Thank you so much Peter. You creating this video is impacting me more than just transmission temperatures, it’s also helping my family and finances as well. Thank you so very much for taking the time to do this review, a huge thank you. God bless,
Good to get another point of reference about the ATF needing to be 85-95° Celsius. I thought I was getting bad info after realizing my 2016 Terrain 2.4 only idles at 63° Celsius. Well, I guess it's time to go on a little trip before doing an ATF flush! LOL
Hallo , i have a Chevy Equinox 2020, i´d like to know how to choose de correct (GM) transmition Fluid Temp (Method) on a app like u are using, for my transmition?
Hello Peter, I have done all steps you have showed on this video. I can't put oil temperature widged on live data display, what is the problem :) thank you
Thank you very much for the information. I just wanted to ask if you had any idea why I can't get a temperature reading for my transmission for my Landcruiser 200. I followed the steps you outlined but the reading remains blank.
Does it work for a 2015 VW Passat TDI 2.0L B7? I'm trying to change the DSG transmission fluid, I bought the car scan pro app but does not support that particular issue and I do not want to but torque if it does not support my issue.
I've been working on the same issue. Most generic OBD2 sensors will not pull this value in a Toyota by default. You will need a PID that is customized for your Toyota model, and an OBD2 app that will allow you to input a customized PID. Many people mention the Torque app, but recent reviews on the app are quite bad, so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to do with the current app. Though it is probably doable, I found the OBD2 route to be more trouble than it was worth, and plan to get the temperature a different way.
Hej! Great video! I have tried the procedure on my Chevy Captiva 2011 and I have the following issue: The Trasmission oil temperature never goes beyon 75-78 degrees. Even driving +50 Km the situation is still the same. I tried with two different ELM327 (one BT and one WIFI) and I get the same values...any hints on why this is happening?? Thanks
The tran in the 1.8 is from the same family so it should work. Getting OBD2 readings is really hit and miss. If you drive it for 20-30 minutes it should be up to full operating temp.
Hey peter, bought this device, cant seem to have all lights blinking only first 2 lights are on. Tried with bluetooth and wifi, cant seem to get any real time info on my holden cruze. Can u pls advice...getting an error warning ( can the adapter talk ok to the vehicle ecu - No )
once the ELM 327 is plugged in you should at least get the 3 lights from the left hand side lit - they are power and signal transmission to and from the vehicle. make sure the device is firmly plugged into the OBD port on the car and isn't loose. when connecting via bluetooth, can you "see" the device in your available devices to connect to? make sure bluetooth device discovery is "on" in your phone. you may have a faulty OBD device? mine communicates just fine with our Cruze. status lights are here: obd2-elm327.com/elm327-indicator-leds if you cannot get it working to read the transmission temperature the check level procedure is done with the transmission at operating temperature. in my experience the transmission gets to normal operating temperature after about 30 minutes of normal driving - it takes a lot longer than the engine takes to get there.
@@numbnutsAU yes, i could see the bluetooth option. However i messaged the guys on ebay they said try wifi only not bluetooth. I can see device on wifi, tried using static ip setting 192.168.0.5 , still coulr not connect. Did u use wifi or bluetooth, if wifi then did u use static ip address, thanks . Otherwise i will drive car for 30 mins before doing transm oil level check
How do you know that the temperature needed to be 90 degrees Celsius on your transmission. Where do I get that information for my Honda Civic 2014? I have the ODB-II from BlueDriver but can't find that widget for the transmission fluid temp. Also, how much pressure to apply placing back the bold when the car is hot?
The temperature needs to come up to operating temperature in accordance with the service manual for this transmission which I referred to in making the video. For your Honda try to find a good Civic forum. I don't have a Honda so I can't see where to find the widget for the trans temp. Someone on the forum should be able to help you out.
You should not consider 80 c to be the temperature for checking level on Hondas that use dw-1 or z-1 fluid. If you overfill, you risk ruining transmission. The temperature in hondas for level checking is 50 c to 60 c. 50 c is the recommended but at 60 c is you see the level is at high mark you are good. Don't fill it anymore. Those fluid expands a lot and at 80 you should see fluid at double the high level mark which is normal. Also make sure you are on level ground engine off and you cycled all the gears in automatic before turning off engine. Also you should not check after 2 minutes of car being off because the fluid in torque converter comes back to transmission case giving you incorrect reading.
If you reach more than 90c ever while driving. Replace your atf fluid 3 times in span of weeks. 90c is very dangerous for honda transmission. That is the same temperature you will see ecm turning on radiator fan constantly even if engine is not that hot. It is programmed in ecm to transfer heat into engine coolant at that temperature. If it is a used car and you have a lot of milage then you need to take a lot of precautions and better talk to a mechanic.
Hi Peter, do u know if this app will gonna be able to read the gearbox oil temperature on my 2008 Audi A6 c6 4f ? I'm asking because i couldn't find the Audi brand into the adding extra PID's sensors list , there's only "other" brand's if u don't find your brand into the list , so i was wondering if selecting "other" will include my car brand ? Is true that after selecting the "other" option the only sensor reading that comes up is the one who measure the oil temperature into the gearbox. What do u think? Thx !
Hi, I am not sure to be honest but I can't see why it would not be possible, I don't have an Audi to test if I can get it to work. The Torque app (paid version) appears to work with Audi/VW vehicles from what I can see on the internet. There should be some Audi forums on OBD scanning using the Torque app that will be able to help you.
I used another odb2 scanner and bought the app but when adding the transmission fluid temp sensor, it says No Data. Is that because my cause is a 2016 Cruze limited ? (Same style as the 2015) and doesn't have the sensor, or is it my odb2 device that doesnt support it
if your OBD2 device and torque app can pick up data from other sensors in the car then there should be nothing wrong with the reader or app. did you add the extra PID for the temp sensor? maybe try GM method 1 and/or 3 as well as 2 and see if any of those pick it up.
@@numbnutsAU I added the GM PID set and that showed 3 additional trans temp sensors. Two of them show no data and one of them has data but does not show anything other than "0" for the data. Even driving the vehicle for an hour, it received no additional data other than 0. Is there an extra PID I can add for trans temp? I tested the same scanner in my dodge and it showed the trans temp so I'm wondering if the scanner just isn't compatible with every sensor in the Chevy, or if this Chevy does not have a sensor for trans temp.
Which app did you use to get the transmission fluid temperature? I am also using the carista dongle but the carista app doesnt seem to have the transmission fluid temperature anywhere. Could you please post instructions on getting the temperature using app? TYIA
