  • 00:35 Fred George - Lebanese businessman in Canada
22:10 Ibrahim Oweiss - Egyptian economist in the US
Fred George escaped the Lebanese Civil War in 1976, emigrated to Canada and as a teenager helped in the family poultry business. Now the entrepreneur runs a multimillion-dollar gold mining empire.
Elsewhere, Ibrahim Oweiss fled Egypt in 1960 after a dispute with the government at the time. He settled in the United States and became a highly respected economist, counting former President Bill Clinton as one of his admirers.
From a multimillionaire Lebanese businessman in Canada, to a globally recognised Egyptian economist in Washington, DC, this film features two stories of Arab migration about leaders who found success in their new lives abroad.

Uncle Fred George is a living testimony that in life you don’t have to have experience. Just put in the time and hard work and you’ll get things done. You can make it if you try harder. What an inspirational guy.

He's an optimist. This can make or break you. The difference between pessimists and optimists is huge.Attitude! Life is 10 percent what happens to you, and 90 percent how you react to it. It's not necessarily how successful, but how many times you fell and got back up!!

The First Gentleman’s story highlights the reason why I am proud to be the child of immigrants here in the west. Regardless of where they come from these types of stories are quite the norm in immigrant communities. We don’t leave our countries to come here and play games. 😊

In many countries unless you have a direct indigenous lineage you’re ancestors were immigrants.

Both men have accomplished much and have giving genuine hearts....but my heart likens to Dr Ibrahim, he is the mark of humbleness & humility....and has done impactful work on national & international levels...and in it all, still managed to have a family....God bless you & Mr George.

It's sad that the likes of Mr. Fred & Dr. Owessi are not appreciated or given the opportunities & confidence to reach their full potential to prosper their in this case their respective nations Lebanon & Egypt because of war, corruption, big egos of politicians from their countries. This goes for a lot of African, Middle Eastern & Latin American countries. Eventually, such talent ends up benefitting other countries

My father is Lebanese Canadian, I've never heard of Fred George, perhaps because I live on Vancouver Island.
He does remind me greatly of all the Lebaese immigrants who populated the mining and mill towns in Northern Ontario in the 1920's onwards, and built many of the stores and service industries throughout the north. Many ' travellers ' rode the railroads and the then the highways as they were built, selling goods from Sothern Ontario into the retail outlets of the north.
This industrious nature, affable outgoing congeniality and sense of community is a core thread in the Lebanese character . Not many were good hockey players, but they did everything else very well !!

Lebanese have an advantage from Ivory Coast to Argentina and . There is a large immigrant community and population of descendants in so many countries punching above their weight in business, politics ( descendents), medicine, and media to name a few industries.

I feel like Muslims, whom existed since the 6th century, should take charge on labeling as well as defining whoever is messing up their islam. Both those labels mean shit to me. Those who read their own delusion into the holy Quran and terrorise others are described as ¨Khawarej¨ aka Outsiders that left Islam faster than an arrow leaves bow. During the islamic golden age, Muslims ruled half the world and all the different religions freely living untill the 21st century when the west decided to deliver tyrants followed by psudo[demo]cracy :)
