  • President Trump says he wants to strip funding from so-called "sanctuary cities," but what exactly do these cities do?

The map at 4:26 comes from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (www.ilrc.org/l...)
Cities and counties that limit their cooperation with federal immigration agents are sometimes called "sanctuaries," but the word doesn't actually have any legal meaning. However, because the constitution prohibits the federal government from making states enforce its laws, cities, counties, and other local jurisdictions have lots of freedom to ignore, or comply with, requests from federal agencies like ICE to detain undocumented immigrants for deportation.

I like how people think Chicago is the only violent place in the US. It really isn't the only city with Violence, not to mention that LA back in the 90's was way violent than today's Chicago. LA was able to turn much of it around, I think Chicago too can do the same.

The problem is alot of people in Chicago are poor. Poverty breeds crime, instead of helping these people find jobs, have better community police relations, and have safer neighborhoods it's much easier to label them criminals. No one cares about criminals.

It can vary on a case by case basis. some illegal immigrants oder indeed come in without papers, possibly because they can't aquire those papers or those papers were lost when or before they decided to immigrate. other times you have cases of people who lost their papers after immigrating, and of course mistakes about who is and isn't illegal in a massive and overworked program. honestly I'd say what needs to happen is for more legal ways for illegal immigrants to become legal citizens. it would help thin out the herd and make it easier to identify potentially dangerous individuals. possibly. IDK I'm not an immigration expert. point being theirs easier and more beneficial ways to go about it then fighting tooth and nail, and shock upon shock you can maintain security as long as your careful.

I agree with the vox's position on this issue, but to say it doesn't seek to say which way is right is naive. They describe the problems that can occur if the detainer request is honoured, and then explain how trump's policy is making these requests more difficult to honour. How you could view this as a neutral argument is beyond me.

It's good to know that Texas will always have a place to send them where they will be welcome with open arms, and the citizens who were so proud to live in these sanctuary cities will gladly shoulder the burden....and the city leaders and citizens will totally NOT be upset with Texas for making them put their words into practice. I saw way to many comments throwing FBI and ICE together.
This topic is not about whether or not police officers get in the way of FBIs work.
It has nothing to do with this.

This is a tough dilemma. It really comes down to our humanity for others.

its not a tough dilemma. quite easy just dont force cops to send the people home. If they happen to get caught by ice than thats a whole different situation

Yeah, it should be under the 'o' in "immigration" on the first line. But I still think it's close enough to get the idea without being so far off.

“Govonor of the great state of Texas” that’s how they describe Kim jung un in North Korean media.

Why are sanctuary cities even allowed? The federal government has the right to enforce immigration laws, I'm sorry but when it comes to this issue I don't support states rights (which is what they use to decline cooperation with immigration authorities). Immigration laws should be entirely up to the federal government, illegal immigration should be a federal offense if it's not already, I'm what you'd consider to be a RINO, I consider myself to be a left leaning republican.
