- There is an abundant variety of life on earth, but how did it come about? Some say it is evolution and others say that is was by divine decree. What if both are true? Accepting the science of evolution does not mean you must accept that there is no purpose or meaning for humans. For Christians it means recognizing God as the source and creator of all life.

I may not be religious in any sense, but this is the exact content I love to see. So many people are turned away from Christianity because of some channels fervent hate, but channels like this that can explain modern concepts through the lens of faith are truly the future of religion as a whole. Truly amazing content y’all, keep it up!
Great video. Mutations are God's creativity. Selection is God's judgment. Deep time is God's patience.
Mutations are basically coping errors, like the ones that allow us to drink milk or allow bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics. I mention these because they are cited as the best examples of beneficial mutations, however, they work by destroying a mechanism in the organism. Keep doing this and you will destroy or kill the organism.

@@frosted1030 No like the astonishing diversity of lifeforms seen today and revealed in the fossil record. I was talking about "mutations" in regards to evolution. Last time I checked, cancer doesn't drive evolution forward.

I'm glad you found BioLogos. This foundation is great. I'm Catholic and I was raised with both science and faith. In a religious sense, science is a way of understanding how God works.
Lost world of Genesis 1 perfectly explains how to interpret genesis. The Geneological Adam and eve perfectly explains how we can have a historical Adam and eve that are ancestors of everyone alive by at least 1AD (spoiler alert, all you need is people outside the garden) and The Generations of the Heavens and the Earth takes the science laid out by The Geneological Adam and Eve and uses it to craft a beautiful biblical theological narrative that makes sense from beginning to end. These three books perfectly supported my personal transformation from a conspiratorial young earth creationist to an evolutionary creationist
The only way to reconcile evolution is to reject it completely. It's not true. Nothing about it is scientific. It's not observable. It flies in the face of scientific laws like the law of biogenesis. It's just completely ridiculous. I know too much about science to fall for evolution.

Very well explained! As a biologist and a believer of God, it helped me to appreciate more how "God" is the God of science and faith.
Biologos played a pivitol role in me not totally deconstructing my faith, thank God for the amazing work you all are doing in honoring intellectual and scientific honesty with the integrity of honoring our faith tradition.
Me too, they helped me realize that there shouldn't be a problem with science and faith. They helped me reconcile science with my faith, they enlightened me.
@MrFossil367ab45gfyth The issue isn't science and faith. It's faith vs faith. Which faith do you believe in more??? The issue is actually naturalism, which is a faith in itself vs God's word. God says he created everything in 6 days and even wrote it with his own finger on the tablet he gave to Moses. Everything I see in reality fits with what the Bible says. The only time issues ever arise are when naturalists try to push their beliefs based on atheism on us. It's not like they have any actual proof backing up their beliefs in naturalism. They just don't believe in God so therefore they have to come up with the best explanation for how everything got here naturally instead of supernaturally. The issue is that without supernaturalism being involved in the equation then everything had to create itself. God claims to be eternal having no beginning so that's not a problem for him. Why would God be bound by having to be created anyways? He wouldn't be much of a God if he did need to be created.

A beautiful video! Yes, I believe that God created life on Earth through the process of evolution. Evolution is a fact, the reason it is known as a "theory" isn't because it is just an idea, but in science a "theory" is away of explain or organizing vast sets of data and research. Science and religion are based on faith. Religious people have faith in God or gods "depending on what religion they follow" and their sacred texts and books. Scientists "religious or not" have faith in their research, data and work in the lab. Also, even if nothing in the world has a purpose that doesn't mean that God isn't real. God could've made the universe and the Earth and he just wanted to see what might come of it overtime. But overall, nicely done and God bless :)
All dogs today descended from two wolfs. So from them we have the vast array of dog species we see today. No dogs we have today could produce this amount of variety as the original two wolfs. The reason is they have lost too much genetic variability or information due to mutations and coping errors over generations, The same is true of every animal family on earth. That is how we got our verity adaptation.

Sounds like you need a lesson in taxonomy. Dogs were selectively bred by humans for specific traits (artificial selection).

What I don’t understand is that , if mutations were directed by god , then why there is a natural selection . I mean why the mutation that won’t be selected happened in the first place
Natural selection is part of evolution and how it works. Natural selection can be the method God used too inorder yo bring life about.

This video is sublime! But it does leave on question on the table... How exactly did sin entered the world?
A 2 min vid can’t cover everything. Sin means missing the mark. That chaos is part of creation, (creation is good not perfect) that why it’s human nature to sin. Following God daily is how we rise above our sin nature. Humans being able to do this might be the reason we are given the status of being made in God image ( Image bearer See Dr Michael Heiser ). And salvation is vis Jesus only.
Just a quick thought for you, I’m open to being wrong of course. Good luck on your journey.
The Bible tells us that our sin comes from our flesh (our bodies). The science of evolution tells us that our bodies inherited strong survival instincts from evolution. When we opened our eyes in the garden we were no longer able to act blindly on those instincts as animals do. Now we are responsible for our actions, and not only that but we have the imagination to act out on those desires in horrible ways. When we opened our eyes in the garden, we became fully self aware as an individual. Sin is indulging the irrational desires of that individual awareness, which is why it separates us from connection with God and nature.

I don't see how evolution can be true for one reason; there was no death in the world before the fall. For evolution to be true, creatures of all types would have had to die over and over and over to evolve.

An argument for the existence of God...
If God created everything, where did God come from or who created God?
This question is where logic stops being useful, for it attempts to understand infinity and limit and it just bounces between these two concepts as it rejects one and seems to only have the other as the only answer and they both do not seem to make sense. Let's try it:
Take any theory that attempts to tackle the where did it all start at, you have our present, you have the past all the way up to but excluding the beginning point and then the beginning point. All the theories that attempt to explain it all start with some basic point who is not a super natural ineligient designer. So, where did that basic point come from? Who made that basic point? How do we account for the obvious intelligent design that is evident everywhere? Let's try God as that beginning point vs all other possible theories that attempt to explain it all:
God created everything (the beginning point is a super natural intelligent designer who we do not completely understand ) we can ask who made him, to which the only answer is infinite regression, our mind rejects it, and sends us to limit (God as that limit; that beginning point), our mind bugs us again... but where did God come from? So, with God as the beginning point i have a limit that i do not understand how it came to be, but it answers who the designer is. With every other possible theory that does not have a supernatural intelligent designer as its beginning point we have a basic beginning point and design by chance/accident. Did a building just came to be, no designer? How about the car you drive, it just happened by chance? No designer?The various systems in the human body, no designer?
Evolutionary creation is half Christian
God reveals Himself through His Word. And adding even one more hour to the six days of creation inspires a form of evolution and deception, contradicting the Biblical genealogy and prophecies of God's word.
What if God, in eternity past, conceived the cosmos fully complete, in a form that is billions of years old? Then when he spoke each day into existence, everything He made, formed and created proceeded forward, including light in real time. That would satisfy the six days of creation and not contradict Biblical genealogies and prophecies of God's word.
Can this be proven scientifically? Perhaps some evidence does exist. In a recent discovery within the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation, the Planck data confirms what the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe data reveals, that our Earth and solar system may be cosmically aligned. And according to cosmologists, one thing is evident, the alignments with our Earth and solar system somehow exist! Moreover, because these features do not fit the Standard Model of Cosmology, scientists dubbed it the Axis of Evil because it can destroy everything in their Big Bang hypothesis. However, instead of an Axis of Evil. Could these alignments show an actual Axis of Beginning of a completely new cosmological theory, conceivably, leading to our Creator guiding the exploration?

The Earth is where the Biblical story begins. Our Salvation is what His story is about, and Jesus, the Word of God, is the story's hero.
This video only makes sense if the god you are referring to is a god other that that of Christianity or Judaism. Why would God crate one way and then tell his prophets he did it another way? After all one is as easily understood as the other.
The creation account in the Bible is the most accurate creation account from the ancient religions. The account started with nothing and then was made into something from nothing by God who is eternal. In most religions the gods would make the world out of already existing elements. The creation account in the Bible in genesis was never meant to be taken literally. People fail to understand that the Bible was made over a thousand years ago in a different culture with people having little to no understanding of science and the world around them. They did the best with what they could understand based on what God was revealing to them. I believe that the Bible is Gods word but I believe that the Bible is taken waaaaay to literally in certain places and people nit pick on irrelevant things versus trying to understand what the story is trying to say. The creation account in genesis is the biggest one. God revealed himself in the Bible through the lenses and writings of ancient people are the time and for how old and culturally influenced that book is. I think it does a pretty dang good job of accounting the existence of life and morality even over a thousand years later. I believe in God and theistic evolution because I don’t pretend to try to put God in a box the way most Christian’s do. If I could figure God out he wouldn’t be God but i by far see more evidence for a creator within science than I do the absence of a creator. Even within evolution

Discredit all of biology. When you are done, there are plenty of other entire fields of science you will be required to discredit (as they independently validate biological evolution).

What makes you think one of the most well understood facts in science can be disregarded for third hand translated iron age fables? @@frosted1030 If you really new your facts you would know that primitive bronze age Hindu, Egyptian and Greek people believed in evolution and Egyptians believed that life started from slim in the Nile. Darwin stole this idea for his Primordial Soup. You make the logical fallacy of appealing to authority but I have read many scientist who do not hold your view the majority do and here is the reason "Evolution is unproved and unprovable. We believe it only because the only alternative is special creation, and that is unthinkable” 4 (Sir Arthur Keith)."
The diagrams are the of the same ilk as that one which shows the "evolutionary" progression from chimp-like thing to man - it's all an illusion. Take for instance the diagram at 1:10 - there's supposedly a single strand running from the bottom that gives rise to and ties together all the different forms of life. In reality what we find is a huge number of individual bushes on a vast plain of life. Evolutionists have formed a great hypothesis that supposedly ties the bushes together - but they have to use imaginary, unlocatable ancestors to do so - the "ghosts" of evolution.
Evolution requires vast eons of time to create biological lifeforms as we see on earth today. In the bible God says He created everything in six normal, human understandable days and then He rested from His creative work. So for Biologos and any other institute to make this highly dubious claim that God used evolution is to make God into a liar. Exodus 20:8-11 affirms what is so clearly stated in Genesis 1. Six days. No place for evolution, none, nada, zip. If you believe in evolution then you might as well not believe in God, Jesus and salvation from sin - why? Simply because you will be bringing into life a new theology founded on the atheistic worldview that everything made itself.
Do you know that Biologos has no explanation for how life started on earth? They cannot claim God did it because they have to adhere to the atheistic worldview of the Big Bang in which there is no god visible. Anything like unto a god is anathema.
If you've just become a Christian and still have vestiges of the evolutionary tale in your system, then please, do yourself a big favour and bow to the authority of the Word of God.
Six days was all it took. He said it, that settles it. Who is your authority? That is what it all boils down to. God or man?
EDIT: I find it so ironic that Evolutionism is describes as applying evolution in areas where it doesn't belong - which is exactly what Biologos is doing - applying evolution to the bible!
Saying that God works thru the evolutionary processes he supposedly designed is just plain *_WRONG!_* The bible makes that crystal clear. God did *_NOT_* use the atheistic, godless process to create His kingdom. Full stop!
