  • In the summer of 1863, Confederate General JEB Stuart was desperate to reunite with Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia during their invasion of Pennsylvania. To do so he'd need to fight his way through the city of Hanover. Joining me to discuss the Battle of Hanover are authors Eric Wittenberg and J.D. Petruzzi.

Quite the contrary, according to the actual record. Stuart attacked Kilpatrick's rear intentionally, to allow time for Early to march through en route to South Mountain per Lee's order. There are other matters your two guests are not correct on, and appear keen on perpetuating this myth that Lee was "blind without Stuart", and the like. Joe Ryan's recent video on the Battle of Hanover is on point with the actual record surrounding these events leading up to Gettysburg.

Mr Ryan is very good at explaining how and why things occured based up known facts and actions the characters took. Many of these conditions are dismissed or misrepresented based upon years of accepting a narrative portrayed within our time as the truth and shall not be challenged. I highly recommend if you seek alternatives or question in your head that something is missing, not quite right or just seek a counterpoint to these historical actions, there is no one finer than Joe Ryan to obtain it.

I can see where these two "historians" would lie, so as to paint the Union in a more positive light

You would need to check with local regulations and landowners. Many of these are not protected sites
