I want to be a Firefighter because: At 1:46 p.m. on Saturday March 27, in North Vancouver BC, I was walking over to the North Vancouver District Public Library to check in on my sister who was getting some homework done with a friend. As I turn the corner of our neighborhood I come face to face with mass chaos. I saw multiple people with head wounds and punctures in the face and neck, before I could think of what was going on I heard sirens. The North Vancouver District Fire department is about 3 blocks away so it did not take long for two engines to arrive on scene. Police showed up a few seconds later and that's when I notice them all screaming at a man to "GET ON THE GROUND!" he stabbed himself in the leg several times and then collapsed, the police rushed in and kicked the knife out of his reach, while keeping guns aimed at him. Meanwhile the firefighters were helping people by administering first aid and getting people to stable places for treatment. ambulances arrived and started taking over. I suddenly woke up from my shock and remembered that my sister was somewhere here! By this time crowds of people had gathered across the street and were staring in shock at the whole avenue crammed with flashing emergency vehicles. I pushed my way across the crowded street. by this time the police had set a perimeter around the whole area, and no cars were driving through the road. I found my sister with her friend on the other side of the road, she was just standing there looking a little lost. I stayed to watch the firefighters work and I found it so inspiring how they could hold together during times of panic, they helped person after person until the paramedics had it under control. They gathered their gear and left about 45 minutes after the stabbing. I remember looking around at all the flashing lights and shocked people wondering how this could be happening. 7 people were stabbed and attacked and 1 person died later in the hospital. after that day I couldn't help but think: "Maybe if I were on that team of first responders, maybe if I were a Firefighter I could have helped my team out, and in the end maybe that person wouldn't have died". From then on it has been my soul goal to become a firefighter and save lives with my team. I am 15 now and I will do all I have to, to one day be a firefighter.
The reason I wanna join is, firefighters are a fit group of individuals and have to train to be the top of their game or people can die. Having that sense of responsibility, and commitment is what I have longed for.
A year ago I was on vocation in Myrtle beach. The resort where we stayed for the week had a pool where many people spent a lot of the time there. An elderly lady slipped and gashed her head and the EMS was called which was ran out of the local fire department. I stayed with the lady and helped her the best I could until EMS arrived and took it over from there. I stood there watching as the EMS helped her and was hooked from then on. I wanted to be a fireman from that point. Since then I can’t stop thinking about wanting to join. Also, my name is Taylor. ;)
Hello sir, thank you for all of the helpful uploads. I was wondering if you had the time to critique my answer for this question. It’s my most honest answer but I’m not sure if it’s good enough. “ What made me decide that I wanted to be a firefighter is while I was working in the grocery business after high school, I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Because I interacted with customers on a daily basis, I would always get to know them and ask about their careers. Almost everyone I talked to would never seen passionate or excited about that they did for a living. The exception to this is when on or off duty firefighters and even retired firefighters would come in to the store to shop and I would talk to them. They were always so passionate about what they did for a living and are always very respectful to everyone in the store. Seeing them interact with the community and representing their profession in such an enthusiastic way made me want to play such a role in my community, giving me fulfillment in what I do” Hopefully you see this, thank you and keep up the good work on the channel.
Finished my interview/physical and written exam in SC this week. Just wanted to express how helpful this channel was to help me prepare for everything. Thank you!
I'll suggest to give an answer to the question - back to yourself. The answer you'd want to hear, if YOU asked someone else the question. If that makes sense. What answer would resonate with you from someone like you, if you asked them? Keep it simple, but give them something with some meat on the bone. I had an instructor years ago in the FF Service, who told us in a training session "If you are going to tell me that you are here to give back to your community and blah blah blah - STOP right there. You want to do this to drive down the road in a big red shiny truck with lights and sirens wailing, and wave at your neighbors, saying 'look at me' ". Well, I can't argue with that. I take that to say he'd much more prefer an answer such as "hey, I love the adrenaline and rush I get from the unknown". Something like that. Have an answer that reflects your deep rooted emotions to the FF Service.
The reason why I want to become a Firefighter is because I was in a tough spot, and God had a friend wrap her arms around me one day and just give me a hug. If she didn't do that, I might not be here today. So I prayed to God to use me, to give his sons and daughters a second chance threw me just like he gave me a second chance though one of his daughters. It is a true story, but is that something that I can answer for why I want to become a Firefighter and Paramedic?
After getting burned a week and a half after I turned 18 and having a mom that is on drugs and watching her spiral down a bad road, I wanted to help not just her but every one on their worst times because everyone deserves that. Is this a generic sounding answer?
Interviewer: Why do you want to join the fire service? Interviewee: I want to join the fire service to get the uniform. My wife and I are into role play 😏
Hey man I hope you give me a reply to this I've been watching your videos for 6 months now an had applied to my local volunteer department a month ago. Right around Christmas now I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone up there so I figured im just gonna show up to there cpr training Jan 11th and see what they say. Any advice?
Hey man, I don’t know if I would show up to a training, but it would certainly be a good idea to show up during “business hours” when you know a chief or someone else would be there.
@@mike_pertz My son and I hadn't gotten a reply to our online inquirey, so one day we saw the rescue roll past our house. We went to the station then, figuring someone was going to be around. Helped to wipe down the truck when they got back. My trustee interview is tonight. :)
Hey Mike, I was wondering is there any way to reach out to you perhaps instagram or WhatsApp. I am in the process of becoming a firefighter and your videos are extremely helpful I would say the best information on UA-cam. Please let me know I would extremely appreciate it. Thank you Adam

You're very well written for a 15 year old. Better than a lot of adults even.

That's your answer there. It's something you've had a passion for since you were a kid.

not really
Not exactly but I imagine you can include it as one of the reason
Do you have any vids on what to expect on the chiefs oral?
Not yet, but those will be coming soon too
I've got three reasons and not one of them is because of the money...

Could they ask this question as the first question (your “opening statement”)?
Easy: The bunker bunnies.
I want to be a firefighter because Jesus called us to live like him and be able to lay down our lives for other
