Complete songs. not just main riffs or half a song. i notice most songs you only do half the song n no solos or fills. or if you do solos you dont do what is played behind the solo. its not always the main riff.

Hey Mike I’m gonna have to agree with some of the people on here about doing lessons on full songs. It would be a grind for sure but I think you would seriously benefit from doing that alone. You got the ear for it man and you definitely can play outstandingly. I’ve been watching you for years. You were one of the guys who actually taught me lots of songs when I was a beginner. But as I got better at guitar, myself and I’m sure others can attend to this, leaned more towards guitarlessons365’s videos on UA-cam. Not because he’s a better teacher but simply because he has the material a lot of us are looking for in UA-cam guitar lessons. What I think would be a great idea and what would make people watch WAAAAYYYYY more of your videos is if you not only put out complete lessons on songs but if you went a little bit into the theory behind the song you are teaching as well maybe with some tabs too. That would put the spark in your channel compared to others. Like say you were doing a lesson on one of George Lynch’s masterpieces and you explained the scales underneath it and the theory behind a solo he’s playing. Now that is something I personally would love to pay attention to. You rock man. -Cameron

Brother. I applaud your guts (and wisdom) to ask this question.
You have taught me some good stuff. From Stryper to Richard Marx. You are a very good teacher. I learned subgrouping from you too.
The things that I don’t see are the camera angles for your hands. I know you clearly don’t want to do that but honestly it keeps me from watching your new stuff. Carl Brown with his 3 camera format is spot on with his layout. That being said I think your communication is better. If you don’t change from the same old same old you will sacrifice views IMO
Lighting would be second on the list. Sound is good most of the time tho.

As much as I would love full songs, I understand that this may not always be feasible. I once saw a lesson that broke down the song into its main motifs. Production quality. Ive pointed this out before. Do the odd review etc and your channel will blow up. You can still do your own thing but you need to play the game a bit and feed the algorithm. Glad youre gonna do it. Youre the best place for the classic stuff most of us want. My only concern would be that if you get bigger copyright issues will arise. Theres a reason most guitar channel guys never play anything but their own original music. Id start with better lighting and audio. Set up a space to look more professional not a dank corner in your basement. Your background should be clean bright and appealing. Add some colour. Make an intro. Add some graphics. Make a logo.

Critique from lifetime professional photographer here - stronger light set up - 2 studio lights pointing at you and guitar at 45 degree angles, maybe a divider/ screen behind you- eliminate busy backgrounds (see Marty’s instructional guitar videos for example), camera more level to the guitar neck - entire songs like others mention (at least all the rhythm parts). I know silos take up too much time so just mention whatever key the solo is in. Otherwise I really like your channel, you cover the more heavier tunes of the 70’s and 80’s that I prefer practicing.

@@mikegrossguitar Hi Mike, kinda same here...professional camera operator/video editor. Your channel would benefit a lot with a basic lighting set up it could be a single light with softbox or diffusion material to keep things simple for you so you're not overwhelmed attempting to light your space with multiple light sources. Go on youtube and look up "basic lighting setups for a one person shoot"...that sorta thing you may need to search various search terms but there's lot's of videos that will teach you how to light your space. Your teaching style is awesome nothing needs changing there you really are top tier in that regards. Like the other guy mentioned play around with the camera angle...I would shoot you more straight on vs the angle from above. I like your stuff much more than Marty but give this vid a look, the lighting is very good and basic. You can keep all that gear in your background just make it dark back there while lighting YOU, you could play around with a couple of decorative lights in background for "effect" like the ones in the beginning of Martys vid but they are not the main source of light. ua-cam.com/video/H-BNw_4Juug/v-deo.html. No need to rush to do this I think some youtubing tutorials on lighting set ups so you have a good understanding of it before you decide to purchase any light gear. You don't need to spend a lot of cash to get good results. Cheers man!

I really like your content. It's not very easy for me to learn, I'm new at it and don't have any friends or anything that play and can't afford lessons. Most channels I've watched, I've not had much luck following what they were showing. While you're not necessarily showing things meant for a beginner, I am still able to follow what you're showing and learn.. I think you're an excellent teacher.
I know gear is terribly expensive these days, but upgrading your camera to do 4k would be a big bonus, I think. I've got some overtime coming. I'd be happy to donate a bit to help out. I think your audio is pretty good as is.
As far as lighting goes, I got like 250 feet of color changing led strip for let than 30 bucks that has a remote and lots of ambiance options. People like Shiney and glowing things, lol.
As far as content goes, I think a weekly sandwich time would be cool. Everyone could share a meal and some refreshments of choice and talk about favorite bands, guitars and setups and effects all the fun stuff we all dream of, lol. It would be interesting and perhaps create a stronger sense of community.
Best wishes! Keep on keepin on. 😊

The different camera angles is a great idea Mike. I’ve seen other channels where they do that and it is very helpful

No offense whatsoever, Mike, but just from an anesthetics perspective, I've always thought your videos are very dark. The lighting, the dark colors on screen, it just has an overly dark feel.
Maybe put some brightly colored backdrops, brighter furniture (in picture), and even the color of clothes you wear in camera. Some reflective lighting would probably do wonders.
