Honestly looking back on it even if its because he wants to suck her blood, Edward being awkward around Bella is something i can completely relate to, anytime i got in a conversation with a girl in high school i was always relying on her to continue the conversation cause i didn't know how to conversate(being anti social can be a real bitch)
As I understood his awkwardness is because his social skills are non existing being reliant on mind reading, and he can't read her mind.
Edward should've just said yes when she asked if he got contacts

Bella in this movie is so expressionless on the face but full of expressions as a whole....If anyone really feels the acting is dumb, it's just because they haven't seen themselves in the similar phase of life during college days... The peculiarity of the movie is that the story is unrealistic for a normal person but the scenes are shot so realistically that you get engrossed in it....More than the beauty of the actors and actresses the background, the scenes, the dialogues and the contextual acting which makes it attractive for repetitive watching....

В мгновение ока откуда ни возьмись появилась такая малюсенькая машинка, что я даже модель не запомнила и как комикадзе бросилась прямо между нами, тем самым подставив под удар себя, и спасая мой бок. Автобус успел увильнуться, но тот ужас, память и благодарность преследуют меня и по сей день. До сих пор гадаю, кто сидел за рулём той малюсенькой авто и почему бросился так отважно меня спасать! ❤️
