Before I start my actual warm-up on the instrument, I do a physical warm-up to get my body and muscles moving and relaxed. This includes neck and shoulder rotations, exercises to strengthen the wrist and thumb of my left hand, plus exercises with putty for grip and finger strength of my left hand. I've had a problem with my left hand thumb, and now that I no longer have this issue, I still do all these physical warm-ups to get my mind and body ready to play. THEN I start warming up on the bass.
Hello, I'm a professional orchestra musician from Germany. First of all thank you for spreading knowledge about this beautiful groovy instrument. I would like to ask you, if you could do one very very basic video about holding of a French bow (I have never had an occasion to do that, as the German bow is naturally always required and I'm extremely interested in learning that), also I would like to get to know, how do you sit or stand by the bass as a soloist and orchestra player, like how do you measure how high the bass should be comparing to the body, how changes the position of bass after switching to 5string and orchestral stool.. I suppose it can differ depending on the continent :) I would really appreciate that!

Lauren was using drone notes from her electronic tuner in this video, but there are lots of ways you can get free ones. There will very likely be a free app and there are also ones on UA-cam. I hope that helps and good luck with your playing :-)

Hi Lauren and congratulations for your lessons, I usually break my pratice sessions during my day for example morming 1h , midday 2h and after dinner 1 or 2 hours.In your opinion should I warm up in every practice session or only at the beginning of the day(morning)?
Hello! So the other day during my lesson, my teacher and I switched bows for a minute (his obviously being way nicer than mine). I was blown away by how different my bass sounded. It took my cheap plywood bass to a whole new level and it got me wondering. Now that I’m in the market for a new bass and bow, for the budget conscious bassist, would getting a standard whatever bass with an extremely nice bow be a better option that spending all the money on some fancy bass and then getting a crappy bow? Thanks!
Upgrade your bass to a fully carved one that you really like that fits your budget and likewise with the bow. You don't need to upgrade everything up to the most expensive bass & bow on the market. You can get a really nice instrument & bow that suits your playing ability now and upgrade again as your skill level increases. Fyi, a good bass & bow will appreciate in value. Your plywood bass & cheap bow might only get you one or two thousand to go toward an upgrade. When you have say a $5k bass and a $300 bow (arbitrary numbers), it would make sense to put that toward a $10k and $1500 bow (that $5k bass might be worth another $1-2k in several years) and so on. Does that make sense? Anyway, good luck.

Edgar Meyer plays with a $100 bow and a VERY expensive bass. The hair makes a big difference to tone as well
