$20 just isn’t enough to survive anywhere these days. If it’s a dangerous job, you definitely deserve way more, and your employer is exploiting you. I’d try to find a unionized company, you’ll have a better opportunity for more pay and benefits. Oh, and all Mike Rowe does these days is whine about “nobody wants to work” anymore. I used to look up to him, but he definitely has no worker solidarity.
Well, it's safe to say that on Monday I start as an install technician again making the same amount of money. And that sucks, I used to like him too back in the day.
I've never climbed a tower that big, but I know plenty of people who have, and they've never gotten paid anything close to the claims of that video. I've heard it was debunked, but I personally don't know whether it was true or not. It's highly unlikely he makes that much PER CLIMB, as the video claims, BUT if he works climbing towers like that all year round, I could imagine him making that much.
Starting out I made $320 a month, but that was a long time ago in the Navy.
