The dog being a carrier wasn’t even a surprise. The whole time I’m thinking about the opening to the movie the thing. what kind of dog knows to run away from another animal?
8/10 creepy for sure, but not too original. Portals are now such a common trope that it reminds me of Stranger Things, Stargate, Contact, Half Life, Alien, and many more. Also, I feel the dangers in the story are very present day earth-like. If the story is about the exchange between two far away civilizations in the universe, then the real dangers should be barely unimaginable, but not impossible. I believe the experiences that can drive you the most insane are the ones that are highly improbable, but are still within the laws of nature.

Lots of this story is based on actual quantum physics. We have already done part of this in the late 90s. We super froze material to absolute 0. Cut it in half keeping it at 0.
