I have just a roadside table in my neighborhood with a money box attached to post. Sell perennials and cut flowers. Buy used vases at yard sales for 50 cents. Neighbors have really supported my habit and the $ helps me buy soil. They have voluntarily been returning pots and vases. I’ve made so many friends in the neighborhood!

Did this last spring. Had a three day sale and made $1000. Started my seeds in feb and March indoors. Used bakers racks with shop lights and keep inside until it warmed up enough outside. I’d roll the carts outside during the day and inside at night when cold. Worked great.

I'm preparing for it. I'm in a rural area, aka out in the boonies, so I am going to start small with about 225-250 plants to see how it goes. If successful, I can expand the following year, and so on from there. The question is how many of what plants? The people in my area aren't familiar with anything but the basics, so with peppers, a good producing bell pepper, banana pepper, cubanelle, and jalapeno. For tomatoes, maybe a classic beefsteak, and Super Sweet 100 cherry Tomatoes. I'll probably throw in some pickling cucumbers, and maybe some zucchini and crookneck squash to fill the table.

Thanks Gary! You definitely got me started on seedlings sale 2 years ago. Did it for 2 years. First year i made 1200 in sale and second year I made more than 5K! My goal is more than 10k coming season. It’s amazing how you impact the community. From first year, learnt what plants does the community value and second year grew only those. Next year, will stick to same variety, but probably hit more neighborhoods

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Agreed. I had a half barrel in the yard with sunflowers growing in it many years ago. Went to move it the following spring, and it fell apart in my hands. I suspect the shed will last longer than that, especially since you painted it and it's sitting on gravel so that the water drains away.
This is a great overview of what people can make from selling plants themselves. It's pretty amazing really, and you only touched on a few. Earth Day is a great time to have a plant sale, and Mother's Day weekend or just before that, at least here in Oregon it is (zone 8b) I hope people give this a try, it can be so encouraging.

I have been playing with this idea for a while now. I live in the low AZ desert zone 9b. I don't need a green house but do need a shade house. Trying to salvage an old portable cart port frame into that shade house to protect my plants from the hot sun and seedlings from the birds. I constantly divide many plants so I have a number of items and big quantities to sell. Thank you for the information you provided

I've done it! Local internet sales, local farmer's markets, yard sales. Partner up with existing sellers to lower fees. Break it up; Spring plants early and summer plants after. Just 1 rack of seedlings can bring in $$$.

I make mine. So its in big pots it is mostly topsoil and leaf grow with some peat. For seed starting it is more peat moss. Very similar to my potting mix recipes on my channel. Thank you for all the amazing videos. Because of your multiple videos on selling plants, I’m doing it this year. Selling everything at $3 per plant/pack/bunch and B3G1. Additionally, I created a google form people can use to reserve their plants now in advance. As of right now, I have $1,300 worth of plants reserved and my goal is $2000 because that will pay for the greenhouse (Costco) I got this year and everything I got to upgrade my garden. I have enough space to grow around 1200 plants.

Very informative video. Thank you for the tips. I grew a lot of seedlings earlier this year to get ready for April planting and most died off. I believe it was a combination of the grow lights and my not knowing how to fertilize after germination. Can you give a tip on when to begin fertilizing the seedlings and what type of liquid fertilizer you use on them? Normally I use liquid fertilizer Agrothrive once transplanted but don't know what to use when they are still seedlings that I need to keep growing for a few months til spring. Any tips are appreciated :)

Does the cutting have to be rooted in a pot? Can it be cut and put in the ground to root even though the season is getting colder? I have a blueberry that has a branch of top bushy limb growing straight but the middle part has about 4-6 inches of stem with no leaves. I thought maybe I could cut it and plant to make another bush in ground. Can it survive and set roots in the ground before ground freezes?
Maybe. These were all layered branches that rooted out. You can do cutting and such but I just dont know for sure. Probably would need to be inside. I dont know the laws. But I suspect it is based on if the plant is registered as owned by a company. Most plants can be propagated but new hybrids might be owned. You can just do that for the ones you mentioned but for tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and peppers you want the variety and such. Each city is different so you do have to research it for license. I have just a roadside table in my neighborhood with a money box attached to post. Sell perennials and cut flowers. Buy used vases at yard sales for 50 cents. Neighbors have really supported my habit and the $ helps me buy soil. They have voluntarily been returning pots and vases. I’ve made so many friends in the neighborhood!

Did this last spring. Had a three day sale and made $1000. Started my seeds in feb and March indoors. Used bakers racks with shop lights and keep inside until it warmed up enough outside. I’d roll the carts outside during the day and inside at night when cold. Worked great.

yeah outside during the day was awesome here too. though if I left them out a bit past dark I had to check for slugs in the trays 😒
What was the profit margin? How much do you think it costed you to tend to those plants before they were sold?
I'm preparing for it. I'm in a rural area, aka out in the boonies, so I am going to start small with about 225-250 plants to see how it goes. If successful, I can expand the following year, and so on from there. The question is how many of what plants? The people in my area aren't familiar with anything but the basics, so with peppers, a good producing bell pepper, banana pepper, cubanelle, and jalapeno. For tomatoes, maybe a classic beefsteak, and Super Sweet 100 cherry Tomatoes. I'll probably throw in some pickling cucumbers, and maybe some zucchini and crookneck squash to fill the table.
Yeah for sure start small and see how it goes. Build up a base. Flea markets and churches and such are good too.

My goal is more than 10k coming season.
It’s amazing how you impact the community. From first year, learnt what plants does the community value and second year grew only those. Next year, will stick to same variety, but probably hit more neighborhoods

@@THERUSTEDGARDEN Agreed. I had a half barrel in the yard with sunflowers growing in it many years ago. Went to move it the following spring, and it fell apart in my hands. I suspect the shed will last longer than that, especially since you painted it and it's sitting on gravel so that the water drains away.
This is a great overview of what people can make from selling plants themselves. It's pretty amazing really, and you only touched on a few. Earth Day is a great time to have a plant sale, and Mother's Day weekend or just before that, at least here in Oregon it is (zone 8b) I hope people give this a try, it can be so encouraging.

I have been playing with this idea for a while now. I live in the low AZ desert zone 9b. I don't need a green house but do need a shade house. Trying to salvage an old portable cart port frame into that shade house to protect my plants from the hot sun and seedlings from the birds. I constantly divide many plants so I have a number of items and big quantities to sell. Thank you for the information you provided

I've done it! Local internet sales, local farmer's markets, yard sales. Partner up with existing sellers to lower fees. Break it up; Spring plants early and summer plants after. Just 1 rack of seedlings can bring in $$$.

What medium are you using in the pots?
I make mine. So its in big pots it is mostly topsoil and leaf grow with some peat. For seed starting it is more peat moss. Very similar to my potting mix recipes on my channel.

Thank you for all the amazing videos. Because of your multiple videos on selling plants, I’m doing it this year. Selling everything at $3 per plant/pack/bunch and B3G1. Additionally, I created a google form people can use to reserve their plants now in advance. As of right now, I have $1,300 worth of plants reserved and my goal is $2000 because that will pay for the greenhouse (Costco) I got this year and everything I got to upgrade my garden. I have enough space to grow around 1200 plants.
Congrats on doing a sale and good luck! So nice you are closing in on your goal. Next year you will have returning customers, even better. Very exciting on the greenhouse. If you havent bought the greenhouse, buy it asap, they sell out fast and they dont often get more.

Very informative video. Thank you for the tips. I grew a lot of seedlings earlier this year to get ready for April planting and most died off. I believe it was a combination of the grow lights and my not knowing how to fertilize after germination. Can you give a tip on when to begin fertilizing the seedlings and what type of liquid fertilizer you use on them? Normally I use liquid fertilizer Agrothrive once transplanted but don't know what to use when they are still seedlings that I need to keep growing for a few months til spring. Any tips are appreciated :)
I use reduced water soluble by like 1/2 or 1/3 strength and just lightly feed.

Does the cutting have to be rooted in a pot? Can it be cut and put in the ground to root even though the season is getting colder? I have a blueberry that has a branch of top bushy limb growing straight but the middle part has about 4-6 inches of stem with no leaves. I thought maybe I could cut it and plant to make another bush in ground. Can it survive and set roots in the ground before ground freezes?
Maybe. These were all layered branches that rooted out. You can do cutting and such but I just dont know for sure. Probably would need to be inside. New growth its best for cutting.You can bury stems from the bushes now and just collect them in early spring.

What are the laws for selling propagated/grown plants is it only restricted on new varieties that a company has created ?
I dont know the laws. But I suspect it is based on if the plant is registered as owned by a company. Most plants can be propagated but new hybrids might be owned.

I hate my goji berries. I get 1 sweet out of very sour 20. I was really thinking about cutting it & digging the whole thing up. Sparrows sit on it & eat them & wait for me to open the chicken coop so they can steal the feed
I found letting them really sit on the plant past when you think they should be harvest works best for sweetness.

Do you label your plants with specific varieties, or can you get away with just labeling plants "strawberry" or "blackberry"? Do you need a licence? Cash only? I've sold veggie plants the last two seasons, and I want to really increase how much I'm selling
You can just do that for the ones you mentioned but for tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and peppers you want the variety and such. Each city is different so you do have to research it for license. It really varies.
