Roy Owen Haynes (born March 13, 1925) is an American jazz drummer. He is among the most recorded drummers in jazz. In a career lasting over 70 years he has played swing, bebop, jazz fusion, avant-garde jazz and is considered the father of modern jazz drumming. "Snap Crackle" was a nickname given to him in the 1950s.
He has led bands such as the Hip Ensemble. His albums Fountain of Youth and Whereas were nominated for a Grammy Award. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1999. His son Graham Haynes is a cornetist; his son Craig Holiday Haynes and grandson Marcus Gilmore are both drummers.
Roy is a GENIUS in the art of jazz drumming

Great interview! Thanks! Where's part 2? Please? ;)
Roy is the history of drums in jazz and is also interesting as a human being. Perhaps his longevity is being so ironic and witty.
I love Roy Haynes, he's one of the best drummers of all time, and one of the coolest guys too - It's a shame that this interview stays on the surface, Matt Wilson just can't manage to place even one good "question"...
This interview with Roy Haynes "on the surface" because Matt Wilson isn't a journalist. He's a fellow drummer. Unless Mr. Wilson studied journalism and understood its parameters, there isn't going to be anything in depth with this interview.
