This Toy Is Glorious - Transformers RiD 2001 Optimus Prime
While I do not own the figure, I loved the way this Prime would combine with Ultra Magnus, and how the designer asked the director personally to ensure the "shake hands" combination sequence would be featured in the show.
With the handshake, Mangus's thumb goes into OP's hand and that is how it stays on until the panels are wrapped around exposing Omega Prime's hand
I bought both figures recently. The combined mode in a back heavy mess and Magnus is prone to yellowing so I’ve got him hidden away in the darkest corner of my shelf, but I love ‘em.
During the Unicron Trilogy sometime from Armada to Energon. I got the yellow version of this figure that was on sale at Sam’s Club. Didn’t know where it came from, I assumed it was from Armada/Energon. I didn’t know it had electronics though.
Edit: I miss when they gave Prime different looks. Granted this was a completely different character in Japan, Fire Convoy, but Armada had a different design.
That yellow prime is apparently called yellow splendid convey and is a girl.
@@BOT76395 Originally, it was going to be Hotshot, but as a Prime, but it was repurposed into a Female Prime for a Japanese comic. and honestly, I'm down for that.
It was for the 2003 Universe line.

I had this toy myself! Awesome to see it again.
You can actually slide the super mode shoulders over the chestplate in truck mode, this makes his super mode head tuck in a bit more and puts it at an angle. Hope that helps ^^

I came here to say this exact comment lol. It kinda bothers .e that its not tucked in properly lol, but it's all good. I would love to get ahold of another one of these. I had this and Magnus as a kid and I sorely miss them

I always pictured that Optimus Prime being able to fire off those missiles for cloud seeding purposes, to make it rain and put out forest fires or whatever.

Cool to see younger collectors appreciating what absolutely blew our minds back in 2000 (they came out a year earlier in Japan). This figure was a revelation for many of us who were absolutely sick of Beast Machines. It also made the Unicron Trilogy feel like such a big step backwards in terms of articulation and style. Neither here nor there but the Takara versions don’t seem to suffer from the tire cracking as often. Of all of my Hasbro RiD 2001 toys and my Takara Car Robots toys, only the Hasbro guys have tire issues 🤷🏻♂️
That is probably true about the tires. Mine still look new.
Hands down this version of Optimus takes the cake for my favorite design of the character EVER. A big red fire truck is SO perfect for him! And he can combine to make himself bigger and even cooler?!
This figure is still a grail of mine, I had one as a kid for my first Transformer ever, but unfortunately it broke during a move a few years ago and haven't gotten a new one. One of these days I'm gonna splurge for myself and get it new in unopened box alongside the Magnus he can combine with.
RiD2001 has so many awesome figures and designs. I like how they're more designed to be toys rather than collectable shelf figures, it adds a fun layer of charm to them. Plus, nostalgia lol I'm pretty sure I can still transform this Prime from memory I did it do many times.
My thoughts exactly. I absolutely LOVED playing with this prime back in my day and enjoyed transforming him back and forth countless times! I was a huge shameless firetruck nerd as a toddler up to boyhood so seeing optimus the monkey bot what with growing up with beast wars, be turned into a firetruck? I fell in love.
I was sick one week so my folks got me ultra magnus and sadly, he wasn't nearly as fun. I tried combining him with Optimus about twice or three times and never did it again because the transformation was a bit too complex for me at the time, he was too heavy and too many parts moved or fell off and got lost. But now that I'm older i do see what they were trying to do and can only enjoy it through concept.
I agree that RID2001 had some of the sleekest designs from prowl, megatron, the train brothers, skybite, etc. and I do prefer them over a lot of the armada bots. But in terms of shows, armada wins because it doesn't try too hard to be a digimon clone (right down to naming their attacks and having kids on the internet giving the main fusion character their...power? data? idk) even though armada was a pseudo pokemon clone via collecting minicons.
Dude, almost same story. My brother gave him to me when I was a young'un and I lost all the parts (because I was a kid). Just bought one on eBay today for more than I have ever spent on a collectible... But it's my holy grail in almost perfect condition.

This is my fav Optimus incarnation aside from his Armada version. Absolutely incredible stuff
I wanted this guy when I was like 4 back in '04 and I finally got him at my local comic shop a couple months ago. I'm amazed by how well he holds up after all these years.
I remember getting RID Optimus and Ultramagnus and making my own super-robot combo that used ALL the parts between them. He had 4 arms, those giant missle pods on his legs and the primary cannon wedged into the gap between ultramagnus' blaster. Was an epic sight to behold.

This is one of those toys that I'd love to see a modern incarnation of. him and God Magnus.
I really don't like most of the RID 2001 designs, but the articulation here is mad. Seeing this level of articulation in 2001 makes me wonder what the hell they were smoking when designing the Unicron trilogy figures!
Probably ground up minicons and bits of spring-loaded things.

Have you ever own or seen a Cybertron Metroplex? His articulation for his size is amazing and can stand toe to toe with modern figures easily.
Hey love your video the reviews aren't very long yet they cover everything about the figure just one thing could you maybe slow down the transformation or maybe make a short for it it would make the video's even better
God. I really hope we get this beautiful color scheme on Prime in the next movie! there's something that's just so clean about that Red and White, with the little blue highlights. Not nearly as flashy as Prime's original design, with the blue legs and red torso, with the white upper legs. but I Love this prime design even more!
My favorite Optimus design , a breath of fresh air from all of the other blocky primes , It would be Amazing seeing a Legacy verion of this toy or in general ,if a 3rd party made Toy out of this design they can have my money

"Small Prime"'s arms are Mini-Con compatible. The pegs the super mode armor attaches to that has a hole is just the right size to connect a Mini-Con to.
Super primes feet can be placed on little primes shoulders as missle launchers

I've always kinda preferred Prime as a Fire Truck. It fits his personality in my opinion.
Man, you have to get magnus!!! I wanted to buy optimus separately, but the person who sold him to me insisted on selling magnus with him. In the end I bought both, because he went down with the price eventually, and oh boy, I am not regretting this purchase! Magnus really elevates RID optimus to new hights

They should do a third party or MP figure of that.
You slightly mistransformed the truck mode. The super mode chestplate/head section should slope down into the gap, which helps to "hide" the head at least somewhat.
It's a damn shame they're not making a new toy of this design, because it's a really cool one.
I still have mine and the Ultra Magnus. I opened your video because mine has been in robot mode for a while and I needed you to remind me how to transform him. I was too lazy getting out the instructions. lol
You actually have the Fire Convoy version (there’s Kanji on his door in fire truck mode) which makes the figure 21 years old
Now imagine if they removed the gimmicks, made it using cheaper plastic, and charged more money!
I have the yellow Sam's club version. It's right there next to ultra Mammoth for my two favorite transformers of all time. I love them
you've mistransformed the truck mode. the chest plate for super mode is meant to recede into the bottom of the truck, obscuring the super mode face more and hiding all that junk

RiD had some solid figures. With not the hardest transformations either! I didn’t have a ton of them cause I was still a young adult and had a lot of other bills and wasn’t financially comfortable yet. Better toys than armada imo!
You need to get God Magnus
I want a modern version of him, or more firetruck Optimus Primes in general
the design is so good, but the oddly muscular sculpt and the skin color on the thigh and forearms always made me think its just just a naked man wearing armor lol
Get some Krazy Glue. The kind with a brush applicator. Brush some glue on the tire where it’s split apart, then brush some around the outside of the crack. I had to do this on almost all of Optimus Prime’s and Ultra Magnus’ tires, along with X-Brawn’s. They’ve held up for about 20 years now after gluing.
Can't wait till you get an Ultra Magnus for the inevitable Omega Prime video. The hand shake move alone makes it one of my favorite Prime combinations.

Coolest and best Optimus Prime toy I just got mine off of website in the Box for 90 bucks so worth it I had this and Magnus when I was little my dad gave me both of them they got damaged overtime so I got new ones I got a new Magnus and new Optimus for 140 bucks for both of them and I am happy

This is a great figure.. Have to get the 3rd party mp version... When you have it in basic robot mode the lights on his back are supposed to be angled out (kind of similar who G1 wheel jack has his robot mide "wings")
Honestly of all the Transformers I owned and played with, this guy was my favorite. Meanwhile Ultra Magnus was the most frustrating thing ever. I could never get everything lined up quite right in vehicle mode. 😂
gods I wanted this thing for years... I have 2001 RID Magnus, but no Prime. So, like... half a figure.
Yeah, I like this toy as well. My only concern is that it is very top heavy. In it's super mode and its combined form with Ultra Magnus. I am still looking for the Sam's Club exclusive Yellow Version of Optimus Prime.

There are three commander class primes I want:
Powermaster/ God Ginrai
R.I.D 2000 Optimus Prime (bonus if it’s Omega Prime)
Armada Supermode (again bonus if Jetfire is in the line)
Found a tiny optimus at Goodwill with his hands and pistol included and have spent the past year looking for the rest of his parts and successfully bought a bundle of them off ebay. Got Magnus for christmas back in 2001 and immediately regret not getting Prime instead. He's a much better figure of the 2, but now I can finally combine them both after 22 years!
At the time when I was a kid. I hated my Dad for having both Prime and Magnus left sealed in their box. I always wanted to play with them. But we both know they wouldn't last through time if i did. Now they're sitting on my book shelf still nice and neat in their box. A bit dinged up. but never removed! And I treasure those to this day.
It would be great to a transforming 3P figure. I don't think we ever see a new release from RID 2001. Disney owns the rights to the TV series. Hasbro wouldnt want to put money in their pockets to acquire it
I finally managed to pick this guy up and RID Ultra Magnus as well for a total of $99 USD been wanting mainly prime for years now, so glad I got to add them to my collection

The cab thing is annoying on mine as well, and he hasn't been transformed too often since I got him, holy crap 20 years ago? What? I HATE disassembling the ladder carriage, I always feel like the connection tabs are going to break.
He's a freaking BEAST if you get around to picking up an Ultra Magnus. Combining mine has always been a bit fiddly, and I think the ratchets on my Prime's legs are slightly out of sync, so he doesn't get into a true "A" pose. He ends up almost as tall as the base mode from Prime's kibble.
Transformers RiD 2001 20th Anniversary!
I got lucky and scored a massive haul for free that included this O.P. and Ultra Magnus. Now I'm trying to find the Sam's club yellow version. I was able to find the yellow cab part, but thus far I havnt been able to find the rest of it.

edit:btw you have the ladder on backward when it's being used to give him support and that is why in the video, it looks like the body is about to come undone from the ladder chest plate. yup that means you always have to rotate the ladder 80% if you want to have the ladder over super pime's shoulder
edit: one thing I loved about car robots aka RID2001 was anything the toy could do as a gimmick they did in the show like if the ladder is extended to far, it would cause the chest plate to come undone so in the anime they had prime hold it with both hands in super mode before he fired and as a kid I thought that was cool that hasbro and takara made sure the gimmicks worked on the toys just as well as they did on the show
I dont like the design or Better i dont like the HUGE amount of partsforming that this guy does in the show and in the Toy. I dont care about partsforming but if a transformer DOES so much partsforming then he Isnt a transformer. I dont know why but i really love the design of his base form and i also love his alt mode but the partsforming ruins everithing

In super mode, if you untab the front panels it will let you utilize the small Prime's ankle pivots.
Ngl everything here it's design, alternate mode, base mode, the rockets on the ladder just make me realize that botcon shouldve used this to make a pyro instead of the universe 2008 inferno mold
dont have it anymore but this was one of the best figs. Used to like having him with the big feet armor, shoulder armor and his regular chest and head. Thought it looked cool like that, like Mega Man or something. And i think i used a G1 Counterpunch rifle , looked cool. Unfortunately i threw it in the trash can with my generations Drift one day when moving. Hella dumb lol
You NEED to get ahold of Ultra Magnus from the same line. He is kinda finicky but he's a great addition to prime
