2 ocean tugs towing in tandem a large drilling platform across a rough Atlantic....incredible boats....incredible men. i did a similar tow from the Canary Islands to Brownsville Texas onboard drilling platform as medical doctor. 58 days. 4 kn. 100 miles/day. Columbus and his 3 ships crossed the Atl. faster than us.
I spent years on a ocean going tug. That is a calm sea in my book. Some one needs to get better at securing and lashing stuff down for rough weather. We new that first had being a search and rescue tug. The open ocean wonderful feeling away from all, calming to the mind. At times I wished we would just stay out forever.
The tow rope almost made it's way up over the crash rail at one point. The ship could become anchored over the side in when it's broadside to the swell if it goes to the quarter rail. Happened to us one time when were were pulling anchors. Had to rig an acetlyene torch on the end of a boat hook and burn it off. We couldn't get the cable back and the wind was picking up. It wasn't pretty.
THanks for the video RED h.c. Mike roughtly, 125 Grammes per horse power per hour. Density = 0.85. Oceanic tugs such as Smit Houston was 23 000 HP. I don't know power of these boats Sorry.
Great thanks ! I listened to the album samples on iTunes, it's the same melody with different speeds and arrangements, strange… The one you chose is the best, in my opinion, so I bought it It goes particularly well along the video atmosphere !

Nice videos about a subject I have always wondered about , Thank you !
John Fry Your welcome sir!
P.S. I like the music !
Great video. This big tug moving like a tiny boat, quite impressive with these high winds and seas.
Thanks for the video
The sound keeps cutting in and out for me. Quite distracting.
shut............................up
maersk detector is in fredericia now. i have been onboard it
As an American how hard is it to get a job on one of these tugs?
Excellent add....heavy weather....who is the music group?
Down in the galley they want to know how you want your eggs scrambled.
Not really heavy weather. Little bit of roll, the bridge got that cable off the rail quick.
Good video, lousy sound. I was kinda getting into it.
Nothing like being in the trough catching them on the beam!
You catch in the beam and them make my breakfast.
Thanks for trying In and Out music one minute was enough for me
What heavy weather? I've seen higher waves in my bathtub. 😅
Congratulations, I’m so proud of you 👏👏👏
If your vids get blocked due to music - leave it out and let us listen to the sound of wind and waves pls!
Don't you use the deck pins for towing?
I wouldn't. Especially not in a tandem tow.
A Maersk, é no ramo offshore uma empresa respeitadissima.
The destination is St.John's, not St. John (Different Canadian cities)
No one cares, Canada is gay.
@@TheSoloAsylum Who are you, John Candy?
@@hendrikkanavel8378 haha
wait, it seems end of june, I do not know when this film real time is but it is really surprised of having ice-berg? is it?
There are icebergs out there in early July.
it is not heavy weather, just a left over swell, hardly and wind waves at all, calm weather in fact as far as ocean towing goes
I can ride these seas in a john boat and a 6 horse.
@@TheSoloAsylum That's what a lot of amateur fishermen have said on Lake Michigan. Quite a percentage of them are still on the bottom.
@@hendrikkanavel8378 There swabbing me decks when I'm out there.
Good vid, thanks.
Your welcome Phillip!
Hi, great video! What are you using for chafing gear? Gotta be brutal on it constantly moving like that.
The cable runs through a pipe, that should stop the chaffing?
Repetitive stern shots, and in and out audio-otherwise perfect.
This type tug boat experience is useful to join big ships? Plz tell me sir
No.
Filming next to the tensioned cable. Not very smart.
Show us how on your 12' skiff
Its called zoom!
Is the first video the boat pulling the Platform
Correct, together with the Maersk AHT.
Why no midship gig eye ?
That is what I was wondering as well?

Skip the music next time, please.
What was the final bill for the transport of the oil rig?
$85 Plus tip.
None of us could afford the insurance on that tow, let alone the actual tow.
Boat speed, average?
90mph.
Liberty call in St. John's?
How much fuel do these tugs carry? How many gallons per hour do you use?
THanks for the video RED h.c.

160 grammes per kh/h
about 800 gals hour
for 20000shaft horse power
Mike Rood About 70 MT per day
pays to pay out some cable, else wear in one place as cable hits outer deck edge
Chafing gear.
The music is very nice, but the title given doesn't match with what iTunes plays ???? what is the real title and artist, then ?
nanba25 Sail by Alownation is the first song.

nanba25 Thank you for your kind words buddy😊
What no guide post for the tow line?
Steering would be restricted with a tight tow line.
It sure does!
no, guide post are known homosexuals.
@@TheSoloAsylum You would know.
You are not a sailor - perhaps you are a gardener ??? These are NOT tugs !!!
