    If you have any question about the Huawei's camera app/settings, feel free to post a message and I'll try to answer your question.
    And sorry about the bad audio in this video! There was some low frequency hum in the room i did the opening talk, and then my external audio recorder captured a lot of noise during the main video so I have to revert back to the phone's internal audio.

      Is there any mode that can be compared with moving photos in Samsung Note 8 (that allows you to record a small video of what happen in the scene 3 seconds before the photos, allowing you to save the best images you have capture)

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  6 років тому +2

      yes. The circle/sun like icon at the top (or right in this video) of the screen allows you to capture a short moving picture with the static photo. But i don't think you can save the best frame from the moving photo.

      Hi Luke you will need a tripod, set to pro mode, set shutter time to around 15s, iso 1600 .. then use timer or a headphone to remote trigger so you get no camera shake. Remember you need a night with clear sky and no moon as well.

    Great job on another video. If you have to to compare this camera to the Huawei mate 10 Pro how do they compare to each other? When taking still pictures is there much of a difference? Also my last question is when is the best time to use HDR mode? Is it better at night time or during the bright sunlight? Thanks for your time and I appreciate your help.

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  6 років тому +1

      hi John, thank you! It's a bit hard to answer the first question. I would say, for a lot of everyday photos (especially during the day), there would be very small difference between the Mate 10 Pro and a P20 Pro. But the P20 Pro does have some key advantages when you need them: 40MP RAW, night shot mode, maximum ISO 102400, the 5x hybrid / 3X optical zoom and I feel the AI scene recognition also appears to be a bit better as well.
      Re HDR Mode, only use it when there is high contrast and you want to preserve highlight (or shadow) details. It benefits both daytime and night time scenes as long as it is high contrast. Generally HDR mode can also help reduce noise when shooting night scene as well but i haven't test it on the Mate 10 or P20

    Hey dude, your video is excellent! I got a question: When do I need to take RAW photos? What's good for?

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  5 років тому +1

      if you want to do some major editing to it, RAW has all the information, so you can do more adjustment with less image degradation. If you just want to apply an instagram filter, then don't worry about RAW.

    Got the P20 pro phone yesterday and found a lot of the shots are dull and lack vividness. For example shots indoors with a light on. Ive used photo mode with IA/flash off along with flash on. But still the shots are. dull? Ive found found photos can be better with flash off on some settings but still they are dark and blurred with an orangey shade. Ive done night mode indoors with flash on which is bettter than photo IA setting but even on vivid setting as I've done with all that give the option, it's still lacking. Ive found hdr flash on to make it look as bright as in real life but some shots can still be lacking and the other mode is pro setting with EV moved up to 1 or 2 with flash on. I thought all shots would be good as this camera is supposed to be the best on phones but why do i find its dull in alot of shots and that's in rooms with a room light on? Also IA mode on photo is meant to make point and shoot shots good but i find its no different to photo with IA off and HDR and pro mode are better. But still not as good as the hype and spec are. Can you help with this?

    Great explaination! I'm thinking of getting the P20 for the lower price. I'm particularly interested in taking low light/night photos like lit buildings or city streets at night and play with light and shadows. Heard the p20 pro is known to overexpose in those situations and that colors are much warmer, not as "realistic" as the p20. Is that true? And even so, can you adjust it in the pro mode? I would get the pro instead if It makes a difference in low light. Thank you.

      Hello hello kitty!! Nice nickname! If you can afford, definitely get the p20 pro as the camera is much better. I haven't done any side by side test with p20 Vs p20 pro, but the pro should be better in every area in term of photos and yes you can change the warmingness (is it a word?) In pro mode

      @@TheRealRichardWong Thank you! And thanks a lot for the quick answer. I based the question on a review on yt since he talks about shadows and exposure. ua-cam.com/video/nYI19AzFvJc/v-deo.html. I wouldn't mind playing wit the setting before taking a pic if these problems can be fixed, dk if it's really the cameras fault or the slightly dif angle or sth else and plus what improvements software updates can bring. Also do you take the pics in RAW?

      I just watched that video, to be honest I think the difference in auto exposure and white balance is really small and would most likely be different if you shoot different kind of photos. And you can also override most of this easily in pro mode if you want. Trust me, The camera on the p20 pro is much better.

      And most of the time I just take photo in auto/jpg mode. Only when I see something I want to capture the best quality I would shoot in pro mode output in raw

      Hi lulu, not too sure if it is enough to make a video to be honest. I would probably try night mode if it's really dark.

      You can shoot in aperture mode and choose a small value aperture such as f/1.4

    Very nice video. Well done. Just my thoughts on focus lock vs exposure lock..... At 8:00 you are talking about exposure, however I believe what you are actually doing is locking the focus AND exposure on a certain object. First you lock focus on an object (by touching and holding for 1 sec on the P20 screen), then drag the centre icon of the sun to achieve desired exposure. The outer ring is for focus BTW. Those who understand DSLR's will be familiar with the above. Another small opinion that may help those on a budget.... the Mate 9 is a very very solid phone and in some respects better than the P20Pro.... camera is also beautiful. I only upgraded as I accidentally (severely) dropped my Mate9, otherwise a whole year later, it performed like it did out of the box.

      Hey Warren thanks for the comments and sharing your experience. Oh yes I forgot about the hold and drag exposure completely!! Thanks for the tip!
