This was a great video. It's cool to see each bug and before and after the fix. I bet the developers who fixed these bugs are really happy that someone noticed their work. Thanks for giving it the spotlight!
19:14 The reason for this particular instance that you can't get closer to Triet is because the skit that comes after you get off is actually mandatory. For some reason the game was probably coded for the skit to activate only when you're on foot (I guess they didn't expect you to find the guidepost monument yet lol) but you can't move past that point until you finish the skit
“You can see that part where Lloyd is fading into two Lloyds…” Lloyd: “Farewell my shadow, you who stand at the end of the path I chose not to follow.”
8:00 About the lose voiced dialogue, I'm gonna take a huge shot in the dark with this. All the remasters of Symphonia is based off the Japanese PS2 version so I'm guessing that the script was updated from the Gamecube japanese script which is why Remiel has less text box. And if Vesperia Remastered is to go by, then Bandai Namco reused the audio from the Gamecube english which is why it sounds off.
All of the text boxes in the game are instanced (and sized) based on the PS2 version's Japanese text, but the script files were partially copy/pasted over from the GCN English version. In several instances the GCN English script is either longer than what it was in Japanese, or there are pauses in place. The team that localized the GCN English version 20 years ago were given the liberty to add extra text boxes to make up for this, but obviously since this game is not based off of that one, those extra text boxes are no longer there. Definitely one of the most egregious of them is Remiel's speech in the Temple of Martel that GVG showed. There was a whole extra text box in the GCN version, with accompanying audio, in which Remiel tells Colette to "Visit the Seal of Fire to the South, and offer her prayers in that distant land.". That text box didn't exist in the PS2 version, so when the GCN English data was pasted in, that text and audio was all truncated because there was no text box for it to be attached to. It's also possible that the text wasn't even pasted in, it was manually copied. The evidence of this is that in a small handful of places there is leftover scripting code. A particular one I recall is there's a line during the third visit to the Tower of Salvation, after Zelos's heel turn, where Presea asks if a teleportation platform is still operational, and there's a "/f" at the end of a line.
9:03 In all honesty, the obviously missing dialogue here is a dealbreaker for me. Why wouldn't the remaster devs restore it, and what justification for leaving it out could exist that would make it possible to still trust them?
It's not a justification but the reason is that it's based on the PS2 version (same as ps3 and pc) and the PS2 had less text boxes in that scene and I believe another one as well, due to Japanese taking up less space. Apparently, restoring that would take a good amount of work due to them VERY LIKELY not having the source code of the game
30fps aside I’m still pissed they haven’t fixed most of the missing graphical effects or lowered world map. World map is infuriating in every version that isn’t the GameCube since it’s glued to the floor so many times.

I was thinking about grabbing the remaster and restarting it, especially since I've heard a lot of bad things about the sequel. This overview has certainly helped me decide.
I recently played the pc port of this game and noticed there was weird stutter when colliding with walls. Now today I saw a broadcast on psn (not sure what the date was) but that weird stutter was still there. I don't think it was frame rate just a weird collision issue? Is this still in the remastered version? I don't remember this in the gamecube version. Great video. I saw Symphonia on sale on ps4, so might get that. But awesome to see the Switch version improving. I wish Namco would give us a port of Tales of Abyss.
Symphonia deserved a better remaster than this, i still argue the ps3 version is better and you get the sequel. (I know its hated but its still ok game).
So fucking dumb how a 19 year old game’s original release had less bugs and problems than its “remastered” version. How hard is it just to port the original and up res the resolution, jfc.
Unfortunately, keeping source code after development wasn’t a common practice till the PS3/360 era especially with Japanese devs. Bluepoint was the best company at handling remasters from that era. They grabbed retail PS2 discs and reverse engineered for flawless remasters. Probably much more expensive tho
I wish they would restore the missing content from the first meeting with Remiel in the beginning of the game and get it to run at 60fps. Sad that they lost some data when porting to the PS2
@@JIreland1992 nope! All dialogue existed on the original GameCube version… the missing dialogue existed way back on the Japanese PlayStation 2 that had more content.
I get the impression that Hideo Baba resents that Nintendo helped make Tales of Symphonia the most well-liked game in the series, and is begrudgingly fixing this game at the slowest pace he can that'd avoid also damaging the reputations of everyone else at bamco. Im almost done with my platinum trophy for the PS4/5 version and while that version doesn’t have nearly as many issues as the Switch one, Symphonia really deserved better. When I go back and look at my playthrough of GC Symphonia I’m amazed how smooth the game looks, the battles in particular look so much better (which is absurd). Im terrified that if Namco decide to port (remaster) Tales of the Abyss, they will do something similar and base it off from the stupid 3DS version which also was capped at 30fps (similar to how Symphonia PS2 was). However, unlike Symphonia, Abyss 3DS didn’t get any extra content so….maybe there is a chance. Either way it says a lot when I actually don’t feel that we can trust the developers of games like this because they seemingly rush things out. Interesting to see how the Switch version has been kinda fixed though. That transition into battles is still way too bright. I’ve literally only had 1 crash on PS4 (game randomly froze in Ymir Forest when I moved from one screen to another, never happened again) and I’m on my 5th run through the game.
Ill get it for the xbox soon. its now on sale. thanks for this video cause i wanted to see if the updates have been doing something to improve the game.
The Long mode mistranslation is particularly funny if you're a programmer, because it suggests that it unlocked the ability for the game to run in 64-bit mode on an x86_64 CPU. And the Switch has an ARM-based processor, so that doesn't even make sense.
Hmm, this is odd, i just started playing 2 nights ago yet I haven't seen to have got the latest patch on Switch. As i definitely don't have the battle transitions an do have black skits and menu screens. Strange as I have auto update set, I guess I will just have to force it to find it.
The reason why Remiel’s dialogue was changed was to get rid of any sort of religious speak, all of his dialogues about Heaven and ascending to the gods have been taken out and will not come back for that reason
The last tales game I played and was really worth the hype was xillia 1. I just loved the idea of your party members teaming up in battle like that. But my favorite has to be vesperia. I love the stories of ToG, ToS, ToA, but vesperia just feels good to play, like a proper sequel to Abyss and Symphonia, even if i like the narrative of a couple others better, Yuri carries.
At this point, you might as well just track down the Gamecube or PS3 versions and play those instead. I bet even those retro handhelds that can emulate Gamecube games run it better.
I'm playing through Tales of Berseria right now on my PS5 while playing through this on the Switch when I’m on the go. It’s just incredible to me the difference between the 2, in Berseria’s favor. They’re both great games of course, but I’m currently 46 hours into Berseria - can’t think of 1 glitch I’ve ran into. The games it’s flaws of course, but it’s technically very sound. I’m about an hour into this, the game has already crashed, 30 fps, camera issues as was shown in the video, weird pauses and load times. Again, both are great games, but man…this still deserves better. I’m actively hunting for a way to play the original since I don’t have a GameCube anymore. That’s how poor it is. That shouldn’t happen with a “remaster”.
After the remastered which I never got all these bugs but. I got the gamecube version cheap and I still have my Gamecune in good condition and honestly while the extra content is cool on the new version the gamecube one was fantastic better graphics no missing dialogues I never cared about fps but 60 was pretty fun The only reason I still play the new ones are for content but if they didnt have that then Gamecube all the way plus Gamecube in game at the triet base already gives it more points for CUTE lol
This game deserves a full remake. Imagine Symphonia but it plays and looks like Xillia or Arise. Hell I’d even take it running and looking like Vesperia. This….this just is not the way. The legacy of this game deserves better. 😢

@@The_Princess_of_Kabukicho if the dialog has subtitles I'll likely not notice since it's my first time through. Still very silly if they just didn't put in the voices.
How bad is the hp glitch?? Cause that's that's turn off if saving just like slowly chips health away killing me slowly
@@The_Princess_of_Kabukicho thank you
This is an incredible way of going over the notes. Thank you! (Gamecube still best ♥)
I keep hoping for a Tales of Arise-styled ToS remake one day. One day™
You could do a video like this on Sonic Origins as well. The newest update fixed most everything
Daniel’s Tales of Symphonia crusade is best anime of 2023.
Still haven't fixed the cel shading. Guess I'm sticking to Gamecube, lol
Did they patch out looping menu music? 😅
9:04 Is it really that hard to combine both of those lines into one textbox?
to this versions credit EVERY version of Symphonia after Gamecube lost that dialogue scene with Remial I'm guessing the original audio file got corrupted or something but don't blame Remastered for that it was always an issue
Long range mode is now available in Triet desert was the original dialogue...
Yeah I was thinking about grabbing this while it's on sale for the moment, I have the Symphonia collection on PS3 still and I played a good bit of it years ago but never finished the first.
This might sound like something pedantic to complain about but it's really not because I just annoys you every 5 seconds
Now the bug is in hima when You have to talk to pietro and Sophia this npc stuck in the Windows
Still waiting for 60fps fix before I buy it, which sucks cause I loved this game growing up
Small W for Bamco for actually caring about a port after it's release
Big L for them for not coming out with this when they ported it!
Mega Big L for not doing more fixes even after 3 months lmao.
Very good video bro. Gave me the stuff I wanted to know. Thank you.
Lloyd's voice sounds like Robin from Teen Titans
(Edit: OH MY GOD IT'S THE SAME ACTOR!!!)
This is a certified Bamco moment
Personally the damage has already been done. Also fixing these bugs shouldn't have taken this long.
Fourth time this game has been released and the Gamecube version is still the best one.
Just incredible
If only namco could put these fixes on the actual cartridge in future reprints 😔
Ab thanks for the vid . I thought it was weird seeing ToS getting an update and I forgot to check what was patched
Did they fix the issue where its 30fps instead of the normal 60?
I wish they would restore the missing content from the first meeting with Remiel in the beginning of the game and get it to run at 60fps. Sad that they lost some data when porting to the PS2
Appreciate this video. Wanted to buy the game but it looks I wait a little longer. Wake me up in another 6 months please 😅
Have they cut some of remiels dialogue?
I’ve been playing it on my Steam Deck. A lot of the issues on PC have been fixed. But it took them awhile to fix that port as well.
this game desperately needs a remake by a competent developer.
3:30 .... Brother... You DO know the opacity setting for the menu is in the SETTINGS.... RIGHT???😅😅
So they still need to restore lost cutscene dialogue huh
Wasn’t that in the GameCube original? They didn’t dub some cutscenes.
@@JIreland1992 nope! All dialogue existed on the original GameCube version… the missing dialogue existed way back on the Japanese PlayStation 2 that had more content.
Are these patches for all versions?
Hopefully they fix the dropped dialogue caused by eliminating some text boxes.
I get the impression that Hideo Baba resents that Nintendo helped make Tales of Symphonia the most well-liked game in the series, and is begrudgingly fixing this game at the slowest pace he can that'd avoid also damaging the reputations of everyone else at bamco. He put out a statement that he wants the Tales series to only be successful in Japan, and only on playstation (or something to that effect), and I don't believe he's changed his mind about that.
Dude has left the company.
@@ChiefMedicPururu That's great news! I wouldn't be surprised if there are people like him sticking around though, especially if they can't (or won't) get the Switch version of Tales of Symphonia to meet or beat the Gamecube original.
Hideo Baba doesn't even work at Namco anymore
Noticed one of the characters has the same voice actor as Robin from the Teen Titans cartoon
Yo, I didnt know there were updates. I'm currently replaying at a place with dodgy wifi so I turn my switch's wifi off here. Just turned it on and updated it
11:20 it is illegal in germany to kill wasps. :D
finally AFTER A WHOLE YEAR WOWWW
No 60 FPS in either of those patches?! So sad, makes me wanna vomit that these companies put out old games in a worse state after all these years
The Long mode mistranslation is particularly funny if you're a programmer, because it suggests that it unlocked the ability for the game to run in 64-bit mode on an x86_64 CPU. And the Switch has an ARM-based processor, so that doesn't even make sense.
This looks better now.
I may have to pick this game up.
Hmm, this is odd, i just started playing 2 nights ago yet I haven't seen to have got the latest patch on Switch. As i definitely don't have the battle transitions an do have black skits and menu screens.
Strange as I have auto update set, I guess I will just have to force it to find it.
I would love for Symphonia to get a full remake with character models like Arise or better. Now I know it’ll never happen, but it’d be cool if it did.
Would NOT fit the game's art direction. Something like wind waker HD or even chibi-honkai world fit the game way better.
@@ShirakoriMio that’s a great opinion, but not a fact. It could still be high quality models and fit the mood of the game.
L O N G M O D E E N G A G E D ! ! !
Great, I got the game and have been saving it for after I finish Zelda.
The reason why Remiel’s dialogue was changed was to get rid of any sort of religious speak, all of his dialogues about Heaven and ascending to the gods have been taken out and will not come back for that reason
how is it rn?
Is it better on the Xbox or Nintendo Switch??
I picked up the chosen edition as it was on clearance for £12, but the GameCube version will always be my favourite.
