I'm ashamed to say, I'd forgotten this one. What with Gene Watson's incredible voice and talent, it's hard to believe one could forget any of his songs. Thanks to both you and @piglyglyn for restoring a memory. I've found that 80 year old memories are anything but infallible.
Another one of my favorites by Gene. My God what a voice! While you’re on Gene Watson, PLEASE check out the video of him singing “you gave me a mountain” live- if it doesn’t bring you to tears, you aren’t listening!
Also "Paper Rosie" or "Love on a hot afternoon" or, many of the other great songs by Gene Watson. I recall growing up with the music of Gene, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Hank Snow, Charlie Pride and many other greats. Thanks for the ride back,
Saw it coming just before the question to the waitress, but what a great song! Makes me recall going to Preservation Hall in New Orleans back in the 1970’s. I’m sure most of the guys I heard are gone now. Thankfully, others come along and carry on the tradition. As we ourselves get older, we still look fondly back on the “good old days.” Thanks, P.J. Loved it!
I do not recall ever hearing this song before. But from this point on, if anyone asked me what my favorite Gene Watson song is, I know what I will answer.
Chalk me as up as another one who had never heard this. I saw the twist coming, it'a a bit of an established lyrical trope, maybe even cliché, by now, not sure who did it first. Solid story telling, I really don't know Gene Watson much at all.
What a great song!! I really loved it. Thank you so much for more great music - country style! God bless you.
@pamalaalford1081
Thank you too!
I don't know if this is country, but with Gene's voice, he could have found a place singing any type of music.
KNEW you would like this one. We were sitting right there with him, listening to that old man.
@tallestmountain
Vivid!

Thank you, you wre right.
There is another Gene Watson song written by Dallas Harms. Cowboys Don’t Get Lucky All The Time. A little more up tempo beat.

I'm finding it hard to think of a song by Gene that I don't like
I’ve never heard one yet.
Really different and unique voice.
