About 40 years ago I worked in a Navy R&D facility that started using some of the very earliest prototype lithium batteries which were made by GTE. I don't remember the exact chemistry but it was a double D size that was 3.6V/10Ahr. Massive capacity for the day. Turned out that GTE never tested the proto batteries for what happens if they got shorted. Since we were going to be putting the batteries in things that would be in salt water, we did. They EXPLODED with a force equivalent to 1/3 stick of dynamite. GTE later solved that minor testing oversight. I believe they put a compound into the mix which impedes the rate of discharge so they won't explode. I believe that's true for most (all?) lithium batteries. Now they can just overheat and catch fire.

The down side to the rc hobby. You got your plane and you crash, but fixable then *BOOM* lipo fire bye bye plane
Kevin Talbot XD
Lol stick to trucks. More durable. By the time a truck battery ignites. Its toast
pws3rd 1 Trucks are fun but a lot of people rather flying aircrafts, and most don’t crash often
@@Canoodlan I had minimal luck with rc things that flew when I was younger. Worse is that I actually had a metral barn with a 20 foot ceiling and no air disturbances, yet still had horrible luck. I liked four wheelers so rc trucks was natural
or you battery faults through massive voltage drop and you have a meteorite

great video, but letting that battery explode right next to the car battery was way too dangerous considering how close yall were standing
naah its totally safe honestly. I do that all the time. I only melted my face once.
