I like the great idea: "cello students to learn this concerto even without help of cello teacher" Can we have the second movement as well? It is profoundly "romantic" and ...
Thanks so much for the slow tempo video. I'm just now learning the Lalo first movement and practicing the first two pages - just for fun. I've always wanted to play Lalo but it was rather difficult. Now that I'm a little bit older and mature with 25+ years orchestra experience tackling some challenging repertoire, I think I'm ready for this. What tempo are you using for practice purposes?
Hi Amy! The tempo I use for practice can vary greatly depending on the difficulty of the particular passage I'm working on. When learning a new and challenging piece, my practice tempo is usually quite slow - sometimes even half of the performance tempo, or slower if needed. The key is to choose a tempo where you can play the notes, articulation, and dynamics correctly and comfortably. For particularly tricky spots, I'll reduce the tempo even further, breaking it down note by note if necessary. As the passage becomes more familiar and comfortable under my fingers, I gradually increase the tempo, but always ensuring that I can maintain accuracy and control. Remember, the aim is to build up muscle memory and ensure you're playing with good technique. Once that’s in place, speed will come with time.
Hi Maxim! I love the recording quality in all of your videos! Are you using the Sony pcm d100 as your primary mic? I am planning to buy it. Thank you for uploading so many helpful videos!
For those interested in a real tempo version, it may be worth watching Maxim Kozlov’s performance of this piece, with piano accompaniment. It begins at the 30:00 time mark here ua-cam.com/video/yDBWsUuYT4Y/v-deo.html
Excellent work! This is really helpful as I study this piece as my very first standard concerto. Might I ask, what do you think are prerequisite etudes I could play first before venturing into this piece?
Thank you! I think that Sebastian Lee op 31 book 2, Franchomme op.35 and Dotzauer book 2 from 113 etudes would help you to boost your skills. Stay safe!
Hi , Terrance. Due to copyright restrictions I can not provide a copy of an edition I used. It is published by International Music Company. Here is a link to buy it amzn.to/2Qu5jt4
Unaccompanied cello concerto! This is what I've been longing for :D Can I expect original tempo version, too? + Just a passing suggestions... 1) Can you turn off auto-translation function? I don't want to suffer terrible korean (or chinese, or any language, ...seems like it depends on internet access location) translation of video title and video description. 2) Why not try for another microphone for recording? Raw and realistic sound could be more appealing. I'm referring to this kind of sound(ua-cam.com/video/mpSvpTnZpbk/v-deo.html), something student can hear when a teacher plays an etude in front of him/her. For now, added reverb or any other acoustical distortion give a unnatural impression.
Thank you for very good suggestions! 1. As far as I understand, it helps with search rankings when video info is translated. I understand that it might be quite irritating to see bad translations. As a remedy to this problem I had some people to send me a corrected translations which I added to those videos. 2. I never happy with the sound I am getting from my recordings. However, I found out that most of listeners like when I add some reverberation. The result reminds me about performing in good concert halls in the past. I often miscalculate how much I should use it, but the effect varies depending on listener's audio equipment. I doubt that I will post a real tempo video of this concerto. I feel that it would have to be done with an orchestra. I was fortunate to perform some other concerti in the past (not Lalo). So.. if there will ever be chance to find an orchestra to play with, the recording will be added to my channel. All the best!
Thank you so much! I greatly appreciate all of the time spent on the video. Wonderful playing!!
Thank you so much!!! I am in love with this music and just found it here in slow time!! Now I'll be able to learn it!! Thanks a lot!!
You're very welcome!

Hey cellopedia, is it possible for you to put the fingerings in the description?
