First, about your question about 'can I bring 10 Bonepickers?': YES, your only compulsory entry is that your gang must have a Leader and after that you can take all Bonepickers if you want, but keep in mind most Scenarios tend to have a Starting crew size limit of 10 or less. That said Cawdor Brethren and Bonepickers have the Devout Masses (Ganger/Juve) special rules, that allow your gang to bring +1 Brethren and +D3 Bonepickers over the normal starting Crew size of each scenario, which is the main mechanic that makes Cawdor the true 'Horde' gang of the game. In addition, since you mentioned 'Blowing your own fighters up', I am guessing you want to use the Path of the Doomed and that Path of faith also has an AoF (=Article of Faith) that lets you bring in from a table edge (the edge closest to the fighter performing the AoF) D3 fighters that were not in the starting crew mid-game and you can keep using it so long as you have Faith dice for it, meaning you could technically have your entire horde of 20+ Bonepickers on the table by the end of the game. Incidentally, I also use Path of the Doomed for my Cawdor gang and the general strategy in game is to deploy any Bonepickers in the starting crew somewhere out of sight of the enemy, close to the side edges of the board, and activate them first, just Beseeching the God emperor, partly to force the opponent to activate all their fighters before I have to expose/reveal my own champions, but also to to roll more 'Faith dice' at the end of the 1st round, hoping to max out my Faith pool and use those faith dice to ensure bringing in additional fighters from the side edges with Acts of Faith and drown the opponent in my unwashed masses of trash pickers :P About Cherubs: note that they are Outlaw pets, meaning you can 'recruit them' only when your gang is Outlawed. Now, if you want to 'spam' Bonepickers, your idea of using Arco Flagellants as Cawdor juves would work pretty well, since they can be Bonepickers with 1-2 Flails each and you'd have 10 in a box. I find also Sister Repentia would work very well as Cawdor Brethren with Great swords, if you wanted some more variety/melee prowess for your horde of fanatics (Great swords have Versatile 1'', Sever and +1 to hit at Versatile range, so if they fail to hit/wound, the enemy can't hit them back with reaction attacks). For your starting Gang I'd suggest: - Redemptionist priest with Chain axes + Exterminators and Restless Faith - 1x Redemptionist Deacon with Grenade launcher and Scavenger Eye - Maybe 1x Cawdor Firebrand with Heavy Crossbow (but he's relatively expensive, so it might be better to hire this later in the camapign) - 1x Redemptionist Brethren Specialist with Grenade launcher or Fire pike (again the Fire pike is pretty expensive to start with, so you might want to leave it for later camapign) - 2-3x Cawdor Brethren with Blunder-poles - 4+ Cawdor Bonepickers with Stub guns (if you want them really cheap) or Flails (if you want them to actually be able to contribute to the fight) - ideally you'd like a mix, as in 3-4 Bonepicker with just a Stub gun, mainly meant to hide in a corner and continually Pray to the God emperor for Faith dice and to burn enemy activations, while the Flail Bonepickers are actually meant to run around the map doing stuff. Cheers! :)
i main Escher but have been looking to get into Cawdor with a mixed list. your hype for the shenanigans is absolutely contagious and Im here for it. im also going path of the doomed, with a mess of blunderpoles, priest with chain axe and book of redemption. im debating on the skill to give him, but Mentor to help boost the others, unshakable conviction so he cant be coup de graced or reckless faith as someone else suggest. overlord is also VERY tempting
My starting list was priest w/ chainaxe , firebrand w/ crossbow, deacon w/flamer chainsaw , 3 gangers w/ blunderpoles, and the rest was loads of juves with rubbish pistols and / or axes. You can get loads of them into fights with path of the doomed miracles. In retrospect I might have gone for 2 crossbow guys as it is nuts , but might have upset my friends
So my first Cawdor campaign I went all Cawdor, besides one Deacon champ with an eviscerator (who was fucking awesome). But in my second Cawdor campaign which is a lot more mixed? Cawdor proper is the way to go
Thanks for reigniting my idea to do a water guild allied Cawdor gang that worship an archeotech which purifies the underhive water into water that heals people. Yes I know that it's ironic to say "re-**ignite**" when talking about a water themed faction.
for my cawdor im ratmaxxing. im taking an outlands beastmaster and wordkeeper to start and dedicating them to the saint of rats (crusading gang) since my leader is my only gang hierarchy man he will become the conduit. My leader will also have a bomb rat to start, his job is to rat and do conduit power. Vermin, saint of rats buffs exotic pets. Helping them not get too terrible serious injuries and extending their range. Every champion and leader will have a rat. Also im going to spend juve exp on int so they can use bomb rats effectively. Some may be lost along the way but that is a sacrifice i am willing to make. By taking rat exotic beasts I can pump up my gang members even more. An outlands beastmaster + 3 rats is 4 models off of 1 gang slot. I could even take an additional outlands beastmaster later in the campaign. Add on top of that the 1 + 1d3 other gangers ill get and ill be a true swarm. Plus whenever bomb rats don't explode they linger. Increasing my models on the board further. In a custom 10 game I can get 14+d3 models plus however many exotic beasts I get. Not to mention any additional guys I can get from faith powers. It doesn't matter how many meltaguns and plasma cannons you have. Do you really have enough firepower to deal with every model?
Sorry my mistake . I did not see the deacon special rule in the book I have but now I rechecked it it’s true and I’m an old school redemption ist player lol
@@mrnaughtycat Ah that's alright, I thought for a second that it was completely wrong lol but it's all good and I am getting into redemptionists so its all good

I like the idea of Cawdor because of the 40k models you can mix in, match & convert.
My feelings exactly when I got into Cawdor 😂 love it
I don’t care whatGW say I will still use the arch zealot
