  • Massive oil deposits estimated at around 10 billion barrels have been discovered off the coast of Namibia, potentially increasing the country's total recoverable oil reserves to around 21 billion barrels, making it one of the largest reserves in Africa. The Orange Basin, within Namibia's Exclusive Economic Zone, has been a hub of exploration activity, with significant discoveries such as Graff-1, Jonker-1X, La Rona-1, Lesedi-1X, and Venus-1. Other basins like Lüderitz, Walvis, and Namibe also show promising potential due to their geological similarities. Companies like Galp, which holds an 80% stake in Petroleum Exploration Licence 83 in the Orange Basin, alongside Namcor and Custos, are at the forefront of these exploration efforts.
While these discoveries bring hope for economic benefits, including reduced unemployment and increased daily production predicted at 380,000 barrels by 2029, challenges remain. The infrastructure development necessary for extraction, transportation, and refining is still in the early exploration and appraisal phases, with no commercial production yet. Namibia's unique geography, characterized by its vast Namib Desert and low population density, presents both logistical challenges and opportunities to minimize environmental disruption. Balancing oil production with conservation of its desert and marine ecosystems will be crucial. Despite predictions of global oil demand peaking by 2033, analysts remain confident in the long-term value of Namibia's resources for both local and international markets.

I mean South Africa basically owns Namibia, all internet cables run through South Africa. The sheer amount of South African companies in Namibia. South Africa also sells power to Namibia. Not to mention, most people flying into Windhoek fly from Johannesburg. Namibia also buys allot of food from South Africa such as fruit, wheat, sugar and maize. I wouldn’t cut out the possibility of Namibia rejoining South Africa specially if SA stabilises, that also includes Lesotho and Swaziland. But only time can tell

Mohammed bin Salman (current crown prince of Saudi Arabia) told The Washington Post in April 2017 that without America's cultural influence on Saudi Arabia, "we would have ended up like North Korea." I'm sharing this because Namibia is still plagued with socialism and chinese influence hence why they have so much corruption and Botswana does not and is much much ahead when it comes to being a first world country 🙂

will the oil refineries be developed in Nambia or South Africa , I'm also aware that most times countries gain revenue through taxes on oil but is that really possible when shell is known for evading taxes ??

They,ve been discovering oil the last 40 years and to date not a single development took place and if ever any of these fields are developt,Namibia will not really benefit. These fields are in extreme deep water, and many many miles offshore, making any land based operation basically not financially viable. Time will tell.

@sibusisonkomo1543 Namibian Oil 🛢 and gas ⛽️offshore Reserves beats South Africa 🇿🇦 by a wide margin. 👌.
Nevertheless, it shouldn't be about who has the most but how we can make good use of every resource that lies beneath African Landmass and African Oceans.
It's time to avoid rushing into unbalanced deals with foreign owned companies.
They pretend to be commercial companies, but the truth is they are the shadows of their countries 🤔.
Africa 🌍 needs to collectively pull together and establish their own companies who will undertake mining activities, refineries, storage, and exporting the end products in order to achieve better value.

What a good hype story. Here is a country who's economy is at the end of its road and depression at record levels. It needed a some good news, low and behold...Face it, no money: no drilling rigs nor even storage or a depo. Not even a refinery..I'd put that at 30% overall projected. So you might know but will never in your lifetime see any benefit. There isnt a processing law helping with some of the profit. What a blunder..
