Just bought one from Home Depot yesterday exactly like the one you have. Your video is very helpful, making it easy for me to assemble the umbrella. I know you posted it sometime ago but it is still helping others like me to this day. Thank you for sharing it.
Hi Nes, that's great!! I figured this Umbrella would be around for a while. I still have mine and it works great. I do take it down in the winter and keep the batteries charged with the solar panel in my garage window all winter. Thanks for taking the time to share your story, without your feedback I would never know if the video is still useful, cheers 🍺
Thanks man put this together for my Great Auntie today. I never opened up the instructions I watched you video..
🤣 That's awesome jmass89ify 🤣
Thanks. Very helpful understanding assembly. Nice product and the 11' cover works well here in the Highlands. One comment. If you're planning to move this umbrella you need a add a platform below the rails to contain the Sand Bags. No platform, no sand bag because they lay directly on the slab below and won't take any movement. I used pressure treated 1/2" plywood screwed to the bottom of the rails before inserting sand bags. Slide it where you want it with no damage done. Thanks again.
Awesome tip Don, thanks for sharing 🍺
This was helpful in making the install smoother. thanks. I had initially purchased the IN-STORE 11ft they carry, which is on SALE now for 299. But I wanted the sunbrella model, as I know it lasts longer in the heat. Couple differences are...The Sunbrella model you order online Home Depot site, has the lights sticking out, like in this video. And they include 4 spare bulbs. The In Store model has the lights flush and integrated in the channels of the umbrella. It looks more sleek, but maybe less rigid? Maybe insignificant. One thing I can see over time is one of those LED bulbs getting knocked off at some point. I hope not. I also noticed the Solar panel is smaller, but also differnt looking and likely behind longer wearing glass on the Sunbrella model. I can see the InStore panel needing replacement. Also the 3 AA batteries in the Sunbrella model are 1600mAh vs 1200mAh.
But that is KEY, what you said. Store the umbrella portion indoors in winter times. So vs the 299 sale price, the online model is on sale for $384. which was 2 days shipping.
Hey Phil, great info, thanks for taking the time to share, the differences could add years of life to this umbrella.
@@EddieCarrara1 You're welcome. Funny thing after a week of buying the Sunbrella... HD put the Sunbrella model on sale for another $60off. Since I had just purchased it...Via chat, online they refunded me the difference/$60. which works out rather great.
Thank you for this great video Eddy🙏🙏
You're welcome Ted, enjoy your summer, cheers 🍻
After you on one of these umbrellas for a while the canvas will shrink not allowing it to be cranked up to its full height. The solution to this problem as to hacksaw 1 inch of metal off each rod. Be careful of the wiring where the switch is located. A lot of people break their crank which is unfortunate, when that is not the problem.
Thank you for the video. Can you rotate the umbrella slightly ( 10 to 15 degrees ) or does it have to be 180 or 360.
Hi Denise, yes it can be rotated in any direction and you can also tilt it. Let me know if you have more questions.
thanks
No problem Mike :)
Do you think the Catilever Umbrella is better do to the fact of how you can angle them vertically and really block the sun at a lower angle besides the Hampton bay where if the sun has to be above you to block it? I just set up this model Hampton bay and my neighbor has a Catilever and he gets better shade, now I'm really feeling like returning this model not only because I spent $399 on this and his was $179 but also because of the shade. I would like your opinion, thank you
Hey Eddie! Our string broke and I am wondering if you think it is possible to just buy another umbrella with that cross base to fit into the stand. TYIA
Hi Tori, it's worthing looking for one, a lot of umbrellas made today are very similar so you might get lucky. Let me know how you make out 😊
*Read this comment if you plan to purchase this umbrella:*
Buy some kernmantle cord (also known as paracord/550 cord) at the same time you purchase this umbrella. During the installation of your umbrella--which is by the way very easy--replace the Hampton Bay center rope shit that comes built-in to the umbrella with the paracord.
You won't know to come back in 6 months - 1 year to thank me because your new cord won't fray and snap like almost everyone else's, and that's the point of this post.
Cheers!
This is really great information TFN and I really appreciate you taking the time to post it here. I haven't had any issues with mine yet, but I have read other people post the same issue. When I run into this issue I'll make a video to help folks out 👍
How do you replace the center rope? I just bought this umbrella and figured why not just change it now as you stated. Thanks.
@@dieselslick34 It's been quite some time since mine snapped and I replaced it, but I recall watching a couple of "restring cantilever" videos on different umbrellas and I just worked off of those. I could not find a video specific to the Hampton Bay but it's possible one exists now as I restrung mine a few years ago.
Excellent video. Just bought an umbrella exactly like his. Struggling to find sandbags like you had in your video. Where can you buy them? Can you include a,link for them. Thanks again.
Hi John, mine came with sand bags but here is a link to what you need amzn.to/3M9bDje
One question...what is the function of the solar component?
Hi Kim. The solar panel is for the led lights built into the umbrella. I didn’t show the lights because there is no assembly required and some models don’t have any 😊
@@EddieCarrara1 Thanks!
You're welcome Kim :)
Mr. Carrara, my son bought me the Hampton Bay Cantilever umbrella (11 feet)last summer 2020. It looks just like the one you show in the video. I live by myself in a condo and used the umbrella only once because I have arthritis in my hands and it was very hard to opened it. Do you have any suggestions to ease/make easier opening the umbrella? I can crank it but the rest of the process is very hard for me. I will appreciate any suggestions.
Hi Ana, it does weigh a lot and it takes a bit of strength to maneuver it. You could try using some car wax on the post that slides horizontally, it may make it easier to slide, also try using a hand on either side of the horizontal post when sliding it to relieve pressure in the coupler. Let me know if this helps
Hi. Do you have a locking mechanism on the top of your umbrella or does it just swing around in the wind? Thx
Hi Socalsilver, The pole locks is several places and there is a velcro tie to attach it to the pole so that the umbrella doesn't spin. Hope this helps 😊
How is it holding up a year later? Pros/Cons, if you had to do it over would you buy again?
Hi Jolzew, Still holding up good and yes I would buy it again. Keep in mind that I take care of the Umbrella, I take it down in high winds or anytime I'm not using it. I also store it inside during the winter and everything still works like new, even the solar lights 👍
Eddie Carrara great to hear and thank you so much for responding. I’m picking mine up tomorrow from Home Depot and will treat it the same. Is it a pain to move around once the sand bag is filled? Seems like it would have made more sense if they made the base in a way you could just put the unopened bags in so if you need to move you could just easily take out four individual bags than trying to move one 200lb bag.
@@BagsEsquire It has two bags but it's still a pain to move. I have never tried to move mine, I knew exactly where I wanted it and it covers my deck where I need it because the umbrella spins at the base 360*
How can i keep the umbrella from rotating ? I feel like i locked it in place but its still rotating?
Hi Michelle, is the pole rotating or just the umbrella? There is a strap on the umbrella that attaches to the pole to stop any unwanted movement of the umbrella.
Hi eddie! We couldnt move the lock and unlock knob on the long bent tube. Did you have any issues with that?
Hi Mickey, no, but you may want to move the tube back and forth because maybe it's binding internally against the pin. Let me know if this helps.
@@EddieCarrara1 we had to pick apart the knob part. It was totally stuck. We were able to loosen it up so working perfectly now. Thank you
@@mickeyplayzz5439 how did you do that?
@@naomipatch2582 my husband used a screw driver to open up the knob. Doing that loosen the parts and the problem was solved.
How has it held up since your purchase?
Hi Frank, no problems yet, the lights still work too.
We have had ours for approx 6 years no problem other than the metal cross bars rusted out, now on to finding those replacement parts.
Instead of putting the sand in the containers that are provided, can we just buy 4 50lb sand bags and put those underneath the base?
Hi Sime, Yes but I don't know how long the plastic bags that the sand comes in will last. The bags provided are heavy duty.
Is this a tilting umbrella or is there only one setting?
Yes it tilts and spins 360* to cover the sunny parts of the deck.
How do you remove the umbrella arm from the base to store for winter?
Hi Mari, you just slide the vertical pole out of the base pole, the base and short pole will all that is left to sit out in the weather. Let me know if this helps.
@@EddieCarrara1 I was trying to removing the pole from the base pole but it would do lift out, I finally sprayed WD40 on it and let it sit, then I could lift the pole out, it must have gotten wedged or began to rust inside of the pole, thank you for your response. Mari
@@maricody4457 You're welcome :)
how do you get the umbrella out to store it?
Hi Cindy, I just pull back the pin to rotate the umbrella in the pole and lift it straight out, the base will stay out in the elements. You may need two people to do it if you don't have the strength.
My umbrella keeps spinning around. How do I stop that?
Hi Supreme Ali, You have velcro straps to strap it to the pole and or your pin in the center pole is not inserted into the stop hole. Let me know what you find, thanks.
What are the dimensions of the base?
Hi Joe, 36'' x 36''
Hi - My umbrella only locks into 2 positions180 & 360 is this normal? or is the umbrella designed to lock in more positions? if I am not in either of these 2 positions my umbrella will blow around during windy days.
mine too!
Hi Jay, I just checked mine and it has 8 holes/positions.
Hi Eddie, do you know if the base for the 11' (Large) is the same size or smaller than the base for the 15ft (X Large4?)
Hi Mark, I’m not sure, but it makes sense that it would be a larger bass on the extra large.
How do you close it?
Hi Gostfalcon, you just use the crank on the umbrella stock.
Is this the Top Rated
Home Decorators Collection
11 ft. LED Round Offset Outdoor Patio Umbrella in Sunbrella Sand?
Yes Shane it is.
I odered a out side cover for it. And i can not get it to fight right at the top of unbrella and you show me a vidio
Hi Connie, I don't have the outside cover otherwise I would help you out.
Got 1 recently and the LED stopped working after 1 day ?
Same thing happened to me. It turned out that the wire leading from the solar panel to the umbrella just needed to be pushed all the way in. The plug looks like a little headphone jack and it's is on the solar panel. I hope yours is an easy fix like mine was.
If it's plugged in and the connections look good maybe you could try new rechargeable batteries? I know that sucks with a new unit, or maybe you could contact the manufacturer and they can send you a new battery pack? It's worth a shot.
Thanks for the feedback Frederick 🍻
So I have the same umbrella and I cannot for the life of me get the locking knob to lock in at any spot except for the middle. I know there are several holes that is supposed to allow for locking at different degrees but the knob never auto locks in. I’ve tried rotating the umbrella in the desired spots (per manual) and it just doesn’t want to go in. Did you have the same issue?
Hi Logan, no mine locks in about 6 different spots. I recommend marking the inner poll at the top of the outer pole then pull the inner pole out and measure where the holes sit compared to the lock pin. Let me know if this helps or confuses you lol.
@@EddieCarrara1 no I totally get what you are saying. What I don’t understand is why it locks in the middle which tells me it’s setting in the outer pole correctly. It’s so bizarre.
@@loganhall1412 So check the lock pin and make sure you have it in the lock position. If you spin the lock pin 180 deg it will be in the unlock position.
@@EddieCarrara1 right so if the umbrella is centered I can lock the turn knob. Now if I go 180 degrees to the right it unlocks and I can swing the umbrella left or right but as I’m moving it and I turn the knob another 180 degrees, it never locks. Like I’ll keep it in the lock position as I’m turning it and it just never automatically pops in. It only pops in when I center it again. It’s so bizarre.
@@loganhall1412 OK, so you've tried it both ways. That is very weird. Sorry I don't have a good answer for you lol.
I can’t get the pole to lock in place. It just spins 360 deg freely. Did you have any issues with this?
Hi ASpec818, there are two settings for the pin, do you have it on the right setting? I didn't have any issues. are the holes for the pint in the correct area, sis you install the pole correctly?
After one year of use the central string broke ....Replacing it now
Hi Terry, I would call or email the manufacturer and see if they will replace the umbrella?
How do you replace the central string?
Did that ever work? We're in same predicament.
@@toriking3861 Good question 🤔 Debating on buying this but now I'm not so sure.
Thank you for the video. I have a question: There is a spring type of ring inside the crank. It helps lock the umbrella in the open position when fully engaged. Do you know the name of that ring? I may have lost it and need it replaced. Thanks in advance.
Hi Fishbaja, I wish I did but I don't have a clue :(
