@Cameron Pollock You obviously have not read the FIA rule book. The FIA states four things about wheel to wheel racing that are relevant to this incident. 1) If two cars are side by side and the car on the inside has half a car length or more alongside, that car is entitled to the racing line. This wasn't the case in this situation. 2) If two cars are alongside and one of the cars is less than half a car length alongside, then the car that is ahead is entitled to the racing line regardless of whether the car is on the inside or the outside or where the other car is. This means that the car behind would have to "Tuck in" behind the other car. So to answer your question, yes Grosjean should have slowed down to get behind Grosjean 3) If two cars are alongside and the car on the inside is approximately half way beside the other car. This means that there's a dispute over the racing line. In this case, if there's a collision, both drivers need to share the blame and the crash is a racing incident rather than a penalty for either driver. 4) On lap one, many incidents are classed as racing incidents. This is because many cars are too close together. Grosjean may not have knew that there was space to lift off behind him and would have known that the cars behind him may have overtaken him. Staying ahead would've been key. C) In conclusion, racing incident because of the dispute for the apex and the fact that it's lap one. Blame must be shared, but more Grosjean than Hulkenberg's fault.
@Cameron Pollock The car allowed the apex is allowed to push the other car though and Grosjean did go for a bit of a divebomb. He probably should have waited for the next corner like Leclerc on Riccardo. The rules can be a bit wayward, but for now, rules are rules.
