The reason FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood is preferred is because it was much closer to the source material than the original version of the show which ended before the manga was finished and had to come up with it's own ending.
If you listen carefully during award shows, Hollywood generally does not respect animation. And honestly a lot of adults will assume animated stories are for children and look down on the art form as well. Live Action releases exist because some people believe a story is only legitimized if it's depicted by flesh and blood actors.
My feelings towards this is exactly how I feel towards the Disney live-action remakes. Sure the remake might end up not sucking and maybe even decent. However, the original source was already close to perfection.
I'm considering going into college to study storywriting and animating. I read a couple old classic literature books in school for assignments, stuff like Jane Eyre, Madame Bovary, and a couple Jane Austen works for my own enjoyment added on. I enjoyed those stories, and I always thought about what fun it would be to remake those stories in modern or fantastical settings. It's been done, obviously, and I'd sure like to make my own stories first. Remaking a story shouldn't be for a cashgrab, it should be for improving the original and bringing out its potential, like you said.
I think the main reason companies are losing so much money because of movies made recently is because there is simply so much shit out right now. The average viewer couldn't give less of a damn about the politics of something, in fact I think the politics of a movie/show don't really matter considering Spiderverse made a good chunk of money (and was generally a banger of a movie). But with everything being given a live-action remake is just worsening this situation, especially with iconic disney movies being remade. Movie's are more quantity over quality, and I think the title alone is a good description of the current situation, literally everyone can't be bothered to go watch some movies because there is simply so many out right now, and a lot of them aren't that good.
There also exists a Death Note live-action drama made in Japan. I haven't seen it and I don't really know if it's generally considered good or not. I at least have to imagine it's better than the Netflix movie.
We're never going to get an actual continuation of avatar, are we? Two live action remakes just retelling the story of the original, and a sequel series that's so bad that the main character felt the need to mug the audience and shout "I'm the avatar now, and you've got to deal with it!"
Honestly, I hate watched Legend of Korra just so I could criticize it fully. The first season is arguably the best one, with a decent plot set up that they just completely abandon and never touch on again. The second season with the fuckin bullshit flying kite spirits unfortunately is not even the worst one. The third season was just absolute bollocks the plot was abhorrent with the return of airbenders seemingly out of nowhere and without any decent explanation. And the last season was alright except for the confusing as fuck ending and leaves no room for fucking anything there is no real conclusion. Season one has position 1, season four has position 2, season two has position 3, and season three has position 4 going from 1 being best to 4 as worst. Honestly the ranking doesn’t mean much outside of season one the rest are ass.
No way ive been rewatching it for the past two weeks, talking to my friend about how avatar did two great animated shows and announced a third one without ruining it, and i see this now
The One Piece live action adaptation introduced the story of One Piece to a broader audience and get more people into the story. The Last of Us live action adaptation introduced the story in an entirely new and different medium. The Scott Pilgrim animated series is adapting the story into a medium that shows off the strengths of the story. Why is this a thing?
This feels like the goosebumps situation where it’s gonna be seen good for some people but hated by the initial fans (especially when the original creator left the project)
I'm open to the Avatar remake as long as it at least tries some things differently and adds to the story, while also not making these changes feel bizarre or unfitting. Like if it's gonna be a one-for-one remake but in live action, it's like, that's fine ig, I can appreciate the effort that was put into it (costuming, acting, special effects, etc.) but it's also like. . . if it's basically the same thing, what's the point in making it? (well, besides the obvious one of it being a "safe" option bc it has a built-in audience, so it'll probably get a lot of views and money.) I heard it is going to be overall faithful to the source material (which I would want them to stick to at least the basics of the story), but I'm a bit worried it'll learn too hard in that direction. I want a somewhat different experience than before, it's why I liked FFVII Remake so much. It sticks to the basics of the story, while also adding so many things and taking it in slightly different directions that it doesn't feel close to just playing the same game again.
OK - I wasn't a One Piece fan, but I've been watching the anime, following the live action, and I honestly have to say that the live action pulled some things together better than the original, and some of the arcs hit harder. At the same time, the anime had fuller stories, which to me seemed a little bloated (but that's a preference thing). Will I like this one? I mean, it's been forever since I watched The Avatar, so probably. I'll probably like it too, if it isn't trying to push "the message," and stays true to the source material while telling an engaging story, with good actors.

I think in the case of Avatar a lot of people are confused as to why there was a need to adapt it to live action. The original series was pretty much perfect, I re-watched it this year so I'll vouch, so what is there to be gained other than money? If you mess with something that good you're more likely to make it worse, especially with the ever looming temptation to cram in "the message". As far as I'm concerned, the best version of The Avatar already exists, is so far proving to be timeless, and already in the medium that holds the most potential. As for One Piece, I totally agree with you. Although I see it as a downgrade in medium, the original anime is reeeeally old and a lot of it hasn't aged well. There's also the issue of it being a weekly anime, so the animation quality takes a massive dip when compared to other animated shows and the pacing is whack. Probably the main reason why Avatar holds up a lot better is because it wasn't made on a schedule like that. In any case, there was a lot of room for the live action version to improve upon the anime, even if (in my opinion) the anime had the potential to be so much greater. For now the live action version does have it's own niche and reason to exist. Though, if they ever remake those first few hundred episodes of the anime well, then I can see the live action quickly being disregarded as the inferior version, but they'll never do that so you're right. But hey, those are just my thoughts, what about yours? Let me know in the comment section below.

The dumbest argument is "🤓👆but is an adaptation, they need to change", NO they don't need, anyone is holding a gun in front of the filmmakers and forcing them to do this.
1:22 real. I really didn’t understand the hype for live action OP after watching it. After I finished, in my head i thought “I could legit have rewatched the East Blue arc,” and sure enough I had way more fun after I rewatched the anime version
It is what it is, unfortunate as that happens to be. As companies start to take profit over art, of course they'll just take the easy route of making old classics into live action as it is cheaper, less time, less work, and less thinking. I wouldn't be surprised in the coming years, if movies like Iron Giant, Treasure Planet, and Atlantis:The Lost Empire get their own Live Action Remake.
I feel like they should do a live action of legend of Korra that is one of those where I can see a live action doing something different that can help the show. Korra is already a mix bag who knows the live action can actually make the show good.
I honestly think these adaptations exist to more or less, well ofc make money, but to also works to bring a new take into something thats loved, and also celebrate that thing, although again that would be an “emotional” PR justification, the real thing is just money, but again I think Netflix has found a way to just farm money from nostalgia while also introducing these amazing stories to more people, who think “cartoons” and anime are immature or whatever So yeah thats why its quite simple
It’s like me coming to your house and being like ,,Wow, I LOVE all these perfectly working lamps u got here, let me redo them!”, I proceed to gather plywood, put that dirty shit on your living room carpet, dowse it in gasoline and set it aflame….,,See? It’s just like your lamps!”
1:22 it's not made for you who seen original, don't compare it. We others don't watch anime but might be useful to use the story the way it reaches more people outside anime watchers :)
I think that they are trying to bank on people watching the last Airbender LA because of the very old problem that if a show doesn't get Squid Games level of popular, then after one or two seasons they will pull the plug on the thing. If that is the case, then we will be in an arch of Netflix where they are slowly dying and going to try to make live action everything on its way out.
I missed when ATLA was just a niche thing people of my generation watched as kids. It felt like it was our little show that we cherished and didn't over think. Ever since it got on netflix it has been overrated to hell and back and now it's being bum fucked by capitalism. I know its gatekeepy but god I wish the show just stayed with my generation who grew up watching it on tv
I feel like it's not about making it better its about telling the story in a different way for a different type of fanbase and it might work it might not it might be better it may be worse
Other than money, the reason they remake these shows in live action is back there is a surprising number of people who refuse to watch the animation but are more open to a live action, my mom is like that. The One Piece show also got me to watch the anime so there's that
I think they made it bc Netflix NEEDS a show to put em back on like squid game, and when they added Avatar, they saw a HUGE spike in popularity, so they invested, plus this could introduce avatar to a whole new generation of fans if Its good,
In my opinion, a good remake is one that at least makes a just as good adaptation, at best one that's better. I liked the One Piece live action. It wasn't perfect, but I thought it did a good enough job. Regarding Avatar, I'm a bit of a skeptic. The trailer looks good, but there are some red flags. The biggest is that the original creators left the project citing severe creative differences. OPLA worked cuz Oda-sensei was extremely involved, so this isn't a good sign. Another red flag is that the character descriptions leaked a while back, and it seemed like the show was gonna be set in an American high school setting. The trailer doesn't look like they went that route, but we can never be too sure. All in all, I'm willing to give it a chance, but I'm not gonna watch it unless other people say it's good first. Here's hoping they learned what worked about OPLA and stick to the source material 🤞🤞🤞 And hopefully fix some of the flaws of the animated series like skipping over the Great Divide episode.
The live action One Piece show made it much more accessible to the general public, since a lot of people are never going to touch anime, and getting into an anime like One Piece with its 1000+ episodes is not easy if you're unfamiliar. When my friend first tried to get me into subbed One Piece when I was 15 and all I had seen of anime was dubbed pokemon on cartoon network as a little kid, my initial reaction was, "wtf is this shit?" It wasn't until he forced me to sit down and watch it multiple times that I finally decided to give it a shot, and now it's my all time favorite show. Even though I really liked the live action the anime will always be king, but I'm glad the live action exists for people who don't like anime. That being said the live action last airbender is hardly going to be getting anyone into the show that hasn't already seen the OG. Maybe there's a few boomers who rejected the old show because it was a cartoon "for children" but the main cast members of the live action are also little kids so I don't see it being any more appealing for people like that. There's not really any lore that I feel like needs to be expanded on either. Like Diesel said, it's a near perfect show already. I don't see the new one having a valid reason for existing.
This is the first time the Netflix adaptation doesn’t look complete ass in the trailer. Even the One Piece trailer looked dogsht, but this Avatar trailer actually looks good for once. A good trailer doesn’t necessarily mean a good show, but for Netflix, it’s pretty obvious how good and faithful a show is just from the trailer and the people behind the production.
One of the only things I'd fix about the animated show is the second half of season 3. I've always wished the Zuko adventure episodes were spaced out a bit more. Having them be back to back was a little jarring for me. They were like, "Hey, Zuko just joined the gang so let's spend the literal next 4 episodes with him fixing his relationships with everyone." Literally, Zuko joins the gang and everyone forgives him for everything he's done a few days later. Always felt rushed to me. Season 3 should've had a few more episodes to help the pacing but deadlines had to be meet.

I honestly think these adaptations exist to more or less, well ofc make money, but to also works to bring a new take into something thats loved, and also celebrate that thing, although again that would be an “emotional” PR justification, the real thing is just money, but again I think Netflix has found a way to just farm money from nostalgia while also introducing these amazing stories to more people, who think “cartoons” and anime are immature or whatever
So yeah thats why its quite simple
The only reason I can think of is they wanted to do over
Aang has got the light skin stare
This video is a common diesel patches W. Had the exact same thoughts when I heard about this show coming out.
My farts are better than Diesel’s farts 💨
The title is such a mood
What's the point: *Money*
simple as that.
and yes I'm gonna watch it cause *why the hell not?*
Honestly I think the show should get a Broadway adaption that would be fun to see.
ember island players?
@jaykeii yeah! that could show off some real martial arts and show off bending with ribbons. well maybe not earth bending tho.
At least the fire nation in this adaptation Is far more faithful then the movie.😺
My farts are better than Diesel’s farts 💨
Remasters we’re only good when they were remasters of old 50’s B movies that could use a fresh coat of paint.
This feels like the goosebumps situation where it’s gonna be seen good for some people but hated by the initial fans
If they give ozai more screen time I'm in
BTW Diesel, I'm glad you're back. I love hearing your criticism 🤣
Oh I forgot about that Old Boy remake lol
And yet a video game DLC trailer once fooled me thinking that there would be a fourth season.😢
Knowing it's Netflix, I'm expecting some preachy shit at least once. I'd be surprised if they didn't tho.
Daddy Diesel more please 😫
I wouldn’t mind if they remake legend of korra rewrite the characters change the setting the same as the avatar or set centuries in the future
old boy is 10/10
My farts are better than Diesel’s farts 💨
New sniperwolf dhar mann crossover dropped bro
1:22 it's not made for you who seen original, don't compare it. We others don't watch anime but might be useful to use the story the way it reaches more people outside anime watchers :)
I don't have an issue with it since they already confirmed that they will be making animated films/projects
I didn't know that Old Boy was a remake, I love that movie for what it is. I'll have to watch the original then it must be great.
Live adaptations are just cash grabs atp
I feel like it's not about making it better its about telling the story in a different way for a different type of fanbase and it might work it might not it might be better it may be worse
Oldboy, close to perfection? What is missing?
1:55 lol nice YMS reference
THANK YOU!!!! FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT
They should have made Walking Dead Telltale into a show
Today we watch our favorite shit talker
It’s gonna be the Shamalan Avatar all over again
At least I can know the story without watching a kids show
Shut down hollywood
Money. What else?
Should I watch Avatar? The original? I tried but got bored on the first episode. Is it worth to keep going ?
Am I the only one who wish they can adapt the comics into animation? Because that was supposed to happened but got cancelled for some reason.
daddy diesel aways warns his diesel patchlings about his films
Other than money, the reason they remake these shows in live action is back there is a surprising number of people who refuse to watch the animation but are more open to a live action, my mom is like that. The One Piece show also got me to watch the anime so there's that
Daddy came back 🥵🥰
Man we gotta watch aang bully cabbage man in live action dang.
Diesel patches, I actually have the answer to every single question you have said…
Money 💰
Man if only you had a channel where you talk about movies and tv shows
This is the first time the Netflix adaptation doesn’t look complete ass in the trailer.
Time is just a flat circle
It’s basically Disney when they made movies live action. It’s so they don’t have to write anything.
It just doesn’t need to be.
