Kevin (the Beat Boxer) is truly amazing. He has Perfect Pitch, plays 5 instruments including Cello, Sax and Drums. payed at Carnegoe Hall for Sax & Cello. Kevin is also fluent in several languages incluing Mandarin. He also has a Pre=Med major fromYale. You should check out Kevin's solo work like his cover of DOWN and Kevin's 5th from the Christmas Tour a couple of years ago, Scott tells how they found Kevin from a Viral UA-cam of him Beat Boxing and playing Cello (CelloBoxing)
Avi, the beginning soloist lives in a cabin in the mountains of Tennessee. He has 1000 acres of land and his driveway is over a mile long. His property is heavily forested and he cannot hear any manmade noise around him. Just the trees, wild animals, birds and all of htis brings him great joy.
Agreed 100%... Kevin's 5Th Also only saw one reaction to that...most ppl don't realize that Kevin plays the cello and beatboxes, even preforms dance moves.. truly wothh checking out... you'll not see anything like that at least that I'm aware of!!
Her name is Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) Her name is kirstie maldonado. She got married sometime in the past 6 months. She has 1 daughter and second child on the way. They streamed Their 2024 Christmas concert. It is on UA-cam. In 2017 Avi, The gentleman in the beanie who is the bass of the group, Left and was replaced by matt sallee. He also is black. The only reason I mention that is because you brought it up about Kevin. I liked your comment about nature and renewed. Another outdoor Christmas song they do that I really really enjoy is White winter hymnal
In most #Pentatonix songs they use "bell tones," high, single syllable notes that are intended to substitute for a piano. We don't hear that in "Little Drummer Boy," with its emphasis on percussion, but you'll run into it in a *lot* of their music. When you do, if possible, watch Kevin. He almost always contributes to the bell tones at the *same time* as he's providing the percussion - it's impossible to overstate how talented Kevin is. And it's *always* a treat when Kevin gets a non-percussion solo. Off the top of my head, other songs where it happens include "Imagine," "12 Days of Christmas," and "Kiss From a Rose"; I'm sure someone will tell me what I've missed. You can also hear him sing in "Run To You," a Pentatonix original written by Avi and Kevin. "Run To You" is unusual in that it has no percussion at all, and no solos; it's "just" glorious five part harmony throughout, and when I say "glorious" I'm damning with faint praise. Be sure and watch the official video, because their audio editor, Ed Boyer, did something wonderful with it. Whichever singer the camera is focused on sounds just *slightly* more distinct than the others. It isn't enough to damage the balance - you don't even notice it if you listen with your eyes closed - but with your eyes open it makes it possible to separate the voices in your head and actually listen to each performer.
Pentatonix version of Amazing Grace/My chains are gone is like Heavens choir. Everything they do is great but that one makes me cry in joy and love for the Lord. Even if you don't do a reaction video please check it out.
I’ve got no problem cheering for the black guy. Freakin adore Kevin. Such a talented, creative, and intelligent human being. My absolute favorite member. I love when he teamed up with Matt to do Dance Of Sugarplum Fairy Reimagined. His solo work is incredible as well. Kevin’s Fifth is another masterpiece.
Kevin Olusola also is an amazing celloist- and beat boxes whilst playing all the time.. Oh yeah- and he left harvard Medical school to join PTX.. he's quite accomplished
Winter solstice celebration is about the days starting to grow longer. The rebirth to get ready to sow in the spring. The first breath after the death. There is a reason why Christians chose this to celebrate the birth of Christ.
Love the reaction!!! When Krizz Kaliko & Pentatonix are on the same video, it's like a collab with two of my favorite artists that I never thought I would see. Just a quick note, they go by "Pentatonix", not "The Pentatonix". That's like saying "The Nsync" or "The Boyz 2 Men". No hate, just sharing.
Kevin is the most overall musically talented in the group. He can sing, play several musical instruments and beatbox. You both would like Kiss From A Rose, the VEVO live version. I think you would both be floored by their mashup of New Rules x Are You That Somebody. Great reaction, I subscribe to you both
Merry Christmas gentlemen! Couple of things about the great KO, aka Kevin Olusola, but first a little history. Kevin joined the group in 2011 as a beatboxer for PTX just as they entered the Sing Off competition. After they won and as time went on, PTX increasingly incorporated both his cello skills and vocals into the group. This video was filmed in 2012, so very early in their formation and we only get a tiny look at Kevin’s talent. KO sings in many of their songs. Imagine, Amazing Grace, Sing, The Prayer. His high tenor voice is often heard in the background vocals as well. He plays a major part in their arrangements. He writes original music for the group too. You should check out their Making of Evergreen short film to get a better sense of their process. Also he and Matt Sallee (new bass since 2017) have a very popular segment in their concerts where they perform together on percussion and vocals.
Also check out Kevin (the beatboxer) channel. You can see the mad genius at work. They own Christmas, O' Holy Night will lay you out. The Prayer is a must and also Bohemian Rhapsody. Originals include Run To You, Love Again, Coffee In Bed and Be My Eyes. They don't miss. Not only does Kevin sing, his pitch is amazing.
The members of #Pentatonix. In this song, in order of first solo, we have: • The song is begun, quite appropriately, with the sound of drums coming from Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable), beatboxer extraordinaire. Kevin is generally too busy being the entire percussion section to sing, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice that occasionally dips into the uppermost reaches of baritone, and he's known for the beauty of his falsetto. He's also a pretty good rapper. Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. He beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he calls "celloboxing." He performed at Carnegie Hall twice when he was a teenager, once on the cello and once on the saxophone. He graduated from Yale in 2011 with a pre-med major and had been accepted to Yale Medical School before he decided to become a professional beatboxer instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs he makes the whole planet seem like a brighter place. • "Come, they told me, pa-rum-pa-pum-pum" is sung by Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, lyric bass. In describing a man's vocal range, "lyric" means that the actual range exceeds the nominal range. Although Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo (his lowest notes have accidentally blown out speakers in live performances), his range extends upward to about the middle of a normal tenor range. In 2017 Avi found it necessary to leave Pentatonix, for a variety of personal reasons. He has since gone on to have a very successful solo career; I highly recommend subscribing to his UA-cam channel: youtube.com/@AviKaplanMusic • "A new-born King to see, pa-rum-pa-pum-pum" is sung by Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. When this was recorded Scott's range began at about the middle of a normal bass range and extended upward all the way through a normal tenor range, with an excellent falsetto on top; it has now gotten even larger. In live performances Scott typically takes over the bass harmony line when their bass has a solo. • "Our finest gifts we bring, pa-rum-pa-pum-pum" is sung by Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable), natural contratenor. Mitch has a range of just over six octaves and is considered by all the other members of Pentatonix to be the best singer in the band. He's known for his ethereal high vocals, and switches seamlessly between chest voice, mixed voice, and head voice. And when he was 19, Shawn Stockman, of Boyz II Men, said Mitch has "one of the prettiest voices I have ever heard in my life." • "To lay before the King, pa-rum-pa-pum-pum" is sung by Kirstin (also called Kirstie, which rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado, the only woman in Pentatonix. At the time this was recorded I believe Kirstin was still being called a "mezzo soprano" (mezzo being the lowest soprano range, just above alto), but currently Kirstin sings anywhere from low alto through coloratura soprano, the highest soprano range, and she has fantastic whistle notes on top of that. Recently Pentatonix has begun referring to her as an "alto soprano." Avi's replacement joined in either late 2017 or early 2018 (depending on how you figure it) and has now been with Pentatonix longer than Avi was. You'll see him in all of their newer videos: • The second black member of Pentatonix is Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), lyric bass. In addition to being the newest member of Pentatonix Matt is also the youngest member, and I'm told that bass voices improve with age. Matt's range seems to be growing on a daily basis right now. His lowest notes don't blow out speakers (though that may change within a year or two), but on his high end Matt is very close to matching Kevin's falsetto. To find Matt's current range I recommend listening to a a recent live performance of "Hallelujah," though you may want to watch their official video of "Hallelujah" first so you can hear what it sounded like with Avi. You can find the recording with Matt here: ua-cam.com/video/Se0BmDdZuX0/v-deo.html Matt's arrangement of the second verse seems to be designed to show off his full range, which is astonishing. I believe Matt has the largest range of any member of Pentatonix, past or present, though Scott is getting close to matching him. The appearance of Mitch and Kirstin tends to vary greatly from one video to another, so people will frequently think they see someone new in Pentatonix when it's really Kirstin or Mitch. With these two, go by their voices, not their appearance; their voices don't lie. To be clear: Avi is the *only* member who's left Pentatonix and Matt is the *only* member who joined later.
If you love videos set in nature, you should check out Avi Kaplan ( the beardedguy with the beanie). Change on the Rise or Move Our Souls! Merry Christmas!
Kirstin (Kirstie) Maldonado was part of the Trio in high school with Scott and Mitch. Scott made up the classification of alto-soprano to more accurately describe Kirstie’s wide octave range. She had the female lead on Broadway’s Kinky Boots for a while. In recent years, she had a daughter, Elliana, married Ben Hausdorff (Elliana’s dad) and will have another baby in a couple months. She is a class act.
Their names are Scott Hoying-sings base to tenor, Kirstie Malanado, mezzo-soprano - sings alto to high soprano. , Mitch Grassi sing baritone to soprano is an atural counter tenor, Kevin Olusola sing tenor is the vocal percussionist also plays both concert level cello and saxophone has developed a skill called cello boxing in which he plays the cello and beat boxes at the same time the bass in this video is Avi Kaplan - a operatic trained bass profundo with a range from lowest bass to tenor. Avi left the group in 2016 due family illness and burnout. He was replaced by Matt Sallee a lyric bass whose range is from bass to pretty high tenor. You would probably love their cover of The Prayer which highlights both Mitch and Scotts voices and O Holy night niight which highlights all their voices. to hear Kevin cello boxing , check out their covers of Kiss From a Rose and Say Something Also for Christmas, You would probably like both their rendtions God Rest you Merry Gentlemen and O Come all Ye Faithful. Also be warned Kirstie and Mitch change their looks a lot-Listen for their voices/
Kirstin Maldonado (mezz-soprano, Avi Kaplan (Bass), Mitch Grassi (Tenor), Scott Hoying (Baritone), Kevin Olusola (Cello) and Matt Sallee (Bass) members of the group. The group was formed in 2011 and won the 3rd season of NBC's Sing-Off. In 2017 Avi Kaplan left the group and was replaced with Matt Sallee,
Hey Guys, if you're liking the Acapella music and you like Home Free and Pentatonix, you should check out an 11 member capella choir called Vocatave. They did a Medley with Kirsten from Pentatonix called Disney Love Medley. They also did Disney Princess Medley and Disney Heros and Villians Medley. Yes I know, Disney Disney Disney. We'll each and every member of the group are currently or in the past have worked at Walt Disney World either in Epcot at the American exhibition in an acapella choir called Voices of America, where they sing American historical and patriotic sings, or as members of the Barbershop group Dapper Dan's, and in the Mainstreet singers during the parades. The group founder Jaime Rey is a musical genius and he does all of their arrangements. Anything and everything they have recorded has been amazing. A personal favorite is tge song Mary Did You Know, featuring the writer of the song Mark Lowry. But because you like Kirstens vocals, try Disney Love Medley first. By the end you will know if you like Voctave and what they have to offer.
How iconic is it that the beat boxer stops beat boxing to ask permission to beat box (play his drum)? Kevin is the Little Drummer Boy. Merry Christmas!! Peace, Love!!
So excited to see more reactions from you both to Pentatonix music videos. Tons of Christmas videos. Kevin sings in Mary Did You Know and Amazing Grace. They have a RAP video too, Can't Hold Us. Happy Holidays Guys!!!
They recorded a lot in the early years with just simplicity because they had no money. Daft Punk, which won a grammy was done in one of their kitchens and closet! They are NOT human, they are insanely talented.
Thank you for the healing tears. My son was a rapper in the Pacific Northwest, received an award from Sir Mix Alot, song called "Better World" and rap put him under😢
Be sure to check out Come All Ye Faithful. You won’t be disappointed (won’t be disappointed with any of their songs lol). I also recommend checkout their original songs.
If you ever decide to go back to the beginning and watch the start of Pentatonix on The Sing Off season 3, Avi (bass) and Kevin (beatboxer) kill the percussion to the point of blowing the judges away (one judge that fell in love with them was Shawn Stockman). It's worth a watch if you ever decide to check it out, I believe they did 14 songs total.
Like I commented on Black Pegasus's channel, this was my father's favorite Christmas song. He would have celebrated his 85th birthday yesterday on Christmas Eve.
This (and Hallelujah) are early poor PTX. They filmed outdoors because they couldn't afford studio time. Flash forward to Kiss From a Rose to see their modern style. I second the motion on Love Again to see their crazy side and an original. Kirstie had done away with the side smile--a real shame.
This was from 2012; they're all incredibly young. Scott and Kirstin must have been 20; depending on how early in the year they filmed Mitch *may* have been 19, but he was most likely 20 as well (his birthday is in July, but they have to film in summer in order to release at the same time as a November album). Avi must have been 23 and Kevin would probably have been 23, maybe 24 if they were very late filming. We tend to refer to #Pentatonix from this era as "Babytonix." This was a year before they released "Daft Punk," so their publisher was Madison Gate and it's likely that the video was shot by FifGen, the same very creative folks who filmed "Daft Punk." And I would guess that the audio for this was not recorded in a studio but in one of their closets, as it was in "Daft Punk."
If you want nature, setting, and mind-blowing song, listen to their rendition of Amazing Grace! Oh, and everyone watches Kirsty that closely 😶 check out Can You Feel The Love Tonight to officially fall in love with her 😍
When they were on The Sing Off contest before they became famous, the judges were very dismissive toward Kirsten. Now, hopefully, they see just how wrong they were. I always knew she had potential, and she really shines now.
You might want to check out Little Drummer Boy by King and Country - the live performance at the CMAs a while back. I'm completely over LDB bc EVERYONE has a version, but the K&C version is stellar.
BP, please not THE Pentatonix, just Pentatonix or PTX. Kirstie and Mitch, the countertenor, are known as chameleons. May look different in every video.
I actually think Kelvin (the black guy) has a amazing voice, he does need to sing more often, the other members need to learn how to do the sounds too..lol
ua-cam.com/video/sme8N2pzRx8/v-deo.htmlsi=Bdv_OWJXUBTuaWHw Well I think they rocked little drummer boy and definitely made it their own and interesting, it's not my favorite. My all time Is silent night! Here is a live version, link above. You can tell it's live you can watch their mouse you can hear them breathe You can tell it's live you can watch their mouths you can hear them breathe and it's just as amazing. It was a range by You can tell it's live you can watch their mouse you can hear them breathe and it's just as amazing. It was a range by Avi and Kevin. @@Nina9erMy favorite is whichever one I'm paying attention to *right now.*
@KellyMargrave I know about cello, sax, drums, and piano/keyboard. What's the other instrument Kevin plays?
Oh Holy Night... THE most amazing arrangement and performance ever!!!!
Can’t wait for you both to react to their cover of O Holy Night!
The voice Kirstie pours out is the sweetest ear candy and sound there is in existence...
Avi, the beginning soloist lives in a cabin in the mountains of Tennessee.

What no one can warn you about is O Come All Ye Faithful! And their newest mind blowing song, O Holy Night! 😶
And Kiss From a Rose and The Prayer etc… they have so many spectacular moments.
My favorite christmas song and by my favorite group. Happy Holidays all
Avi Kaplan has such a beautiful voice and range. To be able to sing that high and switch to a deep bass is amazing
You should see "Mary Did You Know" that was the first time I ever heard Kevin sing, ( the Black guy)
Please for the feeling of the season….Mary did you Know!!! Incredible ❤
Beautiful song. I tear up everytime ❤️
Love their rendition, first I heard Kevin sing was Amazing Grace-love that one too

Kiss from a rose - Pentatonix (Kevin Olusola)
Don't miss Kiss From A Rose.
It's superlative.
The female singer is Kirstin Maldonado. She changes her look a lot as does Mitch, the countertenor.
The members of #Pentatonix. In this song, in order of first solo, we have:
• The song is begun, quite appropriately, with the sound of drums coming from Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable), beatboxer extraordinaire. Avi's replacement joined in either late 2017 or early 2018 (depending on how you figure it) and has now been with Pentatonix longer than Avi was. You'll see him in all of their newer videos:

You can find the recording with Matt here: ua-cam.com/video/Se0BmDdZuX0/v-deo.html Matt's arrangement of the second verse seems to be designed to show off his full range, which is astonishing. I believe Matt has the largest range of any member of Pentatonix, past or present, though Scott is getting close to matching him.

With these two, go by their voices, not their appearance; their voices don't lie. To be clear: Avi is the *only* member who's left Pentatonix and Matt is the *only* member who joined later.

Absolutely must react to “for King + Country Little Drummer Boy live in Phoenix.”
I have to check it out
They recorded a lot in the early years with just simplicity because they had no money. Daft Punk, which won a grammy was done in one of their kitchens and closet! They are NOT human, they are insanely talented.
His stage name was Un the Rhyme Hustla. It was filmed by Frosty Films 206
Kirsty/Kirstin is married and has a beautiful little girl.
Kirsty like Thirsty, is Spaniard, Italian and Mexican. She labels as Hispanic.
Thank you for the healing tears. My son was a rapper in the Pacific Northwest, received an award from Sir Mix Alot, song called "Better World" and rap put him under😢
Thank you for sharing🙏
Please react to Do you Hear What I Hear from Home Free! You won't be disappointed. Merry Christmas!
I am a Pentaholic as well as Home Fry, Do You Hear What I Hear is by far one of their very best covers. Amazing acoustics.
To get the full experience, go where they started on the Sing Off series. It’s great seeing their singing journey from the beginning.
Her name is Kirstie (nickname for Kirstin), rhymes with "thirsty"
Wow!!! They were fantastic!!!
Be sure to check out Come All Ye Faithful. You won’t be disappointed (won’t be disappointed with any of their songs lol).
I also recommend checkout their original songs.
O they are stunning. Greetings from South Africa
They won a grammy for their Christmas album. And it's amazing that there are no instruments other than their voices. And you don't miss it.
Quick correction: Grammy #2 was for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, not the Christmas album. Still impressive!! 🎄
Please do PTX's "Amazing Grace" Also "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is fabulous.
Mary Did You Know is another song you should check out
Like I commented on Black Pegasus's channel, this was my father's favorite Christmas song. He would have celebrated his 85th birthday yesterday on Christmas Eve.
Happy heavenly bday to your father!!
I love O come all ye Faithful
Merry Christmas everyone!!! ✌️🥃💥
Another great one is Imagine!!🎉
You have to hear this song by Bing Crosby and David Bowie
Please do 'The Prayer' by Pentatonix...tysm
THANKS for this one, KRIZZ!! LOVE their rendition of Mary Did You Know. MERRY CHRISTMAS to YOU & YOUR FAMILY!! HUGS from TEXAS!!!
Merry Christmas 🎁
This is my favorite Christmas song. They do an amazing job with it. My favorite will always be Bob Seeger's version though
You are missing so much by not listening with good headphones, especially the bass notes.
We tend to refer to #Pentatonix from this era as "Babytonix."
This was a year before they released "Daft Punk," so their publisher was Madison Gate and it's likely that the video was shot by FifGen, the same very creative folks who filmed "Daft Punk." And I would guess that the audio for this was not recorded in a studio but in one of their closets, as it was in "Daft Punk."
There’s a really great live performance of this on the Arsenio Hall show
You need to react to “can’t hold us and love again (original)
Merry Christmas brother
Bravo that was wonderful
Your absolute must listens is John Lennon's imagine, Amazing Grace, Mary did You know, and gold, also Bohemian Rhapsody.
You shoud hear God and Country's version of this. You won't believe the drums in this.
Please do The Prayer, thats my favorite Pentatonix song, gorgeous!
If you want nature, setting, and mind-blowing song, listen to their rendition of Amazing Grace!
Oh, and everyone watches Kirsty that closely 😶 check out Can You Feel The Love Tonight to officially fall in love with her 😍
Pentatonix (not "the"), Home Free, and to complete the trilogy - Voice Play. Love them all.
You really must check out the video Mary Did You Know..
When they were on The Sing Off contest before they became famous, the judges were very dismissive toward Kirsten. Now, hopefully, they see just how wrong they were. I always knew she had potential, and she really shines now.
***NATIONAL ANTHEM*** They did the anthem for the NFL footbal game today. On YT.
You have to check out Kevin's 5th with Matt!
❤❤❤
You might want to check out Little Drummer Boy by King and Country - the live performance at the CMAs a while back. I'm completely over LDB bc EVERYONE has a version, but the K&C version is stellar.
You are doing a disservice to your listening pleasure..put headphones on & it is a whole different experience.
Recommend their cover of The Prayer.
Try Say Something where Kevin cello boxes, sings and goes back to celloboxing
Merry Krizzmas
You should do a reaction to Voiceplay, but especially to Sabaton's 1916 and/or Christmas Truce.
BP, please not THE Pentatonix, just Pentatonix or PTX. Kirstie and Mitch, the countertenor, are known as chameleons. May look different in every video.
The name of the group is not The Pentatonix. Drop The. It's simply Pentatonix
You need to react to their cover of Mary Did You Know
Hey Krizz,
Do you have another reaction channel? Cause I see 2 and don't know if one is fake.
Yes I started another one this month 😊
@KrizzKalikoOfficial oh okay, I'll make sure I'm subscribed. Merry Christmas
White Winter hymnal
Kirstin Maldonado, aka Kirstie.
Krizz an Pentatonix should do a callab..
Man I hope you do O Holy Night
Where is this Daft Punk reaction you talk about? I have yet to find it.
I actually think Kelvin (the black guy) has a amazing voice, he does need to sing more often, the other members need to learn how to do the sounds too..lol
Where’s the Daft Punk reaction?!
Too bad you didn't put up a picture with the correct lineup for this iconic performance.
Kevin
Where's the Daft Punk

Well I think they rocked little drummer boy and definitely made it their own and interesting, it's not my favorite.
