CRAZY MONKEY FOREST UBUD BALI - SACRED RABIES? | Indonesia Travel Vlog 139, 2018

- The sacred monkey forest in Ubud Bali is one of the top things to do in Indonesia despite the rabies reports! ⬇ Click 'Show More' ⬇
The Ubud monkey forest is one of the main attractions in Bali, it seems like almost everyone that goes to Ubud (or wants to visit) comes across the monkey forest at some stage. It's known as the sacred forest but the risk is the reports of rabies and monkey bites.
We had to see this for ourselves and make a video - we couldn't leave Bali or Indonesia without experiencing it for ourselves in 2018. To the credit of the Ubud monkey forest it was actually pretty cool and the only people at risk of a bite were the ones dumb enough to get close to the monkeys at risk their own rabies encounters haha.

Ubud is beautiful! It was one of my favorite places in Bali. And the monkeys are cute but crazy at the same time. Thanks for sharing your adventures! -Amelia
We feel the same about those lil buggers, awesome but sort of dangerously fun haha. Thanks for watching Ameliaa :)
Been binge watching your videos. I really love them :)
Yasss - thanks for binging! Glad you're enjoying :)
These kind of thingals are the ones that keeps me going back to Bali over and over again. Couldn't resist it though. Happy travelling guys!
love this vlog guys
Yay finally travel vloggers from NEW ZEALAND! love you guys
Haha that's an awesome comment, thanks Tracey! Everyone just assumes we're Australian... 🙄
On one trip up the Teesta River valley in West Bengal (to visit my in laws) we saw (and captured in a photo) a monkey sitting on a rock by the road side, calmly eating crisps/potato chips out of a bag that he/she had stolen from some unsuspecting person. You did well to steer clear of them but got some great footage, as always! Loved the sunrise shot - there's something magical about sunrise in the tropics :)
Best and amazing videos
Awesome stuff... :)
Good timing, just sat in a cafe about to head there now!
Oh thats crazy! Hope you enjoyed
I’m making my way through your videos and makes notes because my husband and I are coming to Bali (from North Carolina) next month!
I’m skeptical about two things: the monkey forest and transportation 😅
Your content is spot on! Keep up the great work!👍🏻
Why I feel so happy every time I watch your videos?!
We feel happy reading your comment!
Hey guys, what an amazing vlog with the monkeys, great filming.... the door bell and the free treats..... I am trying to work that one out..... I have been to monkey forest, it felt like you where in Indiana jones and the temple of doom an amazing place.... I wasn't sure what the monkeys fascination of butt scratching was but there was a lot of that when I was there..... enjoy your time..... your living the dream....
The door bell thing was referring to our last video, I pressed the bell thinking it was a DND or something but it wasnt! Just being my cheeky self haha. Yeah there was a lot of the ol butt scratching going on for sure, edited some of it out cos theres only so much of that people need to see
You are the best "test dummies" ever..... Great !
God I swear, I almost thought we booked the same villa, until I saw the pool. Haha. Bali's culture is amazing. Not a fan of the monkeys though, but they're certainly cute.
Thanks so much for this video guys! Going in 2 weeks and had the same apprehension as you but now I see it’s not that bad if you behave appropriately 👌
Exactly right! Its a cool place to explore for a few hours, just be smart -unlike everyone else we filmed haha
Enjoyed my visits to the Monkey Forest. Glad it exceeded your expectations. They're a handful at Uluwatu too if you make it there. 😁
yeah one took my cell phone at the Uluwatu temple, lil bugger
About time you finally proposed! How can you let Stacy waited for so long geezzzzz!
Anyways congrats to you and lovely Stacy!
Now back to traveling! When is the Day? Abroad or Australia!
Hahaha it was definitely about time! Had plans in the Philippines but they actually fell through! No idea when the wedding will be, neither of us are in a rush at this point but will definitely be overseas ✈️
Very nice video..I still can't get over Dwaraka...btw, I did my very best to avoid the Monkey Forest because I am very afraid of the monkeys there, otherwise the place is very nice and peaceful, I can see...Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing the next videos!
Well we werent as sketched out as what we thought so maybe its worth having a crack next time to see if you can brave them haha. Thanks for always leaving a great comment as well btw 🤘🏼
Love the honesty in this vlog. They now stopped a lot of the photo opportunities because of attacks, so you guys were right to be cautious
Thanks for that!
Great movie!
Today it is snowstorm outside. And i am 100 days away from moving to Thailand. Thanks for another good vlog. All the best to you.
100 days will go fast!! Excited for you - we're stoked for you 🤙🏼
I love how you do your spread😊! I watch so many monkey videos all the time and I am always amazed how clean they are but you showed me the real deal, they are quite dirty and they have hep c or d or whatever, that's scary!! New sub here can't wait to see what's next
Thanks! Yup, these guys arent some cute cuddly monkeys... they nassssty!
after watching this video reminds me of a tourist interview and it's really fun😭😂😂
Yay ,,,you found the Dragon Bridge at Monkey Forest. We kept going down but couldn't get to the bottom.(back in 2004).
That place is much expanded.
And you have some new music happening.
Congratulations on the Proposal.
Ubud brings out the best in you ,,,,,,
Haha love how observant you are! Trialed some new music in this one and you're the only one to comment!! Loved Ubud, thanks 🙏🏼
I first noticed the new music during a previous vlog ,,,the lead up to the proposal (I think ,,,will check later)
Hey guys, great video! Just a small question: what camera are you using? It's amazing :) Keep up!
Hey Robert Blijenbergh - our camera is here on Amazon- geni.us/ourcamera but you can always check our equipment and full travel gear on our site- danegerandstacey.com/our-equipment/
I wonder about a temp. # and humidity # as text in the bottom corner of a video at some point so we'd know that info? What do you guys think? Great work.
Good thoughts Mark - should share some more details on the weather rather than "its so hot today, ugh!"
Awesome :) just to let you know "Vaikunta" the place where you are staying literally translates to "where the gods live in heaven" in Sanskrit. Undoubtedly this the way i always wanted to live my life. You guys are putting it on screen for me.
Thats interesting! We love the sound of that translation!
That forest in 2003 was literally just an entrance off the main road and just as freaky. Bali lifting its game!! Nice vid guys! We won’t blame you for Panasonic’s autofocus 😉
Just realized the autofocus was last episode. 😞
GH5 is a PITA sometimes haha, we normally just manual focus to bypass the shoddy settings haha
We have these in Manila as well, especially near the train stations and even on jeepneys. They remarkably drive taxis too which is well documented by other youtubers. Love your videos, not only beautifully shot but also informative.
Nice bro....
Nice vide
Whoaaa haha those monkeys ARE pretty crazy. Glad you guys made it out without rabies!
Rabies free is the way to be!
I noticed you guys got into a car. Did you use a car for your transportation or go by scooter? Going to be traveling with a toddler and trying to find the best mode of transport.
Unfortunately, I was bit in the Monkey Forest this year. No fun!
Interestingly, we were both in Ubud at the same time 😉 We probably passed each other at some point haha. The next time you are there, you should visit Bumi Sehat to show the wonderful things that they do for the village, Bali in general, and internationally. It is across the soccer field from Mother. Bumi is a clinic that provides free maternity and birth services for those that live in Bali. Foreigners travel from around the world to birth there as well. They pay only a small fee. Its a very beautiful place to be able to bring a child into this world. The founder , Ibu Robin Lim (who is also one of the midwives) was 2011CNN Hero of the Year. Bumi Sehat works soley off donations.
A wonderful place to stay is Bumi Peace Kitchen. Its actually on Ibu Robins family compound right up the road from Mother. You get traditional Bali living while being taken care of by Robin's beautiful family. Her husband Will is a wonderful cook ❤
Hi what month did you go, im going to Bali in Jan 2022, hopefully & plan to visit the monkey forest
This would've been around Feb / March. Hope you have a great time! Don't forget to hide your sunglasses and water bottle!
I wonder why a small item would cost thousands of rupiah, what can you say about it?
lol.. dont look them in the eye... hilarious ! i am nervous about it but what a cool experience i am guessing and now you live to tell the tale lol and omg 600 !!! wow !!
There's probably 6,000 by now :P Jooookes. You'll be fine, just don't do anything silly and they aren't bothered by you!
What about rabies from the Bali Dogs? It's holding me back from going.
It's not a thing. Been to Bali for half a year or so all up and never really seen that as a problem
Can you tell me if you came across dogs in the monkey park? Im super nerveous about dogs being around the forrest?
Don't think there were any dogs! Be a lot more afraid of the monkeys though, they're crazy
that was amazing...😱
Pretty sure I saw u guys in Canggu today the quiet side of shortcut ??
Nope, not us! We're in New Zealand atm
I’ve been there, Ubud Monkey Forest. If yougo there make sure don’t bring food. They can smell it even if you put it in you bag!
Yup! They can smell it anywhere you have it haha
Guys, where to book this vaikunta villa, can't find it anywhere😱?! Thank you😊
No idea what Vaikunta villa is sorry?? Where did you see that?
Love your way
Amazingnggggg ,
Hey daneger, do you film in 25 or 24p?
Neither - film in 60 FPS and upload in 60 as well, helps with that crisp look
oh... and my wife was wondering if you could talk about the mosquito issue in the different places you have been. Did you get immunized for anything or/and what kind of repellent do you use - if you use one? Our flight to Chiang Mai is at the end of August and we'll be there for over six months to a year. We will visit Cambodia and Vietnam too, to try and find a full time place to call home.
My doc recommended immunizations for hep A and B as well as typhoid. I tried all natural remedies and nothing worked.... Bring something from home, 30% deet. All 7-11s in Thailand seemed to carry this awesome mosquito repellent, it was 30% deet. Totally needed, BC mosquitos love me!!!
Thailand is a hot, humid place with tons of still water. You'd better prepare for the mosquitos. They're EVERYWHERE
Stacey being open to rabies is hilarious! I paid for the entrance fee at that place and turned back the moment I first saw a monkey. Unlike Stacey, I am not open to rabies. HAHAHA!
Cool
Do you know what the name of the cafe was?
I filmed the sign for you in the video :) It's called Milk and Madu
Bali is paradise
Your eyes are amz
What is the name of the Villa?
It's this one man: ua-cam.com/video/NBdcm4FpSAk/v-deo.html
Did you guys follow the rule of not making eye contact with the monkeys? I would be extremely apprehensive as well! lol Its a beautiful place BUT Hahahaaa 😎✌🏽
We lived on the edge a liiiiitle, snuck a few eye contact situations to see how dangerous it really is haha.
Cheeky buggers!
Are you using a gimbal?
Nope - just a really socially awkward walk to keep it stable haha
they've built quite a lot since my first visit there in 2008.
Bet it looks completely different now!!
The dragon bridge and retaining walls still look the same. The entrance looks quite different. I'll be taking my wife and daughter there some time in the next few years.
That will be a crazy experience for you going back after so long! Just dont look the 🐒's in the eye haha
My wife grew up in Da Nang. We're in Salt Lake City now and plan to retire in Vietnam, hopefully in ricefield country within a couple miles of the coast, somewhere between Hoi An and Da Nang. Remember where all those graveyards are? That's about 9 years down the road. I'm thinking Bali for October-November when the rain is at it's worst in central VN.
Anyway, I really enjoy seeing all your videos, keep them coming!
Yup know exactly where you’re talking about. Although there is LOADS of construction and enormous resorts going up around there. Lots of unhappy people! Sure you guys will find it already have a great spot sorted though 👌🏼
can i bring my tripod for my camera to take photos?
i mean, do you think ill get surrounded for a silver long looking stick? lol
Wouldnt recommend that - anything unattended they will grab
Dang.... By a minute...
Leighton Butler sorry the other ninja master is back
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
i watched this in 2021
And we replied in 2021 🎈

Monkey forest stuff starts at 4:00 - Your welcome
Haha winning the internet Phil
The death of me! :(
If you all think this is bad enough, you are all wrong hahaha. Wait till you all go to uluwatu temple. 😂😂
Oh really? Haha thats interesting - will have to check it out next time .
Yes they will take your loose items and run away. Sunglasses are their favourites! You have to ask the locals to help you get it back for a ransom which is food. 😂😂😂
This monkeys if you stare at them they will take it as a challenge. If you smile at them with your teeth showing, they will take it that you are aggressive and will attack. LOL
Monkeys = Bad News. They can be vicious and you have no defenses against an aggressive wild animal. Best to steer clear and protect yourself and your belongings. In all honesty, the little beasts seem like bad humans reincarnated. Went one time to the monkey forest back in the 80's and that was enough. Same shenanigans when visiting the Uluwatu temple. A total distraction.
Haha so accurate. They're nasty lil things at times
Been very busy lately but never too busy to watch your vlogs.
Thanks for always checking in :) Hope everythings well and your travels are going great 🙏🏼
