Fallout is the gaming equivalent of the Terminator franchise, both started out as terrifying almost horror like apocalyptic tales with atmospheric music, then sadly turned into campy lighthearted mockeries.

Bethesda's acquisition of the franchise was the worst thing that could have ever happened to it. Fittingly the best entry of its 3d era wasn't even developed by Bethesda, not that Bethesda could even make a game on the level of Obsidian, as their interest in creating a true RPG experience has largely diminished over the years

This is easily one of the best soundtracks ever made for any medium. Mark Morgan is one of the greatest composers ever imho. It perfectly captures the feel a post apocalyptic wasteland would have. When I close my eyes, I can see the desolate wastelands before my eyes when listening to these fascinating tunes.

Just started playing this and I stole the water chip from this place, told the good ghouls I'd help but I betrayed them. I feel a little bad about it but I had a vault full of my people to take care of and I wanted to get it done with asap. I went back and it's nothing but dead ghouls except the children of whatever people.
It is as if the ghouls of Necropolis were, on some level, still frozen in crystalized time, never quite free of the trauma of having lived through the terrors of the end of the world. They had survived, after a fashion, but the memories of what they had lived through constantly hovered at the edge of their consciousness like the ghosts of the many, many loved ones they had watched die horribly. And this track captures that.
If Bethesda can somehow turn around and make a Fallout game with features from 4, writing from New Vegas, and the desolation and despair from 1, 2, and 3, they need to at least add this OST to one location. A really fucked up place that speaks nothing but despair to the player, and this song plays.

(Especially if what the Wha Happun video is anything to go by, a lot of the devs were pretty much trying the best they could, with tech they weren't quite as adjusted to, as the more veteran devs at Bethesda were.)
I could definitely see this as the theme of Old Olney in Fallout 3. I mean, the fact alone that the place is crawling with Deathclaws is probably in itself a good reason to use it there.
Fallout 4? Probably a few places on the island in the Far Harbour DLC, where this could fit, what with all the fog, monsters and the fact that locals like trappers have gone crazy, from being in said fog for too long.
The sheer dread that is construed in this track is unparalleled. You really feel the glacial like drones engulf you with nothing but worry, panic and uncompromising tension.
I respect you for going back to the originals after playing NV. They are hard to get into, but once I figured out how the interface works in 1, I couldn’t stop playing haha. This game proves that the story and atmosphere of a game can in fact carry the gameplay.

Really realized that power armour and basically most of the technology look like if thr nazis and the allies had just different technology in experimentation as they look more like ww 2 than 50's in some regards
Man this soundtrack is terrifying to listen to as you enter necropolis and realize you were too late and now everyone is dead wiped out by the looming threat of the super mutant army and that this will be the fate of your vault if you don't stop it now

Funnily enough, you don't have to steal the water chip to beat the game. You just have to kill the Master and the Lieutenant and then the Overseer congratulates you despite the fact that you returned empty-handed except for a purple robe and an electronic lockpick.

It's fun and sad how many people know this track because of Nipton and not because of Necropolis, where it was first used. New Vegas is really good but also highly overrated.

Aurelius of Phoenix mmm I don’t know about that, people seemed well aware it was good as soon as it was released, I just think it was so obvious that it wasn’t mentioned much, but with the release of any new entry in a franchise new life is brought in, and there were many new fans with Fallout 4, so with all the attention and popularity that Fallout 4 was getting it became more prevalent to see people talking about how Beth’s Fallout knock offs are rubbish and NV was far better. I do think NV is a bit overrated however, it’s certainly no OG Fallout, and I think something like Van Buren would’ve been the ultimate Fallout, with NV the game felt like a real shadow of what it wanted to be, especially with the way the DLC was all intensely tied to the story, like they should’ve been in the base game. I mean Fallout 3 and 4 are simply first person shooters in a desert setting, nothing about them is Fallout other than their names, they have simple fun game play, and that’s it. It’s when people try to act like Beth’s Fallout titles are actually canon or relevant to Fallout that a problem occurs lol.
I always think it's funny that the ghouls think the Vault Dweller would be afraid of them, like the Vault Dweller has seen his fair share, and some ghouls won't scare him.

Funnily enough, you don't have to steal the water chip to beat the game. You just have to kill the Master and the Lieutenant and then the Overseer congratulates you despite the fact that you returned empty-handed except for a purple robe and an electronic lockpick.

Good ol' Necropolis filled to the brim with ghouls.
It's fun and sad how many people know this track because of Nipton and not because of Necropolis, where it was first used.
New Vegas is really good but also highly overrated.

How can New Vegas be called "highly overrated" when pretty much 90% of the players realized it was actually good only after Fallout 4's release is beyond me
Aurelius of Phoenix mmm I don’t know about that, people seemed well aware it was good as soon as it was released, I just think it was so obvious that it wasn’t mentioned much, but with the release of any new entry in a franchise new life is brought in, and there were many new fans with Fallout 4, so with all the attention and popularity that Fallout 4 was getting it became more prevalent to see people talking about how Beth’s Fallout knock offs are rubbish and NV was far better.
I do think NV is a bit overrated however, it’s certainly no OG Fallout, and I think something like Van Buren would’ve been the ultimate Fallout, with NV the game felt like a real shadow of what it wanted to be, especially with the way the DLC was all intensely tied to the story, like they should’ve been in the base game.
I mean Fallout 3 and 4 are simply first person shooters in a desert setting, nothing about them is Fallout other than their names, they have simple fun game play, and that’s it.
It’s when people try to act like Beth’s Fallout titles are actually canon or relevant to Fallout that a problem occurs lol.
I heard it here in F1 and just started NV a few days ago.

I always think it's funny that the ghouls think the Vault Dweller would be afraid of them, like the Vault Dweller has seen his fair share, and some ghouls won't scare him.
At that point the vault dweller probably encounter the deathclaw the hub was having problems with.
I mean... in the vault I assume you're not taught about ghouls. The vault dweller would be pretty freaked out by a bunch of decrepit rotting humans.
