  • In this video, Wayne Dyer discusses the concept of ambition and its impact on how we define ourselves. He describes how from a very early age, individuals are taught that their identity is shaped by what they have, what they accumulate, and what they own. The emphasis is placed on material possessions, wealth, and achievements as a measure of one's worth and value.
Dyer explains that this focus on accumulation and achievement creates a cycle of constant comparison with others. People are driven to collect more, achieve more, and prove their worth to society. The underlying belief is that "I am what I have" and "I am what I do." As a result, when individuals face setbacks or losses in terms of possessions or achievements, they experience fear, anxiety, and a sense of inadequacy.
Furthermore, Wayne Dyer points out the downside of this ambition-driven perspective. As people age, they often find it challenging to maintain the same level of achievement, leading to feelings of depression, anxiety, and fear. The fear of not being able to sustain their achievements or of being left behind by others can be emotionally taxing.
The video also touches on the significance of reputation and peer pressure. People are encouraged to care about what others think of them, which can lead to a constant need for approval and acceptance. However, the Dyer suggests that true independence and self-assuredness can only be achieved when individuals let go of their obsession with the opinions and expectations of others.
In summary, the video highlights how the societal focus on ambition, materialism, and external validation can shape our identities and influence our emotional well-being. The talk underscores the importance of reevaluating these beliefs and embracing a more self-aware and internally driven sense of self.
“We search for happiness everywhere, but we are like Tolstoy's fabled beggar who spent his life sitting on a pot of gold, under him the whole time. Your treasure--your perfection--is within you already. But to claim it, you must leave the buy commotion of the mind and abandon the desires of the ego and enter into the silence of the heart.”
    ― Elizabeth Gilbert
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life:
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
One is evil-he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”
He continued, “The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you-and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

The older I get, the more comfortable I am in my own skin, and the less I care about what others think of me. I am my own cheerleader, and God approves of me. And that's good enough for me.👧

It makes sense when heard in a seminar or on youtube but it's another story to keep that in mind in our everyday life.

It is impossible for a human to not have ego. There is only one who is without ego.

Ego can be the enemy at times. The key is to simply be aware of it and choose to be entertained by it. That simple.
