I'm enjoying all the mentions of Silver Dollar City in UA-cam media lately 😊 I was in the Country On The Lake show on the Showboat Branson Belle in 2017, and loved getting to hit up SDC all the time. GREAT company to work for!

As a Relocation Specialist and Statistical Analyst since 1985, I am very familiar with the metrics that make projects like this happen. The concept of a World class theme park resort (ie Universal and Disney) like American Heartland Theme Park is awesome. With Disney struggling with their poor decisions and former Disney Imagineers heading this project, this can definitely work……..IF, and only if, they plan this to the tee. It’s almost certain that this $2 billion park can not succeed in rural northeast Oklahoma. Here are its problems.
    1) The location is much too remote. A world class park (as opposed to a regional park like Six Flags) has to have a permanent metro population base of at least 800k and/or a significant tourist base to have a chance to even have a chance to work, especially creating one from scratch. This location is absolutely horrible. The extra cost that it will take to put it in a more favorable area will be easily recouped.
    2) The climate is too cold in the Winter. For a World class park to be able to recoup the $2 billion initial and ongoing costs and turn a profit, it has to be opened year round. As a consumer, there is now way I’m going to travel half way across the country to freeze to death in rural Oklahoma in December when I can go to Orlando and be comfortable at Universal and SeaWorld.
In my analysis, the only area in the nation that can make a resort of this magnitude work is the Houston, TX Metro Area.
    1) It has a permanent metro population of 7.3 million people and has a moderate tourist base already in place.
    2) The Houston Metro Area is one of the fastest growing metro areas in the nation.
    3) The metro area’s Buying Power (overall cost of living vs. income) is 18.97% better than the national average. This means that the average family has more disposable income for recreational activities (like theme parks), compared to other metro areas.
    4) There are beaches and other things of interest for tourists.
    5) Highway/international airport infrastructure is already in place.
    6) There is not a theme park within a 3 hour radius.
    7) Their climate is warm enough for the resort to be opened year round.
    8) No other metro area in the nation has all of these very important metrics in place.
This is not at all to degrade Oklahoma. I have very high regard for the state and it ranks very well in my livability rankings that I do every 5 years. But in the case of building a $2 billion theme park in a rural corner of the state, it just isn’t going to work. To see that nothing has been done at this point doesn’t surprise me at all. Hopefully, the investors and planners of this theme park resort will look to another location where it can have the best change to flourish. I would love to see this happen.

Houston is more of a target for hurricanes than eastern Florida and to use your first "reason" of needing "a population base of 800K", this area is within the Tulsa Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA) which was reported by the US Census Bureau in July 2023 as 1,044,757. To draw tourists to our part of the state is the already world class "The Gathering Place" a $500 million family park for the child in all of us that costs nothing to attend. Sounds like you live in Houston...oh by the way how's your traffic down there? Some of the worst in the nation I've read. All I hear is Texas sucking the life out of everything that surrounds it. Your state even sued Oklahoma to force us to sell water from native American lands to your greedy cancerous desires to consume everything around it. Be a good neighbor and let us enjoy our resources and share in success. We also have an "International" airport and the largest concentration of man made lakes in the US with more shoreline than the east, west and gulf coasts combined with plenty of beaches. I've been to Houston and Galveston and the water looks like most East Texas lakes...murky. We have clean clear water lakes in Northeast Oklahoma with multiple river rafting areas...with beaches! Northeast Oklahoma winter average daily temperature is around 58 degrees. Another attraction to Oklahoma is the lower costs of goods, services and fuel. As of today the former "Oil Capital of the World...Tulsa", has fuel that is 30 cents a gallon cheaper than Houston the current Oil Capital of the World. As i see it, our area is a better fit and value for the type of attraction and customer they're going after and Houston is not part of the American Heartland!

Disney and Universal have both stated on record they reason they don’t want to build anything in the Midwest is because it will canabalize the existing American parks. Personally, I think that is dumb since the main complaint about the parks is how crowded they are since everything is bunched together. Of course they like it this way cause they get to charge extra to have an experience to skip those crowds. I’m hoping this park at least encourages competition to build stuff of substance. Midwest lang is cheap and there is a ton of it.

I wouldn’t classify Oklahoma as Midwest considering it’s more south than some southern states and everyone there acts southern, also universal is making a theme park at the top of Texas so idk if that’s really true

While I understand Disney and Universal being worried of cannibalizing the theme park industry in the Midwest, the region could actually benefit from having Big Name world-class theme parks. The likes of Disney and Universal bring with them clout, and the Midwestern parks could potentially benefit from having either of those nearby. Just look at Knott’s Berry Farm in Southern California. Part of the reason the average American knows it exists, is because it is 30-minutes from the original Disneyland. The issue is more the weather, as the Midwest is colder than both Tokyo and Paris.

I got a feeling I will fly to this park for opening day!! If it's only half what they say it will be,..it will still be amazing. It seems that they are literally focusing EXACTLY on everything that Disney has ignored or thrown away in their parks recent years. Disney would NEVER build this "American Heartland" concept in 2024. Disney prolly sees this stuff today and rolls their eyes and would claim that this idea is too "problematic" for them.

They may not have the actual money for this. There is already a lien on the property for non payment. FORREC U.S. Inc., a Toronto-based design firm, filed a mechanic's and materialman's lien against the developer, Mansion Entertainment Group, and the property owner, OGB Holdings, in Craig County District Court on May 3, 2024. The lien claims that FORREC is owed $1.6 million for the theme park, $2.2 million for the hotel and indoor water park, and $1.5 million for the RV campground for unpaid design work and planning. Liens protect businesses and people who provide materials or services for real estate by claiming a right to property if the property owner doesn't pay. Mansion Entertainment Group has said they are aware of the lien and regret not being able to reach an agreement with FORREC.

@capthemagic - I'm a producer in the entertainment industry, and partnered with an established, respected company in themed entertainment, and a consultant to another. And several firms have expressed relief on LinkedIn that they dodged a bullet by NOT taking assignments for this project.
Now this could change. Maybe they had temporary cash flow problems or legal reasons they couldn't pay their bills - maybe it was just for a while. I'm not tracking their current status. But a quick marker would be, "have they even begun building the RV park?"
That should be easy to investigate.

My guess (and only that) is, THAT company brought the strength of its oversight to call the America's Heartland people into account for unpaid bills. I don't know if any other design firms associated with the project have declared bankruptcy.

Centralize all of it in one park with near infinite room for expansion, and free up a massive amount of space in the other Disney Parks. If you put in Texas, you'd probably get a crap load of people.
