The elevated volume of some passengers conversations is hugely irritating and annoying. What changed, it simply wasn’t like this awhile ago?
Cabin noise too is actually less than it was before on older airplanes. Better cabin insulation and quieter engines so we hear more around us now that would otherwise would have been drowned out by engine and wind noise. Case in point: some versions of the A380 when introduced... had their crew rests upstairs rather in the lower lobe/cargo hold and their crews were complaining of the difficulty of sleeping because the cabin was THAT quiet now.
