I swear that this woman is a pure genius, she is a singer with the most flexible voice ever but she is also a musician, her improvisations are breathtaking, her voice is so powerful and tender at the same time, so delicate, she is the tiny flower and she is the forest I am never tired of Ella Fitzgerald 😊
+José Thomaz There are many more reasons: Arrigo Barnabé, Jards Macalé, Itamar Assumpção, Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Gal Costa, Pixinguinha, Almir Sater, Elis Regina, Chico Buarque, João Gilberto, Naná Vasconcelos, Chico Science, Gilberto Gil... I'm very proud to be Brazilian.
This performance is a wonderful vignette into the masterful control that Ella has over her voice. Every sound is so unique, and the use of her mouth and voice to give different effects is impressive. Plus you get to hear her melodic improvisation, which is lots of fun to listen to! Through the to hours and hours of Ella I've listened to, this performance will always go down as one of the most memorable. I love you Ella! Thank you for the amazing music you've gifted this world with!!
yes and the song Them There Eyes live in Paris is just as incredible in terms of improvisation!! Absolutely love her voice and funny/lighthearted presence
Her vocal range, her incredible ability to make her voice do anything she wanted it to do reminds me of great organists and violinists, she was incomparable. A total musician. Thanks for this I hadn't heard it before. Loved Ella and Tom for more years than I really want to tabulate.
+Sheila Gutowski Still this song DOESN'T WANT OR REQUIRE any particular ability, that's the secret of the success, after all it is called Samba of only one note. Wasted talent, she sung it just because the bossa nova was hot then, but she didn't inprove anything.
lorenzo magazzeni so you sing this also? Same voice range and perfect timing of Ella scatt same crescendo and relief of song? How would you improve it? I'm curious. Can you load up your version on UA-cam id like to hear it.
+The Cats In The Kitchen You are so Right. Ella was the Greatest Here she was way past her prime, but Still, listen how Skilled she is, absolutely Incredible!
lorenzo magazzeni ummm.... your ignorance should be embarrassing you. The bridge of this tune is actually somewhat difficult to sing, even straight as written. Ella took this ditty and played with it in a way that is pure fun, pure Ella, and what's more pure jazz. The artistry in the music is in the interplay between the one note and the chord that changes under it EVERY bar. In order to do a scat like this you have to be intimately connected with the harmony.
i just keep watching this video over and over again. her mind was truly beautiful to just be able to COME UP with these melodies on the spot. forever grateful for this woman
I love them both. Lately I have been listening deeply to all the old music, the old musicians and singers and hearing the real messages that they are sharing with us. This is simply amazing and makes me smile so much.
+Vinícius Dórea Vinícius, there is another idea that we take our experiences with us after our death. Not only have we left a mark on the world, but more importantly we grew into more of a person than we were, and that will never change, or just become greater. There really is no death. Just give it another thought... ;)
I love it! She doesn’t even need to know the lyrics. She just starts singing and totally nails it. It’s awesome!!! And the way Joe follows her is incredible. Amazing!!!
Ella. You are marked out from every other singer. You were a MUSICIAN. And an excellent one. Your instrument was your voice, and you played it and made quicker musical choices than another mortal mind. You will forever be celebrated, and more and more, with each decade that passes and we realise exactly how *RARE* your gift was.
All the things I wanted to say about this great lady and treasure. What I wouldn't give to have met her, let alone touch while she sings. She seems to sing so effortlessly. The greatest singer that God ever gave us, WE NEED MORE ELLA IN 2022 AND BEYOND!
There are no words or not enough the describe this gracious lady's soul and voice. So many of us could take lessons from Ella on how to behave. Rest easy you sweet angel. Wouldn't you have loved to tour with her and hear her sing and see in person how she brought such style, grace and beauty to the world. Ella, you were and are truly one of greatest wonders of the world.
I remember the commercial for an audio tape product where Ella hit a note that broke a glass goblet, and then they replayed her voice off the tape and the same thing happened. What vocal power!
Saw Joe Pass, and saw Ella, separately. But I saw no one live more than this gift from the universe. A son once begged me to play something other than ella on the car's cd!
Wonderful Ella..a completely perfect voice..in the 60s family went to see her in London live....with wonderful Oscar Patterson quartet .the most perfect evening...more than seeing any other star she was unique.. ..
That guitar player looks as though every second he has worked to master his craft was all meant for THIS moment. He can go home and die happy and content having fulfilled his lifes mission
@@skepticalmechanic So what? Many famous and influential peopel are dead. But any man with decent knowledge learn about them. And doing their legacy. That's why also, we have history lessons. So we can learn about civilizations. Or one could never call him/herself, as civilized enough.
Taxidermistification I try. I am no Ella though. I actually performed "You'll Have To Swing It" this past May and got GREAT reviews because of my scatting. I still practice A LOT. So to truly answer your question, yes I can. LOLOL
I was lucky enough to see and hear both of them, Jo and Ella together and or not on stage on Paris and also once with Oscar Peterson on top ! Fabulous moments in my soul and ears for ever

Sounding Fantastic and looking just as good, Ella's melodic and scatting interpretive abilities are remarkable. I thought maybe Sarah Vaughan might match Ella and even checked out some of Sassy's scatting videos here on UA-cam. No way. Ella is STILL Unmatched !

Ella's "Million note samba" - love it!!! 💕🙏⭐
Tom Jobim is one of the reasons why I'm proud to be Brazilian.
José Thomaz joão gilberto,
+Claudio Natureza el tema es de Tom Jobim

+José Thomaz One of my favourite songs to play on guitar, love the chord sequence. A great workout too. That is Joe Pass too!
***** Oh yeah, he was probably superior to all names I mentioned above, in terms of music.
I don't know when I'll be able to pick my jaw up off the floor. I've watched and listened 3 times...so far. 😮

It’s channeled, flow state, her mind stays out of it
They will NEVER have another like Ella.
Not ever.
Bobby McFerrin
Ella, The best EVER!
They broke the mold after they made Ella and Joe.
Nope
I love them both. Lately I have been listening deeply to all the old music, the old musicians and singers and hearing the real messages that they are sharing with us. This is simply amazing and makes me smile so much.
They are both dead. Isn't it scary? All this knowledge, beauty and passion is over. Thanks to technology that allow us to still watch it. Beautiful!!!
No
So you don't think that's scary? Talk about it man. I think the idea of not being here after we do some great stuff like this is mind blowing
yeeees.. thanks youtube

Her pitch is perfect! She is one of my all time favorite singer performers. Just freaking love Ella!
Oh man...I love Ella Fitzgerald so much! She is just one of the people that I wish I would have had the opportunity to see live.
I love it! She doesn’t even need to know the lyrics. She just starts singing and totally nails it. It’s awesome!!! And the way Joe follows her is incredible. Amazing!!!
Once more I say, "Ella, ..........proof that Voice is an instrument."
ABSOLUTELY!!
Exacto.
My sentiment exactly

Une génie du jazz,sa voix est vraiment unique ! Merci Ella ❤
Joe and Ella. God and Goddess made manifest. Thank you Rudolf.
Ella sang in a language that most understand ... some do not. We were blessed with this gal.
MrJazzohjazz from Shakespeare:" the man that hath no music in his soul is fit for treasons, strategems and spoils. That .man is never to be trusted."

moesha pempengco yes that dress gave me liffeeee
She takes on the countless possibilities this remarkable composition offers -- and hits virtually all of them. Pure genius.
2 jazz legends...just vibing!!!
0:33 the lick!
I remember the commercial for an audio tape product where Ella hit a note that broke a glass goblet, and then they replayed her voice off the tape and the same thing happened.
What vocal power!
Yes, is it "memorex" or is it live? I remember that commercial too.
It is not only the power but sustaining the exact resonance frequency of the goblet.
Saw Joe Pass, and saw Ella, separately. But I saw no one live more than this gift from the universe. A son once begged me to play something other than ella on the car's cd!
Wonderful Ella..a completely perfect voice..in the 60s family went to see her in London live....with wonderful Oscar Patterson quartet .the most perfect evening...more than seeing any other star she was unique.. ..
Jealous!!! To see Ella with the Oscar Peterson quartet must have been something else!
That guitar player looks as though every second he has worked to master his craft was all meant for THIS moment. He can go home and die happy and content having fulfilled his lifes mission
You mean, you DON'T KNOW Joe Pass?? The guitar master?
He’s dead
@@skepticalmechanic So what?

i love the voice skill
make me tears and smile at once
My grandfather introduced me to her music when I was about 7,8 or 9. He played "Smooth Sailing" and I wanted to scat every since. Lol
+Lottalox Can you scat?
Taxidermistification I try. I am no Ella though. I actually performed "You'll Have To Swing It" this past May and got GREAT reviews because of my scatting. I still practice A LOT. So to truly answer your question, yes I can. LOLOL
The lady had class...just superb......Greetings from Ireland

wow amazing, she spoke in music & i got it🙆!!
It doesn't get any better than this.
No it does not!
There is no way you can express your admiration of this but to smile and breathe hard.
Best voice ever. Even Maria Callas would have admited it.
3:04 is pure shivering
This is priceless, the fabulous Joe Pass, and the never to be replaced Miss Ella
Ella singing A train in Berlin was my favourite. Wonderful live performance.
It is just amazing how she can create good musuc without words! Bravo!

Her voice is another musical instrument!
Saw them both together in concert with Oscar Peterson and Count Basie in Seattle in 1980!
I would die to see that
OMG Ella AND Joe Pass, never seen this. This made my day. Thanks for posting this!
Thanks so much for posting this amazing performance.
I saw Ella with Joe Pass in the casino in Ostend (Belgium). I was 16 years old. I became from both their signature on a LP . Unforgetabel moment....
Amazing how she matches her voice to the guitar. Usually, her scat is a horn, but much of it here is strummed.
o bossa nova e o samba foram o grande legado que o Brasil deixou na música concerteza 🙏
The title of this video should be Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass "One Note Samba."
Yes! ♡
Agree.
this is version is mostly great because of Joe pass
My thought exactly !
I agree !
Vraiment magique ce duo Ella Fitzgerald et Tom Jobim ...j'adore ! ! !

WOOOOOOOW The Lady of Sound.. love her.
this song hard asf
Absolutely incredible performance!
This is just a little samba
Built upon a single note
Other notes are bound to follow
But the root is still that note
Now this new note is the consequence
Of the one we've just been through
As I'm bound to be
The unavoidable consequence of you
There's so many people
Who can talk and talk, and talk
And just say nothing
Or nearly nothing
I have used up all the scale
I know and at the end
I've come to nothing
I mean nothing
So I come back to my first note
As I come back to you
I will pour into that one note
All the love I feel for you
Any one who wants the whole show
Re mi fa so la ci do
He will find himself with no show
Better play the note you know
So I come back to my first note
I must come back to you
I will pour into that one note
All the love I feel for you
Any one who wants the whole show
Re mi fa so la ci do
He will find himself with no show
Better play the note you know
Increible la musica de jonim y elst de sarsh vaughan

Joe and Ella with more notes than One Note Samba.
Oh maravilhosa! Bossa nova, meu amor!
Nobody beside her Ella was the greatest of Them all!
Ella Fitzgerald would never be defined as "singer". That's not a singer! It's an angel.
The Genius of the one and only Ella Fitzgerald !
danke fürs posten!grüße aus cologne peter weitz
No words, pure musicians scary good
É uma pérola! Obrigada pela postagem!
Fully clothed, no twerking, no gyrating, no plastic surgery. Today's female artists could learn a thing or two from Ms. Ella
I love this duet...
She’s a Marvellous singer
This rendition must have inspired so many singers and guitarists!
