    this is some of the best guitar instruction on youtube. no wasting time with ring finger on 4th string, pinkie here, index, there etc, just the chords maam.. I like that. Just go through the chords, and the count (which most people fail to include). No distractions in the background, articulate-no wasted babble, nice demeanor, and rather good looking too!

    This video was quite enjoyable and in my opinion you are a good teacher. You communicate well, articulate and have a pleasant speaking voice and keep it "light" mood-wise as to not scare off beginners. You seem to be pretty young (then again, dirt is young compared to me) yet have great confidence and presence. Well done miss Jen.

    HEY EVERYBODY!!! I'VE WORKED OUT THE STRUMMING!!!! On the first chord C you play 3 or 4 down strums \\\\ Then as you change to D you go up down up /\/. goes for the whole song

    You missed a subtle chord change that only happens during chorus. The bass plays a different root note which creates a pleasant tension.

    Hard to understand the negative responses to this excellent tutorial... This very nice young lady showed a million of beginner guitar players the easiest way to play one of the greatest pop songs in history on an acoustic guitar with 4 chords... and to make it sound pretty close to the original. Compare it to Chris Martins acoustic performance at the Howard Stern Show... In principle... THE SAME... !!! The differences? Chris Martin is a professional singer and musician.... We are NOT!!! I'm grateful for everybody who supports me in singing and playing popular songs in a way that people around me at the bonfire recognize.... Oh, it's Coldplay... ;-))

    Some times I think just straight chords playing this tune is better than the fingerpicking version even though I'm a finger style guitarists. No matter what it's not gonna come out the way it was made famous because it was a whole band that did it.
    That is something that becomes very frustrating to me, I hear a lot of young kids beat the hell out of the guitar over this song it rattles a bit too much even if they think they are Andre Segovia, if you know what I mean.
    So nice. I enjoy your sense of humor in teaching this and again sometimes straight away chords can do wonders.

    When you list the chords to avoid confusion state the pitch names of these chords but not the shapes, or if you are going to call them by shape, state that they are not the pitch correct chords, eg; you are playing a D shape chord which is actually an Eb but you call it a D. However if you're downtuned please say so at the start of the video. Then it makes more sense.

    to make it less complicated for beginners you can play this song with one chord almost the full song... its all on the low E chord and you just change frets... you go 9 x3, 11 x5, 4 x3, 1 x5 then repeat.

    I have the same question, but I've noticed on most of Jen's vids that she does this for her G Major. When she said what chord it is she did play with her index finger, but when she plays it, she doesn't put her finger down. Probably bad habit, or she just likes the sound of it better, since I do that as well with different chord voices.

  • @Macconator2010
    @Macconator2010 12 років тому

    Really, I learned so much quicker when I knew the chord by pitch not by shape. It really speeds a beginners progress into a good understanding of natural chords, theory and practical as well. Not IDing the chords by pitch is like not learning about scales or to a lesser degree modes. It may be slightly harder to understand at first but is better in the long run. Besides the guy could have just said at the start the Chord IDs he was using were not pitch correct.

    This may be a stupid question, but I'm new to guitar. I was just wondering why when you played G major, you don't put your index finger on the A string of the 2nd fret, is there a reason why you don't? Just asking because Ive seen lots of other vids when they played the G major with their index finger on the A string. But awesome vid!!

    I actually thought she did a good job teaching. Was not a waste of time. I really only needed the chord progression. But she taught me how to strum it too. And some of you say it’s played in a certain key? Key can be switched for specific needs. Like this being an acoustic, it’ll sound better playing more simple chords. Thanks. And don’t @ me.
