i'm in this video @ 3:21 :) was a pretty life-changing show for 17 year old me. i ran into jim o rourke at a record store a few weeks later and was he was kind enough to educate me about john fahey for a long while.
John McEntire always has this look like he knows how awesome the next 5 Tortoise records in the future are, but they haven't even come out yet so he's just going to look pissed cause' he can see it before you can.
This rules. Love how they seem to simultaneously antagonize and egg each other on. This is the closest I'll get to ever see them live (since they're no more, of course). On my chance to see them I was too young to get into the club all those years ago in Chicago. Their albums were ear-opening.

They were out already. They released their debut on June 22, 1994.
@@adrianjohnson2287 by they I mean the next Tortoise records to come. It's a joke. Love a good explanation?

This is so awesome! It's the sound I had in my head in the 80's and 90's but couldn't pull out...I'm glad they did!!!!
If you like this, check out the live footage of Grubbs' and McEntire's previous band, Bastro.
Bastro was God.
Drummer's thousand yard stare
it's a Stereolab shirt nicknamed "Cliff". I forget why, but I used to print them for the band.
Chicago killing it
This version was supposed to be featured in "We have dozens of titles"!

Technically this is fantastic independent of the effect it overall has. Could listen to it 100 straight times just to understand certain parts.
