Just rewatched this - you make so many good points in this one! Like - you don't have to be an expert, camp when you are able (not just when conditions are perfect), etc.
I'm starting to find my footing a little better as a camper and UA-camr, and figuring out what to make this channel about. With so many experts putting out videos, I thought it was time for an amateur to try. I learned a lot on my last trip, mostly the COLD SUCKS haha. It was still fun
👍 nice video - I like how you show the ups and downs of overland camping. Really like your shots of your rig in motion - I need to work on those in my vids. I do them a little but yours are really good.
Thank you!!! I'm learning something new every time I go out. Having a tripod makes the motion shots a lot easier. Getting in and out of the truck isn't always fun (until you edit) but it's necessary.
Do have someone I know that owns property off the blue ridge pkwy south of 64. In the middle of state park. Weird. He has been trying to get power to a house hes build for almost 3 years now.
Yes it is!! Skidmore Fork Rd. The only problem with this site is how far down it is. It's about 30 minutes past the closest campsite there on a pretty narrow road. If someone is already staying there you have another 30 minute drive back to get to other campsites. It also gets pretty overgrown in the summer which makes you lose out on a lot of space that you have in the winter, but it is still worth it.
@@AccidentalOverlander We actually found it and set up camp for a night on our way from Louisiana to Pennsylvania. Nice spot. Ashame all the trash that gets thrown out at the skidmore reservoir up the road though..
@umustbbornagainActs2-38 awesome!!! When the stream is flowing it is so nice. The Forrest stays "fairly" clean but the campsite before just passed the stream gets a lot of bad stayers. It's a site I would love to stay at and be able to hike up the mountain, unfortunately most of the people that stay there are just partying without cleaning up. But at least they don't want to drive all the way down the road to mess up the other one.
Are these roads passable in a car (when it's not recently rained)? Or is dispersed camping something that requires a jeep or other vehicle with 4 wheel drive?
The amazing site I found it kind of hard to get to. If you are going to the beginning of Switzer Lake road there's a lot of camp spots and a car can certainly get through. We've had friends make it there in a Volkswagen Gulf. Which was pretty impressive.
@@AccidentalOverlander I’m so sorry man I’ll try but I don’t have many social media accounts I think I have an old Facebook but I will check. Thank you very much and god bless.
Live in chesapeake. Just got back from Staunton river state park. Like the videos! Keep on keepin on!
We live pretty close then. How was that state park? Did you do any camping?
@@AccidentalOverlander yes - I do truck tent camping. Park was great. On the national registry for star gazing.
Going to north bend campgrounds middle of may. Never been but it is right on water. 2.5 hrs away
@@jasonfitzgibbons1412 it looked beautiful when I looked it up
@@jasonfitzgibbons1412 sounds fun. Have a great trip

A lot of private land inside national forests. But yeah, they typically were there prior to the nat forest surrounding them.
Got it. This guy has a great setup with huge cabin too. I'm just a little jealous lol.

That sounds pretty cool. I can't imagine how difficult it is to get any kind of construction going on in all those mountains
Is this spot off of a forest service road?

Can you somehow send me a pin as to where that spot was ?
@ronaldlongfellow87 if you message me on IG I can help you out better.
