I had a 3412 in FM17 with an En Ganche. The mids pushed up to him and played in the halfspaces, the wingers were on attack, my two forwards as well. My guy wasn't a goal scorer but he had 20+ assists, and a lot of 3 pass goals started with him as well. I need to get back to playing it one of these days.
If you want to know what an Enganche is, it's the most iconic South American role. You cannot understand it but will surely enjoy it. If you want to try, watch Juan Roman Riquelme or a bit more modern, James Rodriguez

The key to the Enganche is the rest of the teams tactics. To get the best out of it you need to stretch the opposition out to create space for the Enganche. Then you need someone with great passing, vision and flair to ping the passes into the attackers.
Strength is low key op for this role. I just think of this guy as a classic post-up type of player from basketball. Wherein if they have both the strength and the skill they can create some truly great moments and opportunities. The last great #10 Riquelme didn't need the pace of course due to his technique but you also see how many guys he can hold with his back in many highlights. Forcing the defender to close down harder and closer allowing his technique and flair to flourish without the pace.
It's a highly structured role, that's why. You need your star player in this role as the focus and cornerstone of the tactic, surrounded with players to support him.
I'll try it when my team has the capacity to get someone skilled enough in that position. Thinking about a 4-4-1-1. I want the enganche to hold position in that most dangerous area and not move near the wings. Stretch the pitch as much as possible with inverted supporting wingers and fullbacks on both sides. Work the ball in the box, lower tempo, less crossing. Ball into feet, Try killer bals on him and maybe spread to the wings. Two midfielders on defense below him to cover the aggressive both side wing overlapping and also hold the ball/win it for him if he needs to free himself from a marker. Because I don't want him to press a Pressing forward on attack might do well, but the AF is alright too. If that doesn't work well enough maybe get a Target Man in front of him on attack to hold the ball and have wingers on attack do the runs inside from wide to score. I like the idea of runners making runs past him into the box but I think that also smooshes an alreadyt easy to mark static player. That requires someone who can hold up play till the run is complete and stat wise he's not supposed to be able to. He should be relying on that crazy first touch, vision, technique, decisions and passing to make the killer pass as soon as he touches the ball with no time for the defense to react and the team already being up high with no need to hold up or pass back much. I guess the tempo will depend on the kind of team he's up against. Lower for teams sitting back and defending. Higher for aggressive pressing teams.
Good stuff. Do you feel the abilities of the Enganche are more important or the abilities of those around him that he's able to distribute to? Can a good Enganche lift up the players around him or is he made to look good by skilled runs being made?
@@TheManagersSeat I've used 2 wtm in a system for the last 10/15 mins of a game needing a goal. being more direct and working well for most occasions, also in 352 using 2 carrllios to hold the wide areas while the wbs moved forward creating a wide system to reasonable success's

Good role, for veteran playmakers, I'm thinking cesc fabregas, lallana, David Silva, those who can't run and don't have work rate.

I'd say a bit of both in honesty. Role needs the right roles around him otherwise it would really flop
