After some trial and error, I have tested Focus Bracket app on my A7RII with moderate success. With my sigma EF85 1.4 ART, the lens must be set in AF-on while the camera, using a custom key, set in AF-off. When the app runs, it will override camera's AF-off condition, and activate incremental adjustment of the focus. Canon lens (EF 300 F4 L) with a metabone adapter has been tested, and required the same settings as the sigma lens to work properly. However, in some cases the incremental focus adjustment may not initiate.
How did you find this on the A7Rii ? I cannot find it. Is the icon the same as in this youtube video (Focus bracket)? I can only find an app that is bracketing pro, however that only allows for 3 pictures.
Sorry, I flunked Chinese algebra and Github did not have an app I could click on and just download. I'm not creating repositories or whatever the hell they're talking about. I'll just do it manually.
Installed ok with pmca-gui on A7R2, FW 4.01. Have you or anyone else tested with the Sony 90mm Macro? Haven't had time yet to do proper experiments myself, but first quick trials weren't quite there. But looks very priomising - I really want this to work. :)
Thank you for posting this. I can't get it to work on my RX10 iii. It takes the first shot then continuously hunts, unsuccessfully, for the next focus point. What mode should be selected? Could this be the problem? Thanks for your time.
Hmm, it’s been a long time since I last tested this app (and I’ve never tested on an RX10). I would use AF-S instead of AF-C for the focus mode. Good luck getting it to work!
HI Your Average Photographer very instructive video I like it I was trying to find focus Braket on my sony A7 and could not find the app is it possible to know the camera that you are using ? thanks
Use this to install instead, this is how I did it. ua-cam.com/video/eWRNgYRblmk/v-deo.html (It's on the list of 11 apps along with the OpenMemories Tweak)
I am sorry, but I am not a coder. I looked at the FocusBracket page and the OpenMemories page, and it is all Greek to me. I would love to try this out, but have not got a clue how to download, build, transfer etc. Could someone help me. Thanks
Use this video to install the Focus Bracket app. You'll find it on the list of 11 apps when you go through the steps. ua-cam.com/video/eWRNgYRblmk/v-deo.html
For some reason, I cannot find this particular app on my A7Rii. I found the bracketing pro, but the bracketing pro app only allows me to select 3 different auto focus points.
I cant find the focus stacking app that is like yours. I do have a focus stacking under the same app method, but it only takes 3 pictures within a focus stack. And I cannot detail the subject. I want the same app that you have. Any ideas?
Hi first thank foe the video. I have a few questions. 1. What app do you use it for stack all images? Field find focus? can't find it 2. There is an app on Sony store than do the same. Which one you prefers? Looking forward for your answer
I have been trying Focus Bracket for over a week now and it is a wonderful app. There is however an issue I do not understand or seem capable to resolve. When I choose the number of images it starts from three, sequentially up to 9 or so ant then it jumps to 12, or 15, or 19, and then up to twenty, thirty ot forty something. One example of my choices would be 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,17,34. Do you know why this is happening and how it can be solved?
Really pleased to find this app, having used the focus-stacking option on a Fuji XT-2. Followed the instructions, it confirmed that the camera (A7R2) was in app install mode and then confirmed 100% downloaded. I cannot find it in the camera menus or app list. Any suggestions?
Hello, i am wondering if it is possible to combine focus bracketing done with this app with timelapse pictures collected with external intervalometer? Have You tried such variant?
Useful app -- but as far as my experience goes, only under controlled conditions. With my A7ii and 16-35 or 24-70, it works well but very (and I mean very!) slowly. Not practicable for landscape -- the weather might almost change by the time the sequence of shots finishes -- about 7 seconds between shots.
From what I've read this just spits out individual files so megapixels is the same but from post processing on pc. I read a forum post saying it works on 4.0 so no reason to assume it doesn't work on 4.1
First things first: thanks for putting me on the track of this free app. It works fine wirh my EF 100mm usm macro on A7Rii plus Metabones IV, but I'm at a loss on how to set minimum and maximum focus. Minimum I can set using DMF, but with maximum setting it automatically falls back to manual mode - without mf assist? And does it work in any way with old non-usm EF motors, like the one in the 35mm f2? Would love some info from someone who has played a bit more with it!
As far as anyone has tested to this point, it isn't possible with the new cameras. I'll be getting an A7 III in a few weeks, and I'll do some testing of my own to see if there is any way to get apps on the camera.
Good video, but I don't understand... for what is that option? If you have time for taking e.g. 10 pics, why don't you use high F stop and long time and get better results almost instant without apps?
One example I can think of is if you are shooting a landscape in lowlight and want everything in frame to be sharp. Another example (as I showed in the video) is macro photography. Even with a stopped down aperture, depth of field is usually deeper than you want it to be because your lens is so close to the subject.
Because not every F stop is your lenses sweet spot. Set your right sweet spot (the F stop in which your lens is the sharpest) and take a series of photos and merge them will give you the highest quality of image.
Sorry, but I don't think the OpenMemories framework or any of the apps that use it can be installed on A77 cameras. You can try following the instructions here to see if it is possible: sony-pmca.appspot.com/

@@JJ-vp3bd This still works, but it only works for Sony 1st and 2nd gen cameras. The A7R3 does not have the same operating system and doesn't let you install 3rd party apps like this.

Sadly, there is no way that I know of to do focus bracketing with the a6400. The a6400 is built on a newer OS that doesn't allow you to install third-party apps.
There is a device called Wemacro. It's basically a camera mount on a ball screw with about a 200mm travel. This moves the camera AND lens at the same time., so there is no issue with focus breathing which occurs in most lenses when the focus is changed. The lens is focused manually on the closet part of the subject at the lens' sweet spot/f-stop(prob about f11). Every 1mm (or whatever the step size is selected) the wemacro triggers the camera via Bluetooth. That's hardware, but now there are several cameras that have "focus bracketing" in the camera firmware. This will work up to a point when focus breathing of the lens becomes an issue. Olympus, Panasonic, Fuji, and Nikon. have it. Why Sony is the holdout don't know! The Nikon Z6 is the most expensive. Note that focus breathing only becomes detrimental when doing macro photos. My Sony SEL90M28G 90mm macro G lens does focus breath at macro range 8 inches form subject! Lastly, I have the a6400, and I have a Canon FD bellows with a Nikon 50mm el Nikkor "n" enlarger lens and adapters to make it work; all manual for extreme macro. Have done macro focus stacking manually using a slide rail, but requires a VERY good rail. A good iShoot Arca-swiss $80 rail will work (what I used). No need to spend $300 for a rail (that probably wobbles), but a Swebo Arca-swiss at $190 looks very good.
