Hi Claire, the Irish often give different names to these tunes . The colliers reel sounds very similar to my love is in America, and Gormans reel seems to be a different tune to the Michael Coleman named tune, beg your pardon he calls it Lord Gordon's reel, and the bothy band call it something else of which I have played both tunes. Anyway brilliant playing , playing especially reels is very tricky on your own to keep bouncing rhythm that people want to dance. It all takes a lot of practice and session work.
My Love in American and Colliers are so incredibly similar, it's harder to find the differences sometimes...Both great tunes though. Lord Gordons is a whole different tune all together, I think Michael Coleman might be playing the 4 (5?) part reel version -- also played on Pat Mangan Album (ua-cam.com/video/nuScUc25lso/v-deo.html). The Bothy Band Version seems to be quite different as well! It's a Jig -- also found on these recordings as well: www.irishtune.info/tune/1278/
@@ClaireShireyMusic im not by any means a pro but My Love Is In America and The Colliers are similar but two totally seperate tunes. And Gormans the second tune seems to more recognised as Old Gormans reel and some recognise it as Sporting Nell
Lovely!
Hup mighty playing
