amount. Works like a charm I've never had grain mites.
I've been here since this channel was quite small and i can definitely tell you the quality of your videos has increased a lot not just in terms of the 4k graphics but also the actual content is informative well worded, planned out and useful and I've learned a lot keep it up.
Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge. It's all easy to understand - straightforward, no big fuss. I got interested, just by watching your video. Please allow me to share a few thoughts: Dusty - please wear a facemask at any time when doing this sorting stuff. If you don't like the mask, do a little fine misty spraying, just before the sorting. That should keep the dust under control. I saw some Chinese doing similar work, and they've managed to time the feeding up against the lifecycles of the worms so well, so when it's time to sort out the little buggers, food is almost out - and nothing left to create dust. Just sharing.. Cheers mate
Gotta say mate, love your videos. I learned everything I needed to know about breeding Dubia roaches from you and starting my own colony. I wish I had a free heat source like you but hey the set up is pretty nice with a heat mat so can't complain. Anyways cheers for the information.
Keep spreading your knowledge! Great video. Exactly what I had been looking for. I'd send you pics from start to finish but I don't know the best way to get that to you.
okay so how long does it take inbetween each molt. its getting a little bit exspensive, so i wanna know if its worth it. also amazing channel your so personable!
I've gut loaded my adult super worms and separated in a dark space but they wont pupate they curled up into a c but after three to four weeks and haven't changed any advice?
Are you checking on them regularly? That was an issue I had . Always checking on them is adding light into them for a split second can start the process over again
one thing I’d like to know more about is “gut loading” what the best things to feed your beetles, worms, roaches etc to get more nutrients into your lizards
hi there, just discovered you, great vids. ive heard you mention the ihs doncaster show and was hoping you could tell me if their are many carpet python breeders there? thiking of going in april
Hello, you've said that the meal worms are only sometimes used as food, due to the nutrition value. If you know, then can you tell me which insects have the best value? Thank you
Hi there Love all your vids brilliant Have you had any problems with mites in with super worms and meal worms ? If you have how have you prevented this from happening again Or grain mites I think is the actual term from oats ect Hope you can help Kindest Regards Dave Lloyd
Can your animals eat The grain mites??I also heard that you can bake your meat in the oven for a little bit before you put it into the container and it will kill all the bugs and eggs and stuff
I just put the superworms in af pot of dirth, then the dig Down an pupper in the dirth and come up when they are beatle’s 🤗 for water sorce, i just use a cleaning sponge and make it wet. Easy peasy.
Give the worms a little tiny mist before you put them in the oatmealTo get rid of the mites just sterilize your oats by putting in the oven at 200 or 230 for 20 minutes and make sure they’re caught off before you use them it will kill all the mites
The tip about the food scraps don’t put super juicy food in there you things like potatoes and carrots And apples because if its juicy stuff it’s going to make it’s wet and get moldy and gross
I went to the garden centre for some mealworms for a tame robin in our garden and the man gave me buffalo worms. Never heard of them before. He said they like them more than the mealworms. Are the buffalo worms better than the mealworms? Thank you.
Ive done it your way and had more dead worms and lost money. So I bought a plastic drawer system like yours but on a grand scale. I put them in there with oats, and wheat bran, and Timothy hay to cover the substrate. In several weeks time I had lots of pupae and huge Beatles. I then picked out the pupae and Beatles and put them in separate drawers and they bred like wild fire. No special cups. So the other thing I do is I cross breed my large mealworms with the superworms yup, and I get blonde smaller superworms cause some people are overwhelmed by the aggressive nature of superworms. They have stingers much like scorpion and they whip that hind end at you and ouch!! The mealworms are much more docile and then the superworms that are bred with extra large mealworms are much easier to handle and the bearded dragons eat them much more th superworms. You need to microwave the oats or wheat bran for several min to kill the bugs. Or you can put the oats in the freezer overnight. Kills everything and no infestation of grain bugs..
Super worms are probably dying because they don’t have any more air in that container and it didn’t look like they had food either but I’m not done a video I wonder if he put them in an egg carton they would separate them selves to pupate
I’m reading super worms and meal worms they’re all in the same tub with potting soil and a special lid on top because Beatles will get out of the container
Maybe stick to egg cartons becauseShoeboxes could have a lot of toxic ink on them if you care... I would also think the better food you fed them so maybe throw in some extraBesides just banana I mean you’re going to throw it away anyway
Just my opinion... I like Superworms Because they are 3x Bigger, More attractive in appearance and The Beetles again are much more Attractive from a Pet kind of stance!!!
Hi please check out my new channel! I just started keeping super worms (bought them by mistake and wanted mealworms) but now I’ve been doing a lot of research on how to breed super worms and it seems easier then meal worms but it’s also hard cuz I can’t understand measurements so it’s hard for me to know how big the worms need to be and I’ve been trying to look at pictures of super worms in hands to under how big they need to be and I feel stupid to not understand that part and it’s making me struggle a bit and need some help. I’m gonna give them till Sunday for them to eat as much as they can before separating them

Can super worms eat mango peels?
It is suggested to microwave the oats for about 20 seconds to kill off the mites in the oats.
How to keep fruit flies away from their container sir?
Don't let there food go bad. Ie I use a banana peel but I'll only leave it there 2 days then replace it

No

Thank you for all the details and explanations you’re very smart except for when you’re using to see if you’re very stupid put a mask on LOL
Never use oats, use wheat bran, way better and safer for both mealworms and super.

As for the dust why don’t you just use oatmeal or something less dusty and put a mask on everyone has a mask these days
Exactly that’s what I was thinking😅 cause that’s what I use when I get them
So much blabla for so few content
