  • Community Characteristics (structure and composition) can be studied under two main sets.
    Analytical Characters
    Synthetic Characters

    Analytical Characters
 It includes those features of community which can be observed or measured in each sampling unit.
 There are two different aspects of vegetational analysis
    a. Quantitative characters: (count)
    b. Qualitative Characters: (observe)
    Quantitative Characters
 These includes those features of community which can be measured/counted more readily that the others.
 The structure and composition of plant community cannot be studied by observing each and every individual species growing in a habitat and it is rather impossible.
 Thus, rough estimate of species in habitat is made by observing the plant species at different place using quadrat.
 Quadrat is a defined area (square frame) used to study the vegetation or organisms within that specific area.
 Quantitative analysis of a community in ecology involves applying statistical methods to assess and measure various ecological parameters within a given habitat.
